ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਹੁ ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤਕ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥

kiau na araadhahu mil kar saadhahu gharee muhatak belaa aaiee ||

Why do you not worship and adore Him? Join together with the Holy Saints; any instant, your time shall come.

ਅਰਥੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥

arath dharab sabh jo kichh dheesai sa(n)g na kachhahoo jaiee ||

All your property and wealth, and all that you see - none of it will go along with you.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੨॥

kahu naanak har har aaraadhahu kavan upamaa dheau kavan baddaiee ||2||

Says Nanak, worship and adore the Lord, Har, Har. What praise, and what approval, can I offer to Him? ||2||

ਪੂਛਉ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥

poochhau sa(n)t mero Thaakur kaisaa ||

I ask the Saints, what is my Lord and Master like?

ਹਂੀਉ ਅਰਾਪਉਂ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ॥

ha(n)eeau araapau(n) dheh sadhesaa ||

I offer my heart, to one who brings me news of Him.

ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਨ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥

dheh sadhesaa prabh jeeau kaisaa keh mohan paravesaa ||

Give me news of my Dear God; where does the Enticer live?

ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਈ ਥਾਨ ਥਾਨੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥

a(n)g a(n)g sukhadhaiee pooran brahamaiee thaan thaana(n)tar dhesaa ||

He is the Giver of peace to life and limb; God is totally permeating all places, interspaces and countries.

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ॥

ba(n)dhan te mukataa ghaT ghaT jugataa keh na sakau har jaisaa ||

He is liberated from bondage, joined to each and every heart. I cannot say what the Lord is like.

ਦੇਖਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਛੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥੩॥

dhekh charit naanak man mohio poochhai dheen mero Thaakur kaisaa ||3||

Gazing upon His wondrous play, O Nanak, my mind is fascinated. I humbly ask, what is my Lord and Master like? ||3||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

kar kirapaa apune peh aaiaa ||

In His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant.

ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁ ਰਿਦਾ ਜਿਹ ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥

dha(n)n su ridhaa jeh charan basaiaa ||

Blessed is that heart, in which the Lord's Feet are enshrined.

ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

charan basaiaa sa(n)t sa(n)gaiaa agiaan a(n)dher gavaiaa ||

His Feet are enshrined within, in the Society of the Saints; the darkness of ignorance is dispelled.

ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਲਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

bhiaa pragaas ridhai ulaas prabh loReedhaa paiaa ||

The heart is enlightened and illumined and enraptured; God has been found.

ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥

dhukh naaThaa sukh ghar meh vooThaa mahaa ana(n)dh sahajaiaa ||

Pain is gone, and peace has come to my house. The ultimate intuitive peace prevails.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

kahu naanak mai pooraa paiaa kar kirapaa apune peh aaiaa ||4||1||

Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Lord; in His Kindness, He has come to His humble servant. ||4||1||

ਸਾਰੰਗ ਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਰਾਇ ਮਹਮੇ ਹਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਧੁਨਿ

saara(n)g kee vaar mahalaa chauthhaa rai mahame hasane kee dhun

Vaar Of Saarang, Fourth Mehla, To Be Sung To The Tune Of Mehma-Hasna:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੨ ॥

salok mahalaa doojaa ||

Shalok, Second Mehla:

ਗੁਰੁ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਪਾਹੂ ਨਿਵਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੋਠਾ ਤਨੁ ਛਤਿ ॥

gur ku(n)jee paahoo nival man koThaa tan chhat ||

The key of the Guru opens the lock of attachment, in the house of the mind, under the roof of the body.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤਾਕੁ ਨ ਉਘੜੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹਥਿ ॥੧॥

naanak gur bin man kaa taak na ughaRai avar na ku(n)jee hath ||1||

O Nanak, without the Guru, the door of the mind cannot be opened. No one else holds the key in hand. ||1||

ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

mahalaa pehilaa ||

First Mehla:

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥

n bheejai raagee naadhee bedh ||

He is not won over by music, songs or the Vedas.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥

n bheejai suratee giaanee jog ||

He is not won over by intuitive wisdom, meditation or Yoga.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥

n bheejai sogee keetai roj ||

He is not won over by feeling sad and depressed forever.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪਂੀ ਮਾਲਂੀ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

n bheejai roopa(n)ee maala(n)ee ra(n)g ||

He is not won over by beauty, wealth and pleasures.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥

n bheejai teerath bhaviaai na(n)g ||

He is not won over by wandering naked at sacred shrines.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤਂੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥

n bheejai dhaata(n)ee keetai pu(n)n ||

He is not won over by giving donations in charity.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥

n bheejai baahar baiThiaa su(n)n ||

He is not won over by living alone in the wilderness.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥

n bheejai bheR mareh bhiR soor ||

He is not won over by fighting and dying as a warrior in battle.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥

n bheejai kete hoveh dhooR ||

He is not won over by becoming the dust of the masses.

ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

lekhaa likheeaai man kai bhai ||

The account is written of the loves of the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

naanak bheejai saachai nai ||2||

O Nanak, the Lord is won over only by His Name. ||2||

ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

mahalaa pehilaa ||

First Mehla:

ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

nav chhia khaT kaa kare beechaar ||

You may study the nine grammars, the six Shaastras and the six divions of the Vedas.

ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨ ਉਚਰੈ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰ ॥

nis dhin ucharai bhaar aThaar ||

You may recite the Mahaabhaarata.

ਤਿਨਿ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੋਹਿ ॥

tin bhee a(n)t na paiaa toh ||

Even these cannot find the limits of the Lord.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥

naam bihoon mukat kiau hoi ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be liberated?

ਨਾਭਿ ਵਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥

naabh vasat brahamai a(n)t na jaaniaa ||

Brahma, in the lotus of the navel, does not know the limits of God.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

gurmukh naanak naam pachhaaniaa ||3||

The Gurmukh, O Nanak, realizes the Naam. ||3||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

aape aap nira(n)janaa jin aap upaiaa ||

The Immaculate Lord Himself, by Himself, created Himself.

ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥

aape khel rachaion sabh jagat sabaiaa ||

He Himself created the whole drama of all the world's play.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥

trai gun aap sirajian maiaa moh vadhaiaa ||

He Himself formed the three gunas, the three qualities; He increased the attachment to Maya.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

gur parasaadhee ubare jin bhaanaa bhaiaa ||

By Guru's Grace, they are saved - those who love the Will of God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

naanak sach varatadhaa sabh sach samaiaa ||1||

O Nanak, the True Lord is pervading everywhere; all are contained within the True Lord. ||1||
