Pauree:
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਹ ਰਚਹੁ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
re man bin har jeh rachahu teh teh ba(n)dhan paeh ||
O mind: without the Lord, whatever you are involved in shall bind you in chains.
ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇਊ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
jeh bidh katahoo na chhooTeeaai saakat teuoo kamaeh ||
The faithless cynic does those deeds which will never allow him to be emancipated.
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਰਤ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਭਾਰੁ ਅਫਾਰ ॥
hau hau karate karam rat taa ko bhaar afaar ||
Acting in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the lovers of rituals carry the unbearable load.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਉ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਤਉ ਏਊ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
preet nahee jau naam siau tau euoo karam bikaar ||
When there is no love for the Naam, then these rituals are corrupt.
ਬਾਧੇ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ॥
baadhe jam kee jevaree meeThee maiaa ra(n)g ||
The rope of death binds those who are in love with the sweet taste of Maya.
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਮੋਹੇ ਨਹ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਹੂ ਸੰਗ ॥
bhram ke mohe neh bujheh so prabh sadhahoo sa(n)g ||
Deluded by doubt, they do not understand that God is always with them.
ਲੇਖੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਕਾਚੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਨ ਸੁਧਿ ॥
lekhai ganat na chhooTeeaai kaachee bheet na sudh ||
When their accounts are called for, they shall not be released; their wall of mud cannot be washed clean.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਹ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੁਧਿ ॥੯॥
jiseh bujhaae naanakaa teh gurmukh niramal budh ||9||
One who is made to understand - O Nanak, that Gurmukh obtains immaculate understanding. ||9||

Shalok:
ਟੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜਾਸੁ ਕੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
TooTe ba(n)dhan jaas ke hoaa saadhoo sa(n)g ||
One whose bonds are cut away joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੂੜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
jo raate ra(n)g ek kai naanak gooRaa ra(n)g ||1||
Those who are imbued with the Love of the One Lord, O Nanak, take on the deep and lasting color of His Love. ||1||

Pauree:
ਰਾਰਾ ਰੰਗਹੁ ਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
raaraa ra(n)gahu iaa man apanaa ||
RARRA: Dye this heart of yours in the color of the Lord's Love.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ॥
har har naam japahu jap rasanaa ||
Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har - chant it with your tongue.
ਰੇ ਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
re re dharageh kahai na kouoo ||
In the Court of the Lord, no one shall speak harshly to you.
ਆਉ ਬੈਠੁ ਆਦਰੁ ਸੁਭ ਦੇਊ ॥
aau baiTh aadhar subh dheuoo ||
Everyone shall welcome you, saying, ""Come, and sit down.""
ਉਆ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂ ਬਾਸਾ ॥
auaa mahalee paaveh too baasaa ||
In that Mansion of the Lord's Presence, you shall find a home.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਹ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
janam maran neh hoi binaasaa ||
There is no birth or death, or destruction there.
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਧੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
masatak karam likhio dhur jaa kai ||
One who has such karma written on his forehead,
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥੧੦॥
har sa(n)pai naanak ghar taa kai ||10||
O Nanak, has the wealth of the Lord in his home. ||10||

ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਧ ॥
laalach jhooTh bikaar moh biaapat mooRe a(n)dh ||
Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment entangle the blind and the foolish.
ਲਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧ ॥੧॥
laag pare dhuraga(n)dh siau naanak maiaa ba(n)dh ||1||
Bound down by Maya, O Nanak, a foul odor clings to them. ||1||

ਲਲਾ ਲਪਟਿ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
lalaa lapaT bikhai ras raate ||
LALLA: People are entangled in the love of corrupt pleasures;
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
aha(n)budh maiaa madh maate ||
they are drunk with the wine of egotistical intellect and Maya.
ਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਨਾ ॥
eiaa maiaa meh janameh maranaa ||
In this Maya, they are born and die.
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
jiau jiau hukam tivai tiau karanaa ||
People act according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.
ਕੋਊ ਊਨ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
kouoo uoon na kouoo pooraa ||
No one is perfect, and no one is imperfect.
ਕੋਊ ਸੁਘਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਮੂਰਾ ॥
kouoo sughar na kouoo mooraa ||
No one is wise, and no one is foolish.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਨਾ ॥
jit jit laavahu tit tit laganaa ||
Wherever the Lord engages someone, there he is engaged.
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
naanak Thaakur sadhaa alipanaa ||11||
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is forever detached. ||11||

ਲਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਥਾਹ ॥
laal gupaal gobi(n)dh prabh gahir ga(n)bheer athaeh ||
My Beloved God, the Sustainer of the World, the Lord of the Universe, is deep, profound and unfathomable.
ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ॥੧॥
dhoosar naahee avar ko naanak beparavaeh ||1||
There is no other like Him; O Nanak, He is not worried. ||1||

Pauree:
ਲਲਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥
lalaa taa kai lavai na kouoo ||
LALLA: There is no one equal to Him.
ਏਕਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਅਵਰ ਨਹ ਹੋਊ ॥
ekeh aap avar neh houoo ||
He Himself is the One; there shall never be any other.
ਹੋਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਸਦ ਆਇਆ ॥
hovanahaar hot sadh aaiaa ||
He is now, He has been, and He shall always be.
ਉਆ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
auaa kaa a(n)t na kaahoo paiaa ||
No one has ever found His limit.
ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੂਰ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
keeT hasat meh poor samaane ||
In the ant and in the elephant, He is totally pervading.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਠਾਊ ਜਾਨੇ ॥
pragaT purakh sabh Thaauoo jaane ||
The Lord, the Primal Being, is known by everyone everywhere.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
jaa kau dheeno har ras apanaa ||
That one, unto whom the Lord has given His Love
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧੨॥
naanak gurmukh har har teh japanaa ||12||
- O Nanak, that Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||12||

Shalok:
ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਣੁ ॥
aatam ras jeh jaaniaa har ra(n)g sahaje maan ||
One who knows the taste of the Lord's sublime essence, intuitively enjoys the Lord's Love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
naanak dhan dhan dha(n)n jan aae te paravaan ||1||
O Nanak, blessed, blessed, blessed are the Lord's humble servants; how fortunate is their coming into the world! ||1||

Pauree:
ਆਇਆ ਸਫਲ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਗਨੀਐ ॥
aaiaa safal taahoo ko ganeeaai ||
How fruitful is the coming into the world, of those
ਜਾਸੁ ਰਸਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਭਨੀਐ ॥
jaas rasan har har jas bhaneeaai ||
whose tongues celebrate the Praises of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਆਇ ਬਸਹਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
aai baseh saadhoo kai sa(n)ge ||
They come and dwell with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy;
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਰੰਗੇ ॥
anadhin naam dhiaaveh ra(n)ge ||
night and day, they lovingly meditate on the Naam.
ਆਵਤ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
aavat so jan naameh raataa ||
Blessed is the birth of those humble beings who are attuned to the Naam;
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
jaa kau dhiaa miaa bidhaataa ||
the Lord, the Architect of Destiny, bestows His Kind Mercy upon them.
ਏਕਹਿ ਆਵਨ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
ekeh aavan fir jon na aaiaa ||
They are born only once - they shall not be reincarnated again.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
naanak har kai dharas samaiaa ||13||
O Nanak, they are absorbed into the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. ||13||

ਯਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੧॥
yaas japat man hoi ana(n)dh binasai dhoojaa bhaau || dhookh dharadh tirasanaa bujhai naanak naam samaau ||1||
Chanting it, the mind is filled with bliss; love of duality is eliminated, and pain, distress and desires are quenched. O Nanak, immerse yourself in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
