ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੨॥੪॥੪੯॥
bhai bhai bhagat nihaal naanak sadhaa sadhaa kurabaan ||2||4||49||
In the Fear of God and loving devotion, Nanak is exalted and enraptured, forever and ever a sacrifice to Him. ||2||4||49||

Kaanraa, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਰਤ ਕਰਤ ਚਰਚ ਚਰਚ ਚਰਚਰੀ ॥
karat karat charach charach characharee ||
The debaters debate and argue their arguments.
ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਭੇਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਧਰਤ ਧਰਤ ਧਰਚਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jog dhiaan bhekh giaan firat firat dharat dharat dharacharee ||1|| rahaau ||
The Yogis and meditators, religious and spiritual teachers roam and ramble, wandering endlessly all over the earth. ||1||Pause||
ਅਹੰ ਅਹੰ ਅਹੈ ਅਵਰ ਮੂੜ ਮੂੜ ਮੂੜ ਬਵਰਈ ॥
aha(n) aha(n) ahai avar mooR mooR mooR bavariee ||
They are egotistical, self-centered and conceited, foolish, stupid, idiotic and insane.
ਜਤਿ ਜਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਲ ਹਈ ॥੧॥
jat jaat jaat jaat sadhaa sadhaa sadhaa sadhaa kaal hiee ||1||
Wherever they go and wander, death is always with them, forever and ever and ever and ever. ||1||
ਮਾਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਈ ॥
maan maan maan tiaag mrit mrit nikaT nikaT sadhaa hiee ||
Give up your pride and stubborn self-conceit; death, yes, death, is always close and near at hand.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰੇ ਭਾਜੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਮੂੜ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਭਜਨ ਭਜਨ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਈ ॥੨॥੫॥੫੦॥੧੨॥੬੨॥
har hare hare bhaaj kahat naanak sunahu re mooR bin bhajan bhajan bhajan ahilaa janam giee ||2||5||50||12||62||
Vibrate and meditate on the Lord, Har, Haray, Haray. Says Nanak, listen you fool: without vibrating, and meditating, and dwelling on Him, your life is uselessly wasting away. ||2||5||50||12||62||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jap man raam naam sukh paavaigo ||
Chant the Name of the Lord, O mind, and find peace.
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jiau jiau japai tivai sukh paavai satigur sev samaavaigo ||1|| rahaau ||
The more you chant and meditate, the more you will be at peace; serve the True Guru, and merge in the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਲੋਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
bhagat janaa(n) kee khin khin lochaa naam japat sukh paavaigo ||
Each and every instant, the humble devotees long for Him; chanting the Naam, they find peace.
ਅਨ ਰਸ ਸਾਦ ਗਏ ਸਭ ਨੀਕਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
an ras saadh ge sabh neekar bin naavai kichh na sukhaavaigo ||1||
The taste of other pleasures is totally eradicated; nothing pleases them, except the Name. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੀਠੇ ਬਚਨ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
gurmat har har meeThaa laagaa gur meeThe bachan kaddaavaigo ||
Following the Guru's Teachings, the Lord seems sweet to them; the Guru inspires them to speak sweet words.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
satigur baanee purakh purakhotam baanee siau chit laavaigo ||2||
Through the Word of the True Guru's Bani, the Primal Lord God is revealed; so focus your consciousness on His Bani. ||2||
ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਨਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਵਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
gurbaanee sunat meraa man dhraviaa man bheenaa nij ghar aavaigo ||
Hearing the Word of the Guru's Bani, my mind has been softened and saturated with it; my mind has returned to its own home deep within.
ਤਹ ਅਨਹਤ ਧੁਨੀ ਬਾਜਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਬਾਜੇ ਨੀਝਰ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
teh anahat dhunee baajeh nit baaje neejhar dhaar chuaavaigo ||3||
The Unstruck Melody resonates and resounds there continuously; the stream of nectar trickles down constantly. ||3||
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲ ਤਿਲ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
raam naam ik til til gaavai man gurmat naam samaavaigo ||
Singing the Name of the One Lord each and every instant, and following the Guru's Teachings, the mind is absorbed in the Naam.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
naam sunai naamo man bhaavai naame hee tirapataavaigo ||4||
Listening to the Naam, the mind is pleased with the Naam, and satisfied with the Naam. ||4||
ਕਨਿਕ ਕਨਿਕ ਪਹਿਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਕੰਗਨਾ ਕਾਪਰੁ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਨਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
kanik kanik pahire bahu ka(n)ganaa kaapar bhaa(n)t banaavaigo ||
People wear lots of bracelets, glittering with gold; they wear all sorts of fine clothes.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭਿ ਫੀਕ ਫਿਕਾਨੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
naam binaa sabh feek fikaane janam marai fir aavaigo ||5||
But without the Naam, they are all bland and insipid. They are born, only to die again, in the cycle of reincarnation. ||5||
ਮਾਇਆ ਪਟਲ ਪਟਲ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ਘਰੁ ਘੂਮਨਿ ਘੇਰਿ ਘੁਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
maiaa paTal paTal hai bhaaree ghar ghooman gher ghulaavaigo ||
The veil of Maya is a thick and heavy veil, a whirlpool which destroys one's home.
ਪਾਪ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨੂਰ ਸਭਿ ਭਾਰੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
paap bikaar manoor sabh bhaare bikh dhutar tario na jaavaigo ||6||
Sins and corrupt vices are totally heavy, like rusted slag. They will not let you cross over the poisonous and treacherous world-ocean. ||6||
ਭਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
bhau bairaag bhiaa hai bohith gur khevaT sabadh taraavaigo ||
Let the Fear of God and neutral detachment be the boat; the Guru is the Boatman, who carries us across in the Word of the Shabad.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
raam naam har bheTeeaai har raamai naam samaavaigo ||7||
Meeting with the Lord, the Name of the Lord, merge in the Lord, the Name of the Lord. ||7||
ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਲਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੈ ਲਾਇ ਜਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
agiaan lai savaaliaa gur giaanai lai jagaavaigo ||
Attached to ignorance, people are falling asleep; attached to the Guru's spiritual wisdom, they awaken.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਾਣੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak bhaanai aapanai jiau bhaavai tivai chalaavaigo ||8||1||
O Nanak, by His Will, He makes us walk as He pleases. ||8||1||

Kaanraa, Fourth Mehla:
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jap man har har naam taraavaigo ||
O mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and be carried across.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਸੋਈ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo jo japai soiee gat paavai jiau dhraoo prahilaadh samaavaigo ||1|| rahaau ||
Whoever chants and meditates on it is emancipated. Like Dhroo and Prahlaad, they merge in the Lord. ||1||Pause||
