ਜਿਨਾ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਧਾਨ ॥
jinaa saas giraas na visarai se poore purakh paradhaan ||
Those who do not forget the Lord, with each and every breath and morsel of food, are the perfect and famous persons.
ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਗੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
karamee satigur paieeaai anadhin lagai dhiaan ||
By His Grace they find the True Guru; night and day, they meditate.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
tin kee sa(n)gat mil rahaa dharageh paiee maan ||
I join the society of those persons, and in so doing, I am honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਉਦੇ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਉਠਦੇ ਭੀ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥
saudhe vaahu vaahu uchareh uThadhe bhee vaahu karen ||
While asleep, they chant, ""Waaho! Waaho!"", and while awake, they chant, ""Waaho!"" as well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਜਿ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਸੰਮਾਲੇਨਿ ॥੧॥
naanak te mukh ujale j nit uTh sa(n)maalen ||1||
O Nanak, radiant are the faces of those, who rise up early each day, and dwell upon the Lord. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
satigur seveeaai aapanaa paieeaai naam apaar ||
Serving his True Guru, one obtains the Naam, the Name of the Infinite Lord.
ਭਉਜਲਿ ਡੁਬਦਿਆ ਕਢਿ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
bhaujal ddubadhiaa kadd le har dhaat kare dhaataar ||
The drowning person is lifted up and out of the terrifying world-ocean; the Great Giver gives the gift of the Lord's Name.
ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇ ਸਾਹ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
dha(n)n dha(n)n se saeh hai j naam kareh vaapaar ||
Blessed, blessed are those bankers who trade the Naam.
ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਸਿਖ ਆਵਦੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਘਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
vanajaare sikh aavadhe sabadh laghaavanahaar ||
The Sikhs, the traders come, and through the Word of His Shabad, they are carried across.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਈ ਤਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jan naanak jin kau kirapaa bhiee tin seviaa sirajanahaar ||2||
O servant Nanak, they alone serve the Creator Lord, who are blessed by His Grace. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਭਗਤ ਹਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ॥
sach sache ke jan bhagat heh sach sachaa jinee araadhiaa ||
Those who truly worship and adore the True Lord, are truly the humble devotees of the True Lord.
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਢੰਢੋਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਧਿਆ ॥
jin gurmukh khoj dda(n)ddoliaa tin a(n)dharahu hee sach laadhiaa ||
Those Gurmukhs who search and seek, find the True One within themselves.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਤਿਨੀ ਸਾਧਿਆ ॥
sach saahib sach jinee seviaa kaal ka(n)Tak maar tinee saadhiaa ||
Those who truly serve their True Lord and Master, overwhelm and conquer Death, the torturer.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਭ ਦੂ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਲਾਧਿਆ ॥
sach sachaa sabh dhoo vaddaa hai sach sevan se sach ralaadhiaa ||
The True One is truly the greatest of all; those who serve the True One are blended with the True One.
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਫਲਾਧਿਆ ॥੨੨॥
sach sache no saabaas hai sach sachaa sev falaadhiaa ||22||
Blessed and acclaimed is the Truest of the True; serving the Truest of the True, one blossoms forth in fruition. ||22||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥

Shalok, Fourth Mehla:
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥
manmukh praanee mugadh hai naamaheen bharamai ||
The self-willed manmukh is foolish; he wanders around without the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
bin gur manooaa naa Tikai fir fir joonee pai ||
Without the Guru, his mind is not held steady, and he is reincarnated, over and over again.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
har prabh aap dhiaal hoh taa(n) satigur miliaa aai ||
But when the Lord God Himself becomes merciful to him, then the True Guru comes to meet him.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
jan naanak naam salaeh too janam maran dhukh jai ||1||
O servant Nanak, praise the Naam; the pains of birth and death shall come to an end. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gur saalaahee aapanaa bahu bidh ra(n)g subhai ||
I praise my Guru in so many ways, with joyful love and affection.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇ ॥
satigur setee man rataa rakhiaa banat banai ||
My mind is imbued with the True Guru; He has preserved the make of its making.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
jihavaa saalaeh na rajiee har preetam chit lai ||
My tongue is not satisfied by praising Him; He has linked my consciousness with the Lord, my Beloved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak naavai kee man bhukh hai man tirapatai har ras khai ||2||
O Nanak, my mind hungers for the Name of the Lord; my mind is satisfied, tasting the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਣਾਈਆ ॥
sach sachaa kudharat jaaneeaai dhin raatee jin banaieeaa ||
The True Lord is truly known for His all-powerful creative nature; He fashioned the days and the nights.
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥
so sach salaahee sadhaa sadhaa sach sache keeaa vaddiaaieeaa ||
I praise that True Lord, forever and ever; True is the glorious greatness of the True Lord.
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥
saalaahee sach salaeh sach sach keemat kinai na paieeaa ||
True are the Praises of the Praiseworthy True Lord; the value of the True Lord cannot be appraised.
ਜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤਾ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਈਆ ॥
jaa miliaa pooraa satiguroo taa haajar nadharee aaieeaa ||
When someone meets the Perfect True Guru, then His Sublime Presence comes to be seen.
ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਭੁਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ॥੨੩॥
sach gurmukh jinee salaahiaa tinaa bhukhaa sabh gavaieeaa ||23||
Those Gurmukhs who praise the True Lord - all their hunger is gone. ||23||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥
salok mahalaa chauthhaa ||
Shalok, Fourth Mehla:
ਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜੇਦਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਧਾ ਲੋੜਿ ॥
mai man tan khoj khojedhiaa so prabh ladhaa loR ||
Searching and examining my mind and body, I have found that God, whom I longed for.
ਵਿਸਟੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਜੋੜਿ ॥੧॥
visaT guroo mai paiaa jin har prabh dhitaa joR ||1||
I have found the Guru, the Divine Intermediary, who has united me with the Lord God. ||1||
ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Third Mehla:
ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ਅਤਿ ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
maiaadhaaree at a(n)naa bolaa ||
One who is attached to Maya is totally blind and deaf.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਬਹੁ ਰੋਲ ਘਚੋਲਾ ॥
sabadh na suniee bahu rol ghacholaa ||
He does not listen to the Word of the Shabad; he makes a great uproar and tumult.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
gurmukh jaapai sabadh liv lai ||
The Gurmukhs chant and meditate on the Shabad, and lovingly center their consciousness on it.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
har naam sun ma(n)ne har naam samai ||
They hear and believe in the Name of the Lord; they are absorbed in the Name of the Lord.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
jo tis bhaavai su kare karaiaa ||
Whatever pleases God, He causes that to be done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਜਦਾ ਜੰਤੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
naanak vajadhaa ja(n)t vajaiaa ||2||
O Nanak, human beings are the instruments which vibrate as God plays them. ||2||
