ਅਟਲ ਅਖਇਓ ਦੇਵਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
aTal akhio dhevaa mohan alakh apaaraa ||
You are eternal and unchanging, imperishable, invisible and infinite, O divine fascinating Lord.
ਦਾਨੁ ਪਾਵਉ ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੇਨੁ ਦਾਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੨੨॥
dhaan paavau sa(n)taa sa(n)g naanak ren dhaasaaraa ||4||6||22||
Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Society of the Saints, and the dust of the feet of Your slaves. ||4||6||22||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
maaroo mahalaa panjavaa ||
Maaroo, Fifth Mehla:
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਆਘਾਏ ਸੰਤਾ ॥
tirapat aaghaae sa(n)taa ||
The Saints are fulfilled and satisfied;
ਗੁਰ ਜਾਨੇ ਜਿਨ ਮੰਤਾ ॥
gur jaane jin ma(n)taa ||
they know the Guru's Mantra and the Teachings.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
taa kee kichh kahan na jaiee ||
They cannot even be described;
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥
jaa kau naam baddaiee ||1||
they are blessed with the glorious greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
laal amolaa laalo ||
My Beloved is a priceless jewel.
ਅਗਹ ਅਤੋਲਾ ਨਾਮੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ageh atolaa naamo ||1|| rahaau ||
His Name is unattainable and immeasurable. ||1||Pause||
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮਾਨੋ ॥
avigat siau maaniaa maano ||
One whose mind is satisfied believing in the imperishable Lord God,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੋ ॥
gurmukh tat giaano ||
becomes Gurmukh and attains the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਪੇਖਤ ਸਗਲ ਧਿਆਨੋ ॥
pekhat sagal dhiaano ||
He sees all in his meditation.
ਤਜਿਓ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੋ ॥੨॥
tajio man te abhimaano ||2||
He banishes egotistical pride from his mind. ||2||
ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਠਾਣਾ ॥
nihachal tin kaa Thaanaa ||
Permanent is the place of those
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥
gur te mahal pachhaanaa ||
who, through the Guru, realize the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
anadhin gur mil jaage ||
Meeting the Guru, they remain awake and aware night and day;
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੩॥
har kee sevaa laage ||3||
they are committed to the Lord's service. ||3||
ਪੂਰਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
pooran tirapat aghaae ||
They are perfectly fulfilled and satisfied,
ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
sahaj samaadh subhaae ||
intuitively absorbed in Samaadhi.
ਹਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
har bha(n)ddaar haath aaiaa ||
The Lord's treasure comes into their hands;
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੩॥
naanak gur te paiaa ||4||7||23||
O Nanak, through the Guru, they attain it. ||4||7||23||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੬ ਦੁਪਦੇ

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਛੋਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
chhodd sagal siaanapaa mil saadh tiaag gumaan ||
Abandon all your clever tricks; meet with the Holy, and renounce your egotistical pride.
ਅਵਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਵਖਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
avar sabh kichh mithiaa rasanaa raam raam vakhaan ||1||
Everything else is false; with your tongue, chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਰਨ ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
mere man karan sun har naam ||
O my mind, with your ears, listen to the Name of the Lord.
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਅਘ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਵਨੁ ਬਪੁਰੋ ਜਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
miTeh agh tere janam janam ke kavan bapuro jaam ||1|| rahaau ||
The sins of your many past lifetimes shall be washed away; then, what can the wretched Messenger of Death do to you? ||1||Pause||
ਦੂਖ ਦੀਨ ਨ ਭਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
dhookh dheen na bhau biaapai milai sukh bisraam ||
Pain, poverty and fear shall not afflict you, and you shall find peace and pleasure.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਖਾਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੪॥
gur prasaadh naanak bakhaanai har bhajan tat giaan ||2||1||24||
By Guru's Grace, Nanak speaks; meditation on the Lord is the essence of spiritual wisdom. ||2||1||24||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maaroo, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਹੋਤ ਦੇਖੇ ਖੇਹ ॥
jinee naam visaariaa se hot dhekhe kheh ||
Those who have forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord - I have seen them reduced to dust.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਤੂਟਤੇ ਏ ਨੇਹ ॥੧॥
putr mitr bilaas banitaa tooTate e neh ||1||
The love of children and friends, and the pleasures of married life are torn apart. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹ ॥
mere man naam nit nit leh ||
O my mind, continually, continuously chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਲਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੂਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jalat naahee agan saagar sookh man tan dheh ||1|| rahaau ||
You shall not burn in the ocean of fire, and your mind and body shall be blessed with peace. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਰਖ ਛਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਪਵਨ ਝੂਲਤ ਮੇਹ ॥
birakh chhaiaa jaise binasat pavan jhoolat meh ||
Like the shade of a tree, these things shall pass away, like the clouds blown away by the wind.
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਆਵਤ ਏਹ ॥੨॥੨॥੨੫॥
har bhagat dhiraR mil saadh naanak terai kaam aavat eh ||2||2||25||
Meeting with the Holy, devotional worship to the Lord is implanted within; O Nanak, only this shall work for you. ||2||2||25||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maaroo, Fifth Mehla:
ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖਹ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਤੋ ਨੀਤ ॥
purakh pooran sukheh dhaataa sa(n)g basato neet ||
The perfect, primal Lord is the Giver of peace; He is always with you.
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਉਸਨ ਨ ਸੀਤ ॥੧॥
marai na aavai na jai binasai biaapat usan na seet ||1||
He does not die, and he does not come or go in reincarnation. He does not perish, and He is not affected by heat or cold. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
mere man naam siau kar preet ||
O my mind, be in love with the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਚੇਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਏਹ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chet man meh har har nidhaanaa eh niramal reet ||1|| rahaau ||
Within the mind, think of the Lord, Har, Har, the treasure. This is the purest way of life. ||1||Pause||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੀਧਿ ॥
kirapaal dhiaal gopaal gobidh jo japai tis seedh ||
Whoever meditates on the merciful compassionate Lord, the Lord of the Universe, is successful.
ਨਵਲ ਨਵਤਨ ਚਤੁਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੀਧਿ ॥੨॥੩॥੨੬॥
naval navatan chatur su(n)dhar man naanak tis sa(n)g beedh ||2||3||26||
He is always new, fresh and young, clever and beautiful; Nanak's mind is pierced through with His Love. ||2||3||26||

ਚਲਤ ਬੈਸਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ॥
chalat baisat sovat jaagat gur ma(n)tr ridhai chitaar ||
While walking and sitting, sleeping and waking, contemplate within your heart the GurMantra.
ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਭਜੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
charan saran bhaj sa(n)g saadhoo bhav saagar utareh paar ||1||
Run to the Lord's lotus feet, and join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and reach the other side. ||1||
