ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
gurmukh jeevai marai paravaan ||
The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death.
ਆਰਜਾ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
aarajaa na chheejai sabadh pachhaan ||
Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gurmukh marai na kaal na khaae gurmukh sach samaavaniaa ||2||
The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
gurmukh har dhar sobhaa paae ||
The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
gurmukh vichahu aap gavaae ||
The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
aap tarai kul sagale taare gurmukh janam savaaraniaa ||3||
They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
gurmukh dhukh kadhe na lagai sareer ||
The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਪੀਰ ॥
gurmukh haumai chookai peer ||
The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
gurmukh man niramal fir mail na laagai gurmukh sahaj samaavaniaa ||4||
The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh naam milai vaddiaaiee ||
The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
gurmukh gun gaavai sobhaa paiee ||
The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sadhaa ana(n)dh rahai dhin raatee gurmukh sabadh karaavaniaa ||5||
They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh anadhin sabadhe raataa ||
The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh jug chaare hai jaataa ||
The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gurmukh gun gaavai sadhaa niramal sabadhe bhagat karaavaniaa ||6||
The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6||
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥
baajh guroo hai a(n)dh a(n)dhaaraa ||
Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness.
ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਠੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥
jamakaal garaThe kareh pukaaraa ||
Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
anadhin rogee bisaTaa ke keeRe bisaTaa meh dhukh paavaniaa ||7||
Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
gurmukh aape kare karaae ||
The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਏ ॥
gurmukh hiradhai vuThaa aap aae ||
In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੫॥੨੬॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaiee poore gur te paavaniaa ||8||25||26||
O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maajh mahalaa teejaa ||
Maajh, Third Mehla:
ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
ekaa jot jot hai sareeraa ||
The One Light is the light of all bodies.
ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
sabadh dhikhaae satigur pooraa ||
The Perfect True Guru reveals it through the Word of the Shabad.
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
aape farak keeton ghaT a(n)tar aape banat banaavaniaa ||1||
He Himself instills the sense of separation within our hearts; He Himself created the Creation. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeau vaaree har sache ke gun gaavaniaa ||
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord.
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baajh guroo ko sahaj na paae gurmukh sahaj samaavaniaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Without the Guru, no one obtains intuitive wisdom; the Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਹਿ ॥
too(n) aape soheh aape jag moheh ||
You Yourself are Beautiful, and You Yourself entice the world.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਵਹਿ ॥
too(n) aape nadharee jagat paroveh ||
You Yourself, by Your Kind Mercy, weave the thread of the world.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
too(n) aape dhukh sukh dheveh karate gurmukh har dhekhaavaniaa ||2||
You Yourself bestow pain and pleasure, O Creator. The Lord reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aape karataa kare karaae ||
The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act.
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
aape sabadh gur ma(n)n vasaae ||
Through Him, the Word of the Guru's Shabad is enshrined within the mind.
ਸਬਦੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sabadhe upajai a(n)mirat baanee gurmukh aakh sunaavaniaa ||3||
The Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani emanates from the Word of the Shabad. The Gurmukh speaks it and hears it. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥
aape karataa aape bhugataa ||
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
ba(n)dhan toRe sadhaa hai mukataa ||
One who breaks out of bondage is liberated forever.
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
sadhaa mukat aape hai sachaa aape alakh lakhaavaniaa ||4||
The True Lord is liberated forever. The Unseen Lord causes Himself to be seen. ||4||
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
aape maiaa aape chhaiaa ||
He Himself is Maya, and He Himself is the Illusion.
ਆਪੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
aape moh sabh jagat upaiaa ||
He Himself has generated emotional attachment throughout the entire universe.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
aape gunadhaataa gun gaavai aape aakh sunaavaniaa ||5||
He Himself is the Giver of Virtue; He Himself sings the Lord's Glorious Praises. He chants them and causes them to be heard. ||5||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
aape kare karaae aape ||
He Himself acts, and causes others to act.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
aape thaap uthaape aape ||
He Himself establishes and disestablishes.
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
tujh te baahar kachhoo na hovai too(n) aape kaarai laavaniaa ||6||
Without You, nothing can be done. You Yourself have engaged all in their tasks. ||6||
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਏ ॥
aape maare aap jeevaae ||
He Himself kills, and He Himself revives.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aape mele mel milaae ||
He Himself unites us, and unites us in Union with Himself.
ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sevaa te sadhaa sukh paiaa gurmukh sahaj samaavaniaa ||7||
Through selfless service, eternal peace is obtained. The Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||7||
