ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
tirapat na aavai maiaa paachhai paavai ||
Satisfaction is not obtained by chasing after Maya.
ਅਨਿਕ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੇ ਕਰੈ ॥
anik bhog bikhiaa ke karai ||
He may enjoy all sorts of corrupt pleasures,
ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰੈ ॥
neh tirapataavai khap khap marai ||
but he is still not satisfied; he indulges again and again, wearing himself out, until he dies.
ਬਿਨਾ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਰਾਜੈ ॥
binaa sa(n)tokh nahee kouoo raajai ||
Without contentment, no one is satisfied.
ਸੁਪਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਜੈ ॥
supan manorath birathe sabh kaajai ||
Like the objects in a dream, all his efforts are in vain.
ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam ra(n)g sarab sukh hoi ||
Through the love of the Naam, all peace is obtained.
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
baddabhaagee kisai paraapat hoi ||
Only a few obtain this, by great good fortune.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
karan karaavan aape aap ||
He Himself is Himself the Cause of causes.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੫॥
sadhaa sadhaa naanak har jaap ||5||
Forever and ever, O Nanak, chant the Lord's Name. ||5||
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
karan karaavan karanaihaar ||
The Doer, the Cause of causes, is the Creator Lord.
ਇਸ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਕਹਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
eis kai haath kahaa beechaar ||
What deliberations are in the hands of mortal beings?
ਜੈਸੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaisee dhirasaT kare taisaa hoi ||
As God casts His Glance of Grace, they come to be.
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
aape aap aap prabh soi ||
God Himself, of Himself, is unto Himself.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੁ ਅਪਨੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
jo kichh keeno su apanai ra(n)g ||
Whatever He created, was by His Own Pleasure.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ਸਭਹੂ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
sabh te dhoor sabhahoo kai sa(n)g ||
He is far from all, and yet with all.
ਬੂਝੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
boojhai dhekhai karai bibek ||
He understands, He sees, and He passes judgment.
ਆਪਹਿ ਏਕ ਆਪਹਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
aapeh ek aapeh anek ||
He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the many.
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
marai na binasai aavai na jai ||
He does not die or perish; He does not come or go.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥
naanak sadh hee rahiaa samai ||6||
O Nanak, He remains forever All-pervading. ||6||
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਸਮਝੈ ਆਪਿ ॥
aap upadhesai samajhai aap ||
He Himself instructs, and He Himself learns.
ਆਪੇ ਰਚਿਆ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
aape rachiaa sabh kai saath ||
He Himself mingles with all.
ਆਪਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਆਪਨ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
aap keeno aapan bisathaar ||
He Himself created His own expanse.
ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥
sabh kachh us kaa oh karanaihaar ||
All things are His; He is the Creator.
ਉਸ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
aus te bhi(n)n kahahu kichh hoi ||
Without Him, what could be done?
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
thaan thana(n)tar ekai soi ||
In the spaces and interspaces, He is the One.
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਚਲਿਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰ ॥
apune chalit aap karanaihaar ||
In His own play, He Himself is the Actor.
ਕਉਤਕ ਕਰੈ ਰੰਗ ਆਪਾਰ ॥
kautak karai ra(n)g aapaar ||
He produces His plays with infinite variety.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
man meh aap man apune maeh ||
He Himself is in the mind, and the mind is in Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
naanak keemat kahan na jai ||7||
O Nanak, His worth cannot be estimated. ||7||
ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
sat sat sat prabh suaamee ||
True, True, True is God, our Lord and Master.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਖਿਆਨੀ ॥
gur parasaadh kinai vakhiaanee ||
By Guru's Grace, some speak of Him.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
sach sach sach sabh keenaa ||
True, True, True is the Creator of all.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਬਿਰਲੈ ਚੀਨਾ ॥
koT madhe kinai biralai cheenaa ||
Out of millions, scarcely anyone knows Him.
ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ॥
bhalaa bhalaa bhalaa teraa roop ||
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful is Your Sublime Form.
ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
at su(n)dhar apaar anoop ||
You are Exquisitely Beautiful, Infinite and Incomparable.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
niramal niramal niramal teree baanee ||
Pure, Pure, Pure is the Word of Your Bani,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੁਨੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਬਖੵਾਣੀ ॥
ghaT ghaT sunee sravan bakhayeaanee ||
heard in each and every heart, spoken to the ears.
ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
pavitr pavitr pavitr puneet ||
Holy, Holy, Holy and Sublimely Pure
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੮॥੧੨॥

One who seeks the Sanctuary of the Saints shall be saved.
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
sa(n)t kee ni(n)dhaa naanakaa bahur bahur avataar ||1||
One who slanders the Saints, O Nanak, shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਆਰਜਾ ਘਟੈ ॥

Slandering the Saints, one's life is cut short.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟੈ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan jam te nahee chhuTai ||
Slandering the Saints, one shall not escape the Messenger of Death.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan sukh sabh jai ||
Slandering the Saints, all happiness vanishes.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan narak meh pai ||
Slandering the Saints, one falls into hell.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਮਲੀਨ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan mat hoi maleen ||
Slandering the Saints, the intellect is polluted.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਤੇ ਹੀਨ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan sobhaa te heen ||
Slandering the Saints, one's reputation is lost.
ਸੰਤ ਕੇ ਹਤੇ ਕਉ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sa(n)t ke hate kau rakhai na koi ||
One who is cursed by a Saint cannot be saved.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਥਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਸਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan thaan bhrasaT hoi ||
Slandering the Saints, one's place is defiled.
ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੈ ॥
sa(n)t kirapaal kirapaa je karai ||
But if the Compassionate Saint shows His Kindness,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਭੀ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥
naanak sa(n)tasa(n)g ni(n)dhak bhee tarai ||1||
O Nanak, in the Company of the Saints, the slanderer may still be saved. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਕੇ ਦੂਖਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਖੁ ਭਵੈ ॥
sa(n)t ke dhookhan te mukh bhavai ||
Slandering the Saints, one becomes a wry-faced malcontent.
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਕਾਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਵੈ ॥
sa(n)tan kai dhookhan kaag jiau lavai ||
Slandering the Saints, one croaks like a raven.
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸਰਪ ਜੋਨਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
sa(n)tan kai dhookhan sarap jon pai ||
Slandering the Saints, one is reincarnated as a snake.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਿਰਮਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan tiragadh jon kiramai ||
Slandering the Saints, one is reincarnated as a wiggling worm.
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਲੈ ॥
sa(n)tan kai dhookhan tirasanaa meh jalai ||
Slandering the Saints, one burns in the fire of desire.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਛਲੈ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan sabh ko chhalai ||
Slandering the Saints, one tries to deceive everyone.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਤੇਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan tej sabh jai ||
Slandering the Saints, all one's influence vanishes.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਨੀਚਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t kai dhookhan neech neechai ||
Slandering the Saints, one becomes the lowest of the low.
ਸੰਤ ਦੋਖੀ ਕਾ ਥਾਉ ਕੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
sa(n)t dhokhee kaa thaau ko naeh ||
For the slanderer of the Saint, there is no place of rest.
