About
Gurdwara Manikaran Sahib in the Kullu district is one of the most revered Sikh pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas, situated at 1,756 meters in the Parvati Valley amid naturally heated hot springs. The gurdwara commemorates Guru Nanak Dev Ji's visit during his third Udasi in the early 16th century, when he reportedly caused a hot spring to emerge by having Bhai Mardana lift a stone, providing miraculous natural heat to cook langar for the sangat. The springs, reaching temperatures of 64-80 degrees Celsius, are still used to cook food for the daily langar, and pilgrims bathe in the waters believed to have healing properties for arthritis.
