ਜੇਨ ਕਲਾ ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੰ ਨਹ ਛੇਦੰਤ ਜਠਰ ਰੋਗਣਹ ॥
jen kalaa maat garabh pratipaala(n) neh chhedha(n)t jaThar roganeh ||
His Power provides nourishment in the womb of the mother, and does not let disease strike.

ten kalaa asatha(n)bha(n) sarovara(n) naanak neh chhija(n)t tara(n)g toyaneh ||53||
His Power holds back the ocean, O Nanak, and does not allow the waves of water to destroy the land. ||53||
ਗੁਸਾਂਈ ਗਰਿਸ੍ਟ ਰੂਪੇਣ ਸਿਮਰਣੰ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਣਹ ॥
gusaa(n)iee garisaT roopen simarana(n) sarabatr jeevaneh ||
The Lord of the World is Supremely Beautiful; His Meditation is the Life of all.
ਲਬਧੵੰ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੇਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਸ੍ਵਛ ਮਾਰਗ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਣਹ ॥੫੪॥
labadhaye(n) sa(n)t sa(n)gen naanak savaichh maarag har bhagataneh ||54||
In the Society of the Saints, O Nanak, He is found on the path of devotional worship of the Lord. ||54||
ਮਸਕੰ ਭਗਨੰਤ ਸੈਲੰ ਕਰਦਮੰ ਤਰੰਤ ਪਪੀਲਕਹ ॥
masaka(n) bhagana(n)t saila(n) karadhama(n) tara(n)t papeelakeh ||
The mosquito pierces the stone, the ant crosses the swamp,
ਸਾਗਰੰ ਲੰਘੰਤਿ ਪਿੰਗੰ ਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਅੰਧਕਹ ॥
saagara(n) la(n)gha(n)t pi(n)ga(n) tam paragaas a(n)dhakeh ||
the cripple crosses the ocean, and the blind sees in the darkness,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੫੫॥
saadh sa(n)gen simara(n)t gobi(n)dh saran naanak har har hare ||55||
meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, Har, Har, Haray. ||55||
ਤਿਲਕ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਬਿਪ੍ਰਾ ਅਮਰ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਰਾਜਨਹ ॥
tilak heena(n) jathaa bipraa amar heena(n) jathaa raajaneh ||
Like a Brahmin without a sacred mark on his forehead, or a king without the power of command,
ਆਵਧ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਥਾ ਸੂਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਰਮ ਹੀਣੰ ਤਥਾ ਬੈਸ੍ਨਵਹ ॥੫੬॥
aavadh heena(n) jathaa sooraa naanak dharam heena(n) tathaa baisanaveh ||56||
or a warrior without weapons, so is the devotee of God without Dharmic Faith. ||56||
ਨ ਸੰਖੰ ਨ ਚਕ੍ਰੰ ਨ ਗਦਾ ਨ ਸਿਆਮੰ ॥
n sa(n)kha(n) na chakara(n) na gadhaa na siaama(n) ||
God has no conch-shell, no religious mark, no paraphernalia; he does not have blue skin.
ਅਸ੍ਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੰ ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ॥
ascharaj roopa(n) raha(n)t janama(n) ||
His Form is Wondrous and Amazing. He is beyond incarnation.
ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਥੰਤਿ ਬੇਦਾ ॥
net net katha(n)t bedhaa ||
The Vedas say that He is not this, and not that.
ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਹ ॥
uooch mooch apaar gobi(n)dheh ||
The Lord of the Universe is Lofty and High, Great and Infinite.
ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਅਚੁਤ ਬੁਝੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗੀਅਹ ॥੫੭॥
basa(n)t saadh ridhaya(n) achut bujha(n)t naanak baddabhaage'eeh ||57||
The Imperishable Lord abides in the hearts of the Holy. He is understood, O Nanak, by those who are very fortunate. ||57||
ਉਦਿਆਨ ਬਸਨੰ ਸੰਸਾਰੰ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਖਰਹ ॥
audhiaan basana(n) sa(n)saara(n) sanaba(n)dhee savaiaan siaal khareh ||
Living in the world, it is like a wild jungle. One's relatives are like dogs, jackals and donkeys.
ਬਿਖਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਦਿਰੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਅਸਾਧ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥
bikham sathaan man moh madhira(n) mahaa(n) asaadh pa(n)ch tasakareh ||
In this difficult place, the mind is intoxicated with the wine of emotional attachment; the five unconquered thieves lurk there.
ਹੀਤ ਮੋਹ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੰ ਅਹੰ ਫਾਂਸ ਤੀਖੵਣ ਕਠਿਨਹ ॥
heet moh bhai bharam bhramana(n) aha(n) faa(n)s teekhayen kaThineh ||
The mortals wander lost in love and emotional attachment, fear and doubt; they are caught in the sharp, strong noose of egotism.
ਪਾਵਕ ਤੋਅ ਅਸਾਧ ਘੋਰੰ ਅਗਮ ਤੀਰ ਨਹ ਲੰਘਨਹ ॥
paavak toa asaadh ghora(n) agam teer neh la(n)ghaneh ||
The ocean of fire is terrifying and impassable. The distant shore is so far away; it cannot be reached.
ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਉਧਰਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ॥੫੮॥
bhaj saadhasa(n)g guopaal naanak har charan saran udharan kirapaa ||58||
Vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the World, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; O Nanak, by His Grace, we are saved at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||58||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲਹ ਸਗਲੵੰ ਰੋਗ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
kirapaa kara(n)t gobi(n)dh gopaaleh sagalaye(n) rog kha(n)ddaneh ||
When the Lord of the Universe grants His Grace, all illnesses are cured.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗੇਣਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਹ ॥੫੯॥
saadh sa(n)gen gun ramat naanak saran pooran paramesureh ||59||
Nanak chants His Glorious Praises in the Saadh Sangat, in the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord God. ||59||
ਸਿਆਮਲੰ ਮਧੁਰ ਮਾਨੁਖੵੰ ਰਿਦਯੰ ਭੂਮਿ ਵੈਰਣਹ ॥
siaamala(n) madhur maanukhaye(n) ridhaya(n) bhoom vairaneh ||
The mortal is beautiful and speaks sweet words, but in the farm of his heart, he harbors cruel vengeance.
ਨਿਵੰਤਿ ਹੋਵੰਤਿ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਚੇਤਨੰ ਸੰਤ ਸ੍ਵਜਨਹ ॥੬੦॥
niva(n)t hova(n)t mithiaa chetana(n) sa(n)t savaijaneh ||60||
He pretends to bow in worship, but he is false. Beware of him, O friendly Saints. ||60||
ਅਚੇਤ ਮੂੜਾ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਤ ਘਟੰਤ ਸਾਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਤੇ ॥
achet mooRaa na jaana(n)t ghaTa(n)t saasaa nit prate ||
The thoughtless fool does not know that each day, his breaths are being used up.
ਛਿਜੰਤ ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕਾਲ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਤੇ ॥
chhija(n)t mahaa su(n)dharee kaa(n)iaa kaal ka(n)niaa graasate ||
His most beautiful body is wearing away; old age, the daughter of death, has seized it.
ਰਚੰਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਨੋਦ ॥
racha(n)t purakheh kuTa(n)b leelaa anit aasaa bikhiaa binodh ||
He is engrossed in family play; placing his hopes in transitory things, he indulges in corrupt pleasures.
ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੰਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮਯਹ ॥੬੧॥
bhrama(n)t bhrama(n)t bahu janam haario saran naanak karunaa mayeh ||61||
Wandering lost in countless incarnations, he is exhausted. Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Embodiment of Mercy. ||61||
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਬੇ ਹੇ ਰਸਗੇ ਮਧੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਤੁਯੰ ॥
he jihabe he rasage madhur pria tuya(n) ||
O tongue, you love to enjoy the sweet delicacies.
ਸਤ ਹਤੰ ਪਰਮ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਵਰਤ ਏਥਹ ਸੁਧ ਅਛਰਣਹ ॥
sat hata(n) param baadha(n) avarat etheh sudh achharaneh ||
You are dead to the Truth, and involved in great disputes. Instead, repeat the holy words:
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧਵੇ ॥੬੨॥
gobi(n)dh dhaamodhar maadhave ||62||
Gobind, Daamodar, Maadhav. ||62||
ਗਰਬੰਤਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਦੋਨ ਮਤੰ ॥
garaba(n)t naaree madhon mata(n) ||
Those who are proud, and intoxicated with the pleasures of sex,
ਬਲਵੰਤ ਬਲਾਤ ਕਾਰਣਹ ॥
balava(n)t balaat kaaraneh ||
and asserting their power over others,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਹ ਭਜੰਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜਨਮਨਹ ॥
charan kamal neh bhaja(n)t tiran samaan dhirag janamaneh ||
never contemplate the Lord's Lotus Feet. Their lives are cursed, and as worthless as straw.
ਹੇ ਪਪੀਲਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਟੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਯੰ ਧਨੇ ॥
he papeelakaa grasaTe gobi(n)dh simaran tuya(n) dhane ||
You are as tiny and insignificant as an ant, but you shall become great, by the Wealth of the Lord's Meditation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਹ ॥੬੩॥
naanak anik baar namo nameh ||63||
Nanak bows in humble worship, countless times, over and over again. ||63||
ਤ੍ਰਿਣੰ ਤ ਮੇਰੰ ਸਹਕੰ ਤ ਹਰੀਅੰ ॥
tirana(n) ta mera(n) sahaka(n) ta hareea(n) ||
The blade of grass becomes a mountain, and the barren land becomes green.
ਬੂਡੰ ਤ ਤਰੀਅੰ ਊਣੰ ਤ ਭਰੀਅੰ ॥
boodda(n) ta tareea(n) uoona(n) ta bhareea(n) ||
The drowning one swims across, and the empty is filled to overflowing.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰੰ ॥
a(n)dhakaar koT soor ujaara(n) ||
Millions of suns illuminate the darkness,
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਰੰ ॥੬੪॥
binava(n)t naanak har gur dhayaara(n) ||64||
prays Nanak, when the Guru, the Lord, becomes Merciful. ||64||
