ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ਕੀ ਜਾਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
traas miTai jam pa(n)th kee jaas basai man naau ||
One whose heart is filled with the Name shall have no fear on the path of death.
ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥
gat paaveh mat hoi pragaas mahalee paaveh Thaau ||
He shall obtain salvation, and his intellect shall be enlightened; he will find his place in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.
ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਧਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਬਨ ਨਹ ਰਾਜ ॥
taahoo sa(n)g na dhan chalai gireh joban neh raaj ||
Neither wealth, nor household, nor youth, nor power shall go along with you.
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹੁ ਇਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਕਾਜ ॥
sa(n)tasa(n)g simarat rahahu ihai tuhaarai kaaj ||
In the Society of the Saints, meditate in remembrance on the Lord. This alone shall be of use to you.
ਤਾਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਉ ਤਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਆਪ ॥
taataa kachhoo na hoiee hai jau taap nivaarai aap ||
There will be no burning at all, when He Himself takes away your fever.
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮਹਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੩੨॥
pratipaalai naanak hameh aapeh maiee baap ||32||
O Nanak, the Lord Himself cherishes us; He is our Mother and Father. ||32||

Shalok:
ਥਾਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਾਲਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥ ॥
thaake bahu bidh ghaalate tirapat na tirasanaa laath ||
They have grown weary, struggling in all sorts of ways; but they are not satisfied, and their thirst is not quenched.
ਸੰਚਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
sa(n)ch sa(n)ch saakat mooe naanak maiaa na saath ||1||
Gathering in and hoarding what they can, the faithless cynics die, O Nanak, but the wealth of Maya does not go with them in the end. ||1||

ਥਥਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਊ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਇ ਪਸਾਰਹੁ ਪਾਵ ॥
thathaa thir kouoo nahee kai pasaarahu paav ||
T'HAT'HA: Nothing is permanent - why do you stretch out your feet?
ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਚ ਬਲ ਛਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਵ ॥
anik ba(n)ch bal chhal karahu maiaa ek upaav ||
You commit so many fraudulent and deceitful actions as you chase after Maya.
ਥੈਲੀ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਥਾਕਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
thailee sa(n)chahu sram karahu thaak parahu gaavaar ||
You work to fill up your bag, you fool, and then you fall down exhausted.
ਮਨ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅੰਤੇ ਅਉਸਰ ਬਾਰ ॥
man kai kaam na aaviee a(n)te aausar baar ||
But this shall be of no use to you at all at that very last instant.
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
thit paavahu gobidh bhajahu sa(n)teh kee sikh leh ||
You shall find stability only by vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe, and accepting the Teachings of the Saints.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸਨੇਹੁ ॥
preet karahu sadh ek siau iaa saachaa asaneh ||
Embrace love for the One Lord forever - this is true love!
ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਏਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥
kaaran karan karaavano sabh bidh ekai haath ||
He is the Doer, the Cause of causes. All ways and means are in His Hands alone.
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਅਨਾਥ ॥੩੩॥
jit jit laavahu tit tit lageh naanak ja(n)t anaath ||33||
Whatever You attach me to, to that I am attached; O Nanak, I am just a helpless creature. ||33||

ਦਾਸਹ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥
dhaaseh ek nihaariaa sabh kachh dhevanahaar ||
His slaves have gazed upon the One Lord, the Giver of everything.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
saas saas simarat raheh naanak dharas adhaar ||1||
They continue to contemplate Him with each and every breath; O Nanak, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is their Support. ||1||

Pauree:
ਦਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥
dhadhaa dhaataa ek hai sabh kau dhevanahaar ||
DADDA: The One Lord is the Great Giver; He is the Giver to all.
ਦੇਂਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਗਨਤ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
dhe(n)dhe toT na aaviee aganat bhare bha(n)ddaar ||
There is no limit to His Giving. His countless warehouses are filled to overflowing.
ਦੈਨਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
dhainahaar sadh jeevanahaaraa ||
The Great Giver is alive forever.
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਿਉ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਾ ॥
man moorakh kiau taeh bisaaraa ||
O foolish mind, why have you forgotten Him?
ਦੋਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
dhos nahee kaahoo kau meetaa ||
No one is at fault, my friend.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਬੰਧੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
maiaa moh ba(n)dh prabh keetaa ||
God created the bondage of emotional attachment to Maya.
ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੩੪॥
dharadh nivaareh jaa ke aape || naanak te te gurmukh dhraape ||34||
He Himself removes the pains of the Gurmukh; O Nanak, he is fulfilled. ||34||

ਧਰ ਜੀਅਰੇ ਇਕ ਟੇਕ ਤੂ ਲਾਹਿ ਬਿਡਾਨੀ ਆਸ ॥
dhar jeeare ik Tek too laeh biddaanee aas ||
O my soul, grasp the Support of the One Lord; give up your hopes in others.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
naanak naam dhiaaieeaai kaaraj aavai raas ||1||
O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||

ਧਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਤਉ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਾਸੁ ॥
dhadhaa dhaavat tau miTai sa(n)tasa(n)g hoi baas ||
DHADHA: The mind's wanderings cease, when one comes to dwell in the Society of the Saints.
ਧੁਰ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
dhur te kirapaa karahu aap tau hoi maneh paragaas ||
If the Lord is Merciful from the very beginning, then one's mind is enlightened.
ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਤੇਊ ਸਚ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
dhan saachaa teuoo sach saahaa ||
Those who have the true wealth are the true bankers.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਹਾ ॥
har har poo(n)jee naam bisaahaa ||
The Lord, Har, Har, is their wealth, and they trade in His Name.
ਧੀਰਜੁ ਜਸੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਤਿਹ ਬਨਿਆ ॥
dheeraj jas sobhaa teh baniaa ||
Patience, glory and honor come to those
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਜਿਹ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥
har har naam sravan jeh suniaa ||
who listen to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
gurmukh jeh ghaT rahe samaiee ||
That Gurmukh whose heart remains merged with the Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੩੫॥
naanak teh jan milee vaddaiee ||35||
O Nanak, obtains glorious greatness. ||35||
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
naanak naam naam jap japiaa a(n)tar baahar ra(n)g ||
O Nanak, one who chants the Naam, and meditates on the Naam with love inwardly and outwardly,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਰਕੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥੧॥
gur poorai upadhesiaa narak naeh saadhasa(n)g ||1||
receives the Teachings from the Perfect Guru; he joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and does not fall into hell. ||1||

ਨੰਨਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਹੀ ॥
na(n)naa narak pareh te naahee || jaa kai man tan naam basaahee ||
NANNA: Those whose minds and bodies are filled with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall not fall into hell.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਜਪਤੇ ॥
naam nidhaan gurmukh jo japate ||
Those Gurmukhs who chant the treasure of the Naam,
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਖਪਤੇ ॥
bikh maiaa meh naa oi khapate ||
are not destroyed by the poison of Maya.
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਜਾ ਕਹੁ ॥
na(n)naakaar na hotaa taa kahu || naam ma(n)tr gur dheeno jaa kahu ||
Those who have been given the Mantra of the Naam by the Guru, shall not be turned away.
