Ang 1046 of 1,430

ਏਕੋ ਅਮਰੁ ਏਕਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

eko amar ekaa patisaahee jug jug sir kaar banaiee he ||1||

There is only One Command, and there is only One Supreme King. In each and every age, He links each to their tasks. ||1||

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥

so jan niramal jin aap pachhaataa ||

That humble being is immaculate, who knows his own self.

ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

aape aai miliaa sukhadhaataa ||

The Lord, the Giver of peace, Himself comes and meets him.

ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

rasanaa sabadh ratee gun gaavai dhar saachai pat paiee he ||2||

His tongue is imbued with the Shabad, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

gurmukh naam milai vaddiaaiee ||

The Gurmukh is blessed with the glorious greatness of the Naam.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

manmukh ni(n)dhak pat gavaiee ||

The self-willed manmukh, the slanderer, loses his honor.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

naam rate param ha(n)s bairaagee nij ghar taaRee laiee he ||3||

Attuned to the Naam, the supreme soul-swans remain detached; in the home of the self, they remain absorbed in deep meditative trance. ||3||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

sabadh marai soiee jan pooraa ||

That humble being who dies in the Shabad is perfect.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸੂਰਾ ॥

satigur aakh sunaae sooraa ||

The brave, heroic True Guru chants and proclaims this.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

kaiaa a(n)dhar a(n)mirat sar saachaa man peevai bhai subhaiee he ||4||

Deep within the body is the true pool of Ambrosial Nectar; the mind drinks it in with loving devotion. ||4||

ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ ॥

paR pa(n)ddit avaraa samajhaae ||

The Pandit, the religious scholar, reads and instructs others,

ਘਰ ਜਲਤੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

ghar jalate kee khabar na paae ||

but he does not realize that his own home is on fire.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

bin satigur seve naam na paieeaai paR thaake saa(n)t na aaiee he ||5||

Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. You can read until you are exhausted, but you shall not find peace and tranquility. ||5||

ਇਕਿ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥

eik bhasam lagai fireh bhekhadhaaree ||

Some smear their bodies with ashes, and wander around in religious disguises.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨਿ ਮਾਰੀ ॥

bin sabadhai haumai kin maaree ||

Without the Word of the Shabad, who has ever subdued egotism?

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੇਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥

anadhin jalat raheh dhin raatee bharam bhekh bharamaiee he ||6||

Night and day, they continue burning, day and night; they are deluded and confused by their doubt and religious costumes. ||6||

ਇਕਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਮਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥

eik gireh kuTa(n)b meh sadhaa udhaasee ||

Some, in the midst of their household and family, remain always unattached.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥

sabadh mue har naam nivaasee ||

They die in the Shabad, and dwell in the Lord's Name.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥

anadhin sadhaa raheh ra(n)g raate bhai bhai bhagat chit laiee he ||7||

Night and day, they remain forever attuned to His Love; they focus their consciousness on loving devotion and the Fear of God. ||7||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥

manmukh ni(n)dhaa kar kar vigutaa ||

The self-willed manmukh indulges in slander, and is ruined.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਉਕੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੁਤਾ ॥

a(n)tar lobh bhaukai jis kutaa ||

The dog of greed barks within him.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

jamakaal tis kadhe na chhoddai a(n)t giaa pachhutaiee he ||8||

The Messenger of Death never leaves him, and in the end, he leaves, regretting and repenting. ||8||

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥

sachai sabadh sachee pat hoiee ||

Through the True Word of the Shabad, true honor is obtained.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

bin naavai mukat na paavai koiee ||

Without the Name, no one attains liberation.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਐਸੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥

bin satigur ko naau na paae prabh aaisee banat banaiee he ||9||

Without the True Guru, no one finds the Name. Such is the making which God has made. ||9||

ਇਕਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

eik sidh saadhik bahut veechaaree ||

Some are Siddhas and seekers, and great contemplators.

ਇਕਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥

eik ahinis naam rate nira(n)kaaree ||

Some remain imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, day and night.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥

jis no aap milaae so boojhai bhagat bhai bhau jaiee he ||10||

He alone understands, whom the Lord unites with Himself; through loving devotional worship, fear is dispelled. ||10||

ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ॥

eisanaan dhaan kareh nahee boojheh ||

Some take cleansing baths and give donations to charities, but they do not understand.

ਇਕਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ ॥

eik manooaa maar manai siau loojheh ||

Some struggle with their minds, and conquer and subdue their minds.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥

saachai sabadh rate ik ra(n)gee saachai sabadh milaiee he ||11||

Some are imbued with love for the True Word of the Shabad; they merge with the True Shabad. ||11||

ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

aape siraje dhe vaddiaaiee ||

He Himself creates and bestows glorious greatness.

ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣੈ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

aape bhaanai dhei milaiee ||

By the Pleasure of His Will, He bestows union.

ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਇਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥

aape nadhar kare man vasiaa merai prabh iau furamaiee he ||12||

Bestowing His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind; such is the Command ordained by my God. ||12||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥

satigur seveh se jan saache ||

Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥

manmukh sev na jaanan kaache ||

The false, self-willed manmukhs do not know how to serve the Guru.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥

aape karataa kar kar vekhai jiau bhaavai tiau laiee he ||13||

The Creator Himself creates the creation and watches over it; he attaches all according to the Pleasure of His Will. ||13||

ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥

jug jug saachaa eko dhaataa ||

In each and every age, the True Lord is the one and only Giver.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥

poorai bhaag gur sabadh pachhaataa ||

Through perfect destiny, one realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥

sabadh mile se vichhuRe naahee nadharee sahaj milaiee he ||14||

Those who are immersed in the Shabad are not separated again. By His Grace, they are intuitively immersed in the Lord. ||14||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

haumai maiaa mail kamaiaa ||

Acting in egotism, they are stained with the filth of Maya.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

mar mar ja(n)meh dhoojaa bhaiaa ||

They die and die again, only to be reborn in the love of duality.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥

bin satigur seve mukat na hoiee man dhekhahu liv laiee he ||15||

Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation. O mind, tune into this, and see. ||15||
