Ang 1257 of 1,430

ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥

nit nit leh na chheejai dheh ||

Take it each and every day, and your body shall not waste away.

ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਠੇਹ ॥੧॥

a(n)t kaal jam maarai Theh ||1||

At the very last instant, you shall strike down the Messenger of Death. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਖਾਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

aaisaa dhaaroo khaeh gavaar ||

So take such medicine, O fool,

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jit khaadhai tere jaeh vikaar ||1|| rahaau ||

by which your corruption shall be taken away. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਂਵ ॥

raaj maal joban sabh chhaa(n)v ||

Power, wealth and youth are all just shadows,

ਰਥਿ ਫਿਰੰਦੈ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਥਾਵ ॥

rath fira(n)dhai dheeseh thaav ||

as are the vehicles you see moving around.

ਦੇਹ ਨ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥

dheh na naau na hovai jaat ||

Neither your body, nor your fame, nor your social status shall go along with you.

ਓਥੈ ਦਿਹੁ ਐਥੈ ਸਭ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥

othai dhih aaithai sabh raat ||2||

In the next world it is day, while here, it is all night. ||2||

ਸਾਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਧਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਘਿਉ ਤੇਲੁ ॥

saadh kar samadhaa(n) tirasanaa ghiau tel ||

Let your taste for pleasures be the firewood, let your greed be the ghee,

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲੁ ॥

kaam karodh aganee siau mel ||

and your sexual desire and anger the cooking oil; burn them in the fire.

ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥

hom jag ar paaTh puraan ||

Some make burnt offerings, hold sacred feasts, and read the Puraanas.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣ ॥੩॥

jo tis bhaavai so paravaan ||3||

Whatever pleases God is acceptable. ||3||

ਤਪੁ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥

tap kaagadh teraa naam neesaan ||

Intense meditation is the paper, and Your Name is the insignia.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥

jin kau likhiaa eh nidhaan ||

Those for whom this treasure is ordered,

ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

se dhanava(n)t dhiseh ghar jai ||

look wealthy when they reach their true home.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਨੀ ਧੰਨੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥

naanak jananee dha(n)nee mai ||4||3||8||

O Nanak, blessed is that mother who gave birth to them. ||4||3||8||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

malaar mahalaa pehilaa ||

Malaar, First Mehla:

ਬਾਗੇ ਕਾਪੜ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੈਣ ॥

baage kaapaR bolai bain ||

You wear white clothes, and speak sweet words.

ਲੰਮਾ ਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ॥

la(n)maa nak kaale tere nain ||

Your nose is sharp, and your eyes are black.

ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਭੈਣ ॥੧॥

kabahoo(n) saahib dhekhiaa bhain ||1||

Have you ever seen your Lord and Master, O sister? ||1||

ਊਡਾਂ ਊਡਿ ਚੜਾਂ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ॥

uooddaa(n) uoodd chaRaa(n) asamaan || saahib sa(n)mrith terai taan ||

O my All-powerful Lord and Master, by Your power, I fly and soar, and ascend to the heavens.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤੀਰ ॥

jal thal ddoo(n)gar dhekhaa(n) teer ||

I see Him in the water, on the land, in the mountains, on the river-banks,

ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੨॥

thaan thana(n)tar saahib beer ||2||

in all places and interspaces, O brother. ||2||

ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਦੀਏ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੰਭ ॥

jin tan saaj dhe'ee naal kha(n)bh ||

He fashioned the body, and gave it wings;

ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਉਡਣੈ ਕੀ ਡੰਝ ॥

at tirasanaa uddanai kee dda(n)jh ||

He gave it great thirst and desire to fly.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੰਧਾਂ ਧੀਰ ॥

nadhar kare taa(n) ba(n)dhaa(n) dheer ||

When He bestows His Glance of Grace, I am comforted and consoled.

ਜਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਲੇ ਤਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਬੀਰ ॥੩॥

jiau vekhaale tiau vekhaa(n) beer ||3||

As He makes me see, so do I see, O brother. ||3||

ਨ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਨ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਖੰਭ ॥

n ih tan jaigaa na jaahige kha(n)bh ||

Neither this body, nor its wings, shall go to the world hereafter.

ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧ ॥

paunai paanee aganee kaa sanaba(n)dh ||

It is a fusion of air, water and fire.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥

naanak karam hovai japeeaai kar gur peer ||

O Nanak, if it is in the mortal's karma, then he meditates on the Lord, with the Guru as his Spiritual Teacher.

ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥

sach samaavai eh sareer ||4||4||9||

This body is absorbed in the Truth. ||4||4||9||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਘਰੁ ੧

malaar mahalaa teejaa chaupadhe ghar pehilaa

Malaar, Third Mehla, Chau-Padhay, First House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥

nira(n)kaar aakaar hai aape aape bharam bhulaae ||

The Formless Lord is formed by Himself. He Himself deludes in doubt.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

kar kar karataa aape vekhai jit bhaavai tit laae ||

Creating the Creation, the Creator Himself beholds it; He enjoins us as He pleases.

ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੧॥

sevak kau ehaa vaddiaaiee jaa kau hukam manaae ||1||

This is the true greatness of His servant, that he obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command. ||1||

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੀਐ ॥

aapanaa bhaanaa aape jaanai gur kirapaa te laheeaai ||

Only He Himself knows His Will. By Guru's Grace, it is grasped.

ਏਹਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ehaa sakat sivai ghar aavai jeevadhiaa mar raheeaai ||1|| rahaau ||

When this play of Shiva and Shakti comes to his home, he remains dead while yet alive. ||1||Pause||

ਵੇਦ ਪੜੈ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥

vedh paRai paR vaadh vakhaanai brahamaa bisan mahesaa ||

They read the Vedas, and read them again, and engage in arguments about Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

ਏਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਹਸਾ ॥

eh tiragun maiaa jin jagat bhulaiaa janam maran kaa sahasaa ||

This three-phased Maya has deluded the whole world into cynicism about death and birth.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥

gur parasaadhee eko jaanai chookai manahu a(n)dhesaa ||2||

By Guru's Grace, know the One Lord, and the anxiety of your mind will be allayed. ||2||

ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥

ham dheen moorakh aveechaaree tum chi(n)taa karahu hamaaree ||

I am meek, foolish and thoughtless, but still, You take care of me.

ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥

hoh dhiaal kar dhaas dhaasaa kaa sevaa karee tumaaree ||

Please be kind to me, and make me the slave of Your slaves, so that I may serve You.

ਏਕੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੩॥

ek nidhaan dheh too apanaa ahinis naam vakhaanee ||3||

Please bless me with the treasure of the One Name, that I may chant it, day and night. ||3||

ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

kahat naanak gur parasaadhee boojhahu koiee aaisaa kare veechaaraa ||

Says Nanak, by Guru's Grace, understand. Hardly anyone considers this.

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਊਪਰਿ ਫੇਨੁ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

jiau jal uoopar fen budhabudhaa taisaa ih sa(n)saaraa ||

Like foam bubbling up on the surface of the water, so is this world.
