ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥
satigur seviaai sahaj ana(n)dhaa ||
Serving the True Guru, one obtains intuitive bliss.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਆਇ ਵੁਠਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥
hiradhai aai vuThaa govi(n)dhaa ||
The Lord of the Universe comes to dwell within the heart.
ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
sahaje bhagat kare dhin raatee aape bhagat karaidhaa ||4||
He intuitively practices devotional worship day and night; God Himself practices devotional worship. ||4||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
satigur te vichhuRe tinee dhukh paiaa ||
Those who are separated from the True Guru, suffer in misery.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
anadhin maare'eh dhukh sabaiaa ||
Night and day, they are punished, and they suffer in total agony.
ਮਥੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
mathe kaale mahal na paaveh dhukh hee vich dhukh paidhaa ||5||
Their faces are blackened, and they do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. They suffer in sorrow and agony. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
satigur seveh se vaddabhaagee ||
Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate.
ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
sahaj bhai sachee liv laagee ||
They intuitively enshrine love for the True Lord.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
sacho sach kamaaveh sadh hee sachai mel milaidhaa ||6||
They practice Truth, forever Truth; they are united in Union with the True Lord. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no sachaa dhei su paae ||
He alone obtains the Truth, unto whom the True Lord gives it.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
a(n)tar saach bharam chukaae ||
His inner being is filled with Truth, and his doubt is dispelled.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੈ ਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
sach sachai kaa aape dhaataa jis dhevai so sach paidhaa ||7||
The True Lord Himself is the Giver of Truth; he alone obtains the Truth, unto whom He gives it. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aape karataa sabhanaa kaa soiee ||
He Himself is the Creator of all.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis no aap bujhaae boojhai koiee ||
Only one whom He instructs, understands Him.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
aape bakhase dhe vaddiaaiee aape mel milaidhaa ||8||
He Himself forgives, and grants glorious greatness. He himself unites in His Union. ||8||
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
haumai karadhiaa janam gavaiaa ||
Acting egotistically, one loses his life.
ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
aagai moh na chookai maiaa ||
Even in the world hereafter, emotioal attachment to Maya does not leave him.
ਅਗੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
agai jamakaal lekhaa levai jiau til ghaanee peeRaidhaa ||9||
In the world hereafter, the Messenger of Death calls him to account, and crushes him like sesame seeds in the oil-press. ||9||
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sevaa hoiee ||
By perfect destiny, one serves the Guru.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
nadhar kare taa seve koiee ||
If God grants His Grace, then one serves.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
jamakaal tis neR na aavai mahal sachai sukh paidhaa ||10||
The Messenger of Death cannot even approach him, and in the Mansion of the True Lord's Presence, he finds peace. ||10||
ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਏ ॥
tin sukh paiaa jo tudh bhaae ||
They alone find peace, who are pleasing to Your Will.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sevaa laae ||
By perfect destiny, they are attached to the Guru's service.
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
terai hath hai sabh vaddiaaiee jis dheveh so paidhaa ||11||
All glorious greatness rests in Your Hands; he alone obtains it, unto whom You give it. ||11||
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
a(n)dhar paragaas guroo te paae ||
Through the Guru, one's inner being is enlightened and illumined.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
naam padhaarath ma(n)n vasaae ||
The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in the mind.
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
giaan ratan sadhaa ghaT chaanan agiaan a(n)dher gavaidhaa ||12||
The jewel of spiritual wisdom ever illumines the heart, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||12||
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
agiaanee a(n)dhe dhoojai laage ||
The blind and ignorant are attached to duality.
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੁਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
bin paanee ddub mooe abhaage ||
The unfortunates are drowned without water, and die.
ਚਲਦਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
chaladhiaa ghar dhar nadhar na aavai jam dhar baadhaa dhukh paidhaa ||13||
When they depart from the world, they do not find the Lord's door and home; bound and gagged at Death's door, they suffer in pain. ||13||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satigur seve mukat na hoiee ||
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
giaanee dhiaanee poochhahu koiee ||
Go ask any spiritual teacher or meditator.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
satigur seve tis milai vaddiaaiee dhar sachai sobhaa paidhaa ||14||
Whoever serves the True Guru is blessed with glorious greatness, and honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||14||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
satigur no seve tis aap milaae ||
One who serves the True Guru, the Lord merges into Himself.
ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
mamataa kaaT sach liv laae ||
Cutting away attachment, one lovingly focuses on the True Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
sadhaa sach vanajeh vaapaaree naamo laahaa paidhaa ||15||
The merchants deal forever in Truth; they earn the profit of the Naam. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
aape kare karaae karataa ||
The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
sabadh marai soiee jan mukataa ||
He alone is liberated, who dies in the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥
naanak naam vasai man a(n)tar naamo naam dhiaaidhaa ||16||5||19||
O Nanak, the Naam dwells deep within the mind; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||5||19||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maaroo mahalaa teejaa ||
Maaroo, Third Mehla:
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jo tudh karanaa so kar paiaa ||
Whatever You do, is done.
ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaane vich ko viralaa aaiaa ||
How rare are those who walk in harmony with the Lord's Will.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
bhaanaa ma(n)ne so sukh paae bhaane vich sukh paidhaa ||1||
One who surrenders to the Lord's Will finds peace; he finds peace in the Lord's Will. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh teraa bhaanaa bhaavai ||
Your Will is pleasing to the Gurmukh.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
sahaje hee sukh sach kamaavai ||
Practicing Truth, he intuitively finds peace.
ਭਾਣੇ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
bhaane no lochai bahuteree aapanaa bhaanaa aap manaidhaa ||2||
Many long to walk in harmony with the Lord's Will; He Himself inspires us to surrender to His Will. ||2||
ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਏ ॥
teraa bhaanaa ma(n)ne su milai tudh aae ||
One who surrenders to Your Will, meets with You, Lord.
