ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥

jeea dhaan dhei tirapataase sachai naam samaahee ||

Bestowing the gift of the soul, He satisfies the mortal beings, and merges them in the True Name.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

anadhin har raviaa ridh a(n)tar sahaj samaadh lagaahee ||2||

Night and day, they ravish and enjoy the Lord within the heart; they are intuitively absorbed in Samaadhi. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੇਦਿਆ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

satigur sabadhee ih man bhedhiaa hiradhai saachee baanee ||

The Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, has pierced my mind. The True Word of His Bani permeates my heart.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥

meraa prabh alakh na jaiee lakhiaa gurmukh akath kahaanee ||

My God is Unseen; He cannot be seen. The Gurmukh speaks the Unspoken.

ਆਪੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥੩॥

aape dhiaa kare sukhadhaataa japeeaai saari(n)gapaanee ||3||

When the Giver of peace grants His Grace, the mortal being meditates on the Lord, the Life of the Universe. ||3||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

aavan jaanaa bahuR na hovai gurmukh sahaj dhiaaiaa ||

He does not come and go in renicarnation any longer; the Gurmukh meditates intuitively.

ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮੰਨੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

man hee te man miliaa suaamee man hee ma(n)n samaiaa ||

From the mind, the mind merges into our Lord and Master; the mind is absorbed into the Mind.

ਸਾਚੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

saache hee sach saach pateejai vichahu aap gavaiaa ||4||

In truth, the True Lord is pleased with truth; eradicate egotism from within yourself. ||4||

ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

eko ek vasai man suaamee dhoojaa avar na koiee ||

Our One and Only Lord and Master dwells within the mind; there is no other at all.

ਏਕੋੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਮੀਠਾ ਜਗਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

ekuo naam a(n)mrit hai meeThaa jag niramal sach soiee ||

The One Name is Sweet Ambrosial Nectar; it is Immaculate Truth in the world.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥੪॥

naanak naam prabhoo te paieeaai jin kau dhur likhiaa hoiee ||5||4||

O Nanak, the Name of God is obtained, by those who are so predestined. ||5||4||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

malaar mahalaa teejaa ||

Malaar, Third Mehla:

ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਭਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

gan ga(n)dharab naame sabh udhare gur kaa sabadh veechaar ||

All the heavenly heralds and celestial singers are saved through the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

haumai maar sadh ma(n)n vasaiaa har raakhiaa ur dhaar ||

They contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. Subduing their ego, the Name abides in their minds; they keep the Lord enshrined in their hearts.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

jiseh bujhaae soiee boojhai jis no aape le milai ||

He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand; the Lord unites him with Himself.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੇ ਗਾਂਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

anadhin baanee sabadhe gaa(n)vai saach rahai liv lai ||1||

Night and day, he sings the Word of the Shabad and the Guru's Bani; he remains lovingly attuned to the True Lord. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਲਿ ॥

man mere khin khin naam sam(h)aal ||

O my mind, each and every moment, dwell on the Naam.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਖੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur kee dhaat sabadh sukh a(n)tar sadhaa nibahai terai naal ||1|| rahaau ||

The Shabad is the Guru's Gift. It shall bring you lasting peace deep within; it shall always stand by you. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

manmukh paakha(n)dd kadhe na chookai dhoojai bhai dhukh paae ||

The self-willed manmukhs never give up their hypocrisy; in the love of duality, they suffer in pain.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

naam visaar bikhiaa man raate birathaa janam gavaae ||

Forgetting the Naam, their minds are imbued with corruption. They waste away their lives uselessly.

ਇਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥

eeh velaa fir hath na aavai anadhin sadhaa pachhutaae ||

This opportunity shall not come into their hands again; night and day, they shall always regret and repent.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੨॥

mar mar janamai kadhe na boojhai visaTaa maeh samaae ||2||

They die and die again and again, only to be reborn, but they never understand. They rot away in manure. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

gurmukh naam rate se udhare gur kaa sabadh veechaar ||

The Gurmukhs are imbued with the Naam, and are saved; they contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

jeevan mukat har naam dhiaaiaa har raakhiaa ur dhaar ||

Meditating on the Name of the Lord, they are Jivan-mukta, liberated while yet alive. They enshrine the Lord within their hearts.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੋਈ ॥

man tan niramal niramal mat uootam uootam baanee hoiee ||

Their minds and bodies are immaculate, their intellect is immaculate and sublime. Their speech is sublime as well.

ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਏਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥

eko purakh ek prabh jaataa dhoojaa avar na koiee ||3||

They realize the One Primal Being, the One Lord God. There is no other at all. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

aape kare karaae prabh aape aape nadhar karei ||

God Himself is the Doer, and He Himself is the Cause of causes. He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮੇਇ ॥

man tan raataa gur kee baanee sevaa surat samei ||

My mind and body are imbued with the Word of the Guru's Bani. My consciousness is immersed in His service.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਲਖਾਇ ॥

a(n)tar vasiaa alakh abhevaa gurmukh hoi lakhai ||

The Unseen and Inscrutable Lord dwells deep within. He is seen only by the Gurmukh.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੫॥

naanak jis bhaavai tis aape dhevai bhaavai tivai chalai ||4||5||

O Nanak, He gives to whomever He pleases. According to the Pleasure of His Will, He leads the mortals on. ||4||5||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ॥

malaar mahalaa teejaa dhutuke ||

Malaar, Third Mehla, Dho-Thukay:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਸੁ ਥਾਨੁ ॥

satigur te paavai ghar dhar mahalu su thaan ||

Through the True Guru, the mortal obtains the special place, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence in his own home.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥

gur sabadhee chookai abhimaan ||1||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, his egotistical pride is dispelled. ||1||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਲਾਟਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

jin kau lilaaT likhiaa dhur naam ||

Those who have the Naam inscribed on their foreheads,

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

anadhin naam sadhaa sadhaa dhiaaveh saachee dharageh paaveh maan ||1|| rahaau ||

meditate on the Naam night and day, forever and ever. They are honored in the True Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਦ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

man kee bidh satigur te jaanai anadhin laagai sadh har siau dhiaan ||

From the True Guru, they learn the ways and means of the mind. Night and day, they focus their meditation on the Lord forever.
