ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਤੂਠਾ ॥
haraamakhor niragun kau tooThaa ||
I am unworthy and ungrateful, but He has been merciful to me.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੂਠਾ ॥
man tan seetal man a(n)mrit vooThaa ||
My mind and body have been cooled and soothed; the Ambrosial Nectar rains down in my mind.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
paarabraham gur bhe dhiaalaa ||
The Supreme Lord God, the Guru, has become kind and compassionate to me.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੩॥
naanak dhaas dhekh bhe nihaalaa ||4||10||23||
Slave Nanak beholds the Lord, enraptured. ||4||10||23||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ॥

My True Guru is totally independent.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਜੁ ॥
satigur mere sachaa saaj ||
My True Guru is adorned with Truth.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭਸ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
satigur meraa sabhas kaa dhaataa ||
My True Guru is the Giver of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
satigur meraa purakh bidhaataa ||1||
My True Guru is the Primal Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਜੈਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੇਵ ॥
gur jaisaa naahee ko dhev ||
There is no deity equal to the Guru.
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਸੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jis masatak bhaagu su laagaa sev ||1|| rahaau ||
Whoever has good destiny inscribed on his forehead, applies himself to seva - selfless service. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ॥
satigur meraa sarab pratipaalai ||
My True Guru is the Sustainer and Cherisher of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੈ ॥
satigur meraa maar jeevaalai ||
My True Guru kills and revives.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਈ ਹੈ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥੨॥
satigur mere kee vaddiaaiee || pragaT bhiee hai sabhanee thaiee ||2||
The glorious greatness of my True Guru has become manifest everywhere. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਨਿਤਾਣੁ ॥
satigur meraa taan nitaan ||
My True Guru is the power of the powerless.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰਿ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥
satigur meraa ghar dheebaan ||
My True Guru is my home and court.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
satigur kai hau sadh bal jaiaa ||
I am forever a sacrifice to the True Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਿਖਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
pragaT maarag jin kar dhikhalaiaa ||3||
He has shown me the path. ||3||
ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
jin gur seviaa tis bhau na biaapai ||
One who serves the Guru is not afflicted with fear.
ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
jin gur seviaa tis dhukh na sa(n)taapai ||
One who serves the Guru does not suffer in pain.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਧੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ॥
naanak sodhe si(n)mirat bedh ||
Nanak has studied the Simritees and the Vedas.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਭੇਦ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੪॥
paarabraham gur naahee bhedh ||4||11||24||
There is no difference between the Supreme Lord God and the Guru. ||4||11||24||

ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

Repeating the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal is exalted and glorified.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪਾਪੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਗਇਆ ॥
naam lait paap tan te giaa ||
Repeating the Naam, sin is banished from the body.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਸਗਲ ਪੁਰਬਾਇਆ ॥
naam lait sagal purabaiaa ||
Repeating the Naam, all festivals are celebrated.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
naam lait aThasaTh majanaiaa ||1||
Repeating the Naam, one is cleansed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines. ||1||
ਤੀਰਥੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
teerath hamaraa har ko naam ||
My sacred shrine of pilgrimage is the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur upadhesiaa tat giaan ||1|| rahaau ||
The Guru has instructed me in the true essence of spiritual wisdom. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥
naam lait dhukh dhoor paraanaa ||
Repeating the Naam, the mortal's pains are taken away.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਤਿ ਮੂੜ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
naam lait at mooR sugiaanaa ||
Repeating the Naam, the most ignorant people become spiritual teachers.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪਰਗਟਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
naam lait paragaT ujeeaaraa ||
Repeating the Naam, the Divine Light blazes forth.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਛੁਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
naam lait chhuTe ja(n)jaaraa ||2||
Repeating the Naam, one's bonds are broken. ||2||
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
naam lait jam neR na aavai ||
Repeating the Naam, the Messenger of Death does not draw near.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
naam lait dharageh sukh paavai ||
Repeating the Naam, one finds peace in the Court of the Lord.
ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
naam lait prabh kahai saabaas ||
Repeating the Naam, God gives His Approval.
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
naam hamaaree saachee raas ||3||
The Naam is my true wealth. ||3||
ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਹਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gur upadhes kahio ih saar ||
The Guru has instructed me in these sublime teachings.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
har keerat man naam adhaar ||
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praises and the Naam are the Support of the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਪੁਨਹਚਾਰ ॥
naanak udhare naam punahachaar ||
Nanak is saved through the atonement of the Naam.
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਲੋਕਹ ਪਤੀਆਰ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੫॥
avar karam lokeh pateeaar ||4||12||25||
Other actions are just to please and appease the people. ||4||12||25||

Bhairao, Fifth Mehla:
ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਲਖ ਬਾਰ ॥
namasakaar taa kau lakh baar ||
I bow in humble worship, tens of thousands of times.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿ ॥
eih man dheejai taa kau vaar ||
I offer this mind as a sacrifice.
ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥
simaran taa kai miTeh sa(n)taap ||
Meditating in remembrance on Him, sufferings are erased.
ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਹਿ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥
hoi ana(n)dh na viaapeh taap ||1||
Bliss wells up, and no disease is contracted. ||1||
ਐਸੋ ਹੀਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
aaiso heeraa niramal naam ||
Such is the diamond, the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaas japat pooran sabh kaam ||1|| rahaau ||
Chanting it, all works are perfectly completed. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹੈ ॥
jaa kee dhirasaT dhukh dderaa ddahai ||
Beholding Him, the house of pain is demolished.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਗਹੈ ॥
a(n)mirat naam seetal man gahai ||
The mind seizes the cooling, soothing, Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam.
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਗਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪੂਜਾਰੀ ॥
anik bhagat jaa ke charan poojaaree ||
Millions of devotees worship His Feet.
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
sagal manorath pooranahaaree ||2||
He is the Fulfiller of all the mind's desires. ||2||
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਣੇ ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰਿਆ ॥
khin meh uoone subhar bhariaa ||
In an instant, He fills the empty to over-flowing.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਕੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਹਰਿਆ ॥
khin meh sooke keene hariaa ||
In an instant, He transforms the dry into green.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੋ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
khin meh nithaave kau dheeno thaan ||
In an instant, He gives the homeless a home.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
khin meh nimaane kau dheeno maan ||3||
In an instant, He bestows honor on the dishonored. ||3||
