ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Save me, O my Merciful Lord God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾਪ ਨ ਤਾਪ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਿ ॥
jaap na taap na karam keet ||
I have not practiced meditation, austerities or good actions.
ਆਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੂ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
aavai naahee kachhoo reet ||
I do not know the way to meet You.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਆਸ ਏਕ ॥
man meh raakhau aas ek ||
Within my mind, I have placed my hopes in the One Lord alone.
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਤਰਉ ਟੇਕ ॥੨॥
naam tere kee tarau Tek ||2||
The Support of Your Name shall carry me across. ||2||
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮੑ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥
sarab kalaa prabh tum(h) prabeen ||
You are the Expert, O God, in all powers.
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਲਹਿ ਮੀਨ ॥
a(n)t na paaveh jaleh meen ||
The fish cannot find the limits of the water.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਊਚਹ ਤੇ ਊਚ ॥
agam agam uoocheh te uooch ||
You are Inaccessible and Unfathomable, the Highest of the High.
ਹਮ ਥੋਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੂਚ ॥੩॥
ham thore tum bahut mooch ||3||
I am small, and You are so very Great. ||3||
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਗਨੀ ॥
jin too dhiaaiaa se ganee ||
Those who meditate on You are wealthy.
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਧਨੀ ॥
jin too paiaa se dhanee ||
Those who attain You are rich.
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸੁਖੀ ਸੇ ॥
jin too seviaa sukhee se ||
Those who serve You are peaceful.
ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰੇ ॥੪॥੭॥
sa(n)t saran naanak pare ||4||7||
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||4||7||

Basant, Fifth Mehla:
ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਕੀਆ ॥
tis too sev jin too keeaa ||
Serve the One who created You.
ਤਿਸੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ ॥
tis araadh jin jeeau dheeaa ||
Worship the One who gave you life.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਾਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
tis kaa chaakar hoh fir ddaan na laagai ||
Become His servant, and you shall never again be punished.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਪੋਤਦਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
tis kee kar potadhaaree fir dhookh na laagai ||1||
Become His trustee, and you shall never again suffer sorrow. ||1||
ਏਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
evadd bhaag hoh jis praanee ||
That mortal who is blessed with such great good fortune,
ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਇਹੁ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so paae ih padh nirabaanee ||1|| rahaau ||
attains this state of Nirvaanaa. ||1||Pause||
ਦੂਜੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥
dhoojee sevaa jeevan birathaa ||
Life is wasted uselessly in the service of duality.
ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਰਥਾ ॥
kachhoo na hoiee hai pooran arathaa ||
No efforts shall be rewarded, and no works brought to fruition.
ਮਾਣਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਖਰੀ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
maanas sevaa kharee dhuhelee ||
It is so painful to serve only mortal beings.
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥੨॥
saadh kee sevaa sadhaa suhelee ||2||
Service to the Holy brings lasting peace and bliss. ||2||
ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
je loReh sadhaa sukh bhaiee ||
If you long for eternal peace, O Siblings of Destiny,
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਬਤਾਈ ॥
saadhoo sa(n)gat gureh bataiee ||
then join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; this is the Guru's advice.
ਊਹਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
uoohaa japeeaai keval naam ||
There, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is meditated on.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮ ॥੩॥
saadhoo sa(n)gat paaragaraam ||3||
In the Saadh Sangat, you shall be emancipated. ||3||
ਸਗਲ ਤਤ ਮਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sagal tat meh tat giaan ||
Among all essences, this is the essence of spiritual wisdom.
ਸਰਬ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
sarab dhiaan meh ek dhiaan ||
Among all meditations, meditation on the One Lord is the most sublime.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਤਮ ਧੁਨਾ ॥
har keeratan meh uootam dhunaa ||
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is the ultimate melody.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak gur mil gai gunaa ||4||8||
Meeting with the Guru, Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||8||
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
basa(n)t mahalaa panjavaa ||
Basant, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸੁ ਬੋਲਤ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis bolat mukh pavit hoi ||
Chanting His Name, one's mouth becomes pure.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis simarat niramal hai soi ||
Meditating in remembrance on Him, one's reputation becomes stainless.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥
jis araadhe jam kichh na kahai ||
Worshipping Him in adoration, one is not tortured by the Messenger of Death.
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥
jis kee sevaa sabh kichh lahai ||1||
Serving Him, everything is obtained. ||1||
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ॥
raam raam bol raam raam ||
The Lord's Name - chant the Lord's Name.
ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tiaagahu man ke sagal kaam ||1|| rahaau ||
Abandon all the desires of your mind. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਧਾਰੇ ਧਰਣਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ॥
jis ke dhaare dharan akaas ||
He is the Support of the earth and the sky.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
ghaT ghaT jis kaa hai pragaas ||
His Light illuminates each and every heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis simarat patit puneet hoi ||
Meditating in remembrance on Him, even fallen sinners are sanctified;
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
a(n)t kaal fir fir na roi ||2||
in the end, they will not weep and wail over and over again. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਊਤਮ ਧਰਮ ॥
sagal dharam meh uootam dharam ||
Among all religions, this is the ultimate religion.
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਕੈ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਮ ॥
karam karatoot kai uoopar karam ||
Among all rituals and codes of conduct, this is above all.
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ॥
jis kau chaaheh sur nar dhev ||
The angels, mortals and divine beings long for Him.
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕੀ ਲਗਹੁ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥
sa(n)t sabhaa kee lagahu sev ||3||
To find Him, commit yourself to the service of the Society of the Saints. ||3||
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
aadh purakh jis keeaa dhaan ||
One whom the Primal Lord God blesses with His bounties,
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
tis kau miliaa har nidhaan ||
obtains the treasure of the Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tis kee gat mit kahee na jai ||
His state and extent cannot be described.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak jan har har dhiaai ||4||9||
Servant Nanak meditates on the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||9||

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

My mind and body are gripped by thirst and desire.
ਗੁਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥
gur dhiaal pooree meree aas ||
The Merciful Guru has fulfilled my hopes.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥
kilavikh kaaTe saadhasa(n)g ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all my sins have been taken away.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੧॥
naam japio har naam ra(n)g ||1||
I chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; I am in love with the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਬਨਾ ॥
gur parasaadh basa(n)t banaa ||
By Guru's Grace, this spring of the soul has come.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan kamal hiradhai ur dhaare sadhaa sadhaa har jas sunaa ||1|| rahaau ||
I enshrine the Lord's Lotus Feet within my heart; I listen to the Lord's Praise, forever and ever. ||1||Pause||
