ਜੋ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਸੰਦੇ ॥
jo maare tin paarabraham se kisai na sa(n)dhe ||
Those who are struck down by the Supreme Lord God do not belong to anyone.
ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਨਿ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਰਮਿ ਨਿਆਇ ਪਚੰਦੇ ॥
vair karan niravair naal dharam niaai pacha(n)dhe ||
Those who hate the One who has no hatred, are destroyed by righteous justice.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੰਤਿ ਸਰਾਪਿਆ ਸੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥
jo jo sa(n)t saraapiaa se fireh bhava(n)dhe ||
Those who are cursed by the Saints wander around lost.
ਪੇਡੁ ਮੁੰਢਾਹੂ ਕਟਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਡਾਲ ਸੁਕੰਦੇ ॥੩੧॥
pedd mu(n)ddaahoo kaTiaa tis ddaal suka(n)dhe ||31||
When the tree is cut off at its roots, the branches wither and die. ||31||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
gur naanak har naam dhiraRaiaa bha(n)nan ghaRan samarath ||
Guru Nanak implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; He is All-powerful, to create and destroy.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੂ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਲਥੁ ॥੧॥
prabh sadhaa samaaleh mitr too dhukh sabaiaa lath ||1||
Remember God forever, my friend, and all your suffering will disappear. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:
ਖੁਧਿਆਵੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਲਾਜ ਕੁਲਾਜ ਕੁਬੋਲੁ ॥
khudhiaava(n)t na jaaniee laaj kulaaj kubol ||
The hungry person does not care about honor, dishonor or harsh words.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
naanak maa(n)gai naam har kar kirapaa sa(n)jog ||2||
Nanak begs for the Name of the Lord; please grant Your Grace, and unite me with Yourself. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜੇਵੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦਾ ਤੇਵੇਹੇ ਫਲਤੇ ॥
jevehe karam kamaavadhaa tevehe falate ||
According to the deeds which one does, so are the fruits one obtains.
ਚਬੇ ਤਤਾ ਲੋਹ ਸਾਰੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੰਘੈ ਪਲਤੇ ॥
chabe tataa loh saar vich sa(n)ghai palate ||
If someone chews on red-hot iron, his throat will be burned.
ਘਤਿ ਗਲਾਵਾਂ ਚਾਲਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੂਤਿ ਅਮਲ ਤੇ ॥
ghat galaavaa(n) chaaliaa tin dhoot amal te ||
The halter is put around his neck and he is led away, because of the evil deeds he has done.
ਕਾਈ ਆਸ ਨ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਪਰ ਮਲੁ ਹਿਰਤੇ ॥
kaiee aas na pu(n)neeaa nit par mal hirate ||
None of his desires are fulfilled; he continually steals the filth of others.
ਕੀਆ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਤੇ ॥
keeaa na jaanai akirataghan vich jonee firate ||
The ungrateful wretch does not appreciate what he has been given; he wanders lost in reincarnation.
ਸਭੇ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਨਿਖੁਟੀਅਸੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈਅਸੁ ਧਰ ਤੇ ॥
sabhe dhiraa(n) nikhuTeeas hir lieeas dhar te ||
He loses all support, when the Support of the Lord is taken away from him.
ਵਿਝਣ ਕਲਹ ਨ ਦੇਵਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਲਇਆ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
vijhan kaleh na dhevadhaa taa(n) liaa karate ||
He does not let the embers of strife die down, and so the Creator destroys him.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਤੇ ਅਹੰਮੇਉ ਝੜਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਪੜਤੇ ॥੩੨॥
jo jo karate aha(n)meau jhaR dharatee paRate ||32||
Those who indulge in egotism crumble and fall to the ground. ||32||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmukh giaan bibek budh hoi ||
The Gurmukh is blessed with spiritual wisdom and a discerning intellect.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਾਰੁ ਪਰੋਇ ॥
har gun gaavai hiradhai haar paroi ||
He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and weaves this garland into his heart.
ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
pavit paavan param beechaaree ||
He becomes the purest of the pure, a being of supreme understanding.
ਜਿ ਓਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥
j os milai tis paar utaaree ||
Whoever he meets, he saves and carries across.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
a(n)tar har naam baasanaa samaanee ||
The fragrance of the Lord's Name permeates his being deep within.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਾ ਉਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
har dhar sobhaa mahaa utam baanee ||
He is honored in the Court of the Lord, and his speech is the most sublime.
ਜਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਣੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
j purakh sunai su hoi nihaal ||
Those who hear him are delighted.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥੧॥
naanak satigur miliaai paiaa naam dhan maal ||1||
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one obtains the wealth and property of the Naam. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
satigur ke jeea kee saar na jaapai k poorai satigur bhaavai ||
The sublime state of the True Guru is not known; no one knows what pleases the Perfect True Guru.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਖੁਸੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
gursikhaa(n) a(n)dhar satiguroo varatai jo sikhaa(n) no lochai so gur khusee aavai ||
Deep within the hearts of His GurSikhs, the True Guru is pervading. The Guru is pleased with those who long for His Sikhs.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਨਿ ਸੁ ਜਪੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਕੀ ਘਾਲ ਸਚਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
satigur aakhai su kaar kamaavan su jap kamaaveh gursikhaa(n) kee ghaal sachaa thai paavai ||
As the True Guru directs them, they do their work and chant their prayers. The True Lord accepts the service of His GurSikhs.
ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਕੰਮੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਲੋੜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
vin satigur ke hukamai j gursikhaa(n) paasahu ka(n)m karaiaa loRe tis gursikh fir neR na aavai ||
But those who want the GurSikhs to work for them, without the Order of the True Guru - the Guru's Sikhs shall not come near them again.
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਗੈ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਇ ਘਾਲੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
gur satigur agai ko jeeau lai ghaalai tis agai gursikh kaar kamaavai ||
One who works diligently for the Guru, the True Guru - the GurSikhs work for him.
ਜਿ ਠਗੀ ਆਵੈ ਠਗੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
j Thagee aavai Thagee uTh jai tis neRai gursikh mool na aavai ||
One who comes to deceive, who rises up and goes out to deceive - the GurSikhs shall never come near him.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥
braham beechaar naanak aakh sunaavai ||
Nanak proclaims and announces this wisdom of God.
ਜਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਕੰਮੁ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋ ਜੰਤੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
j vin satigur ke man ma(n)ne ka(n)m karaae so ja(n)t mahaa dhukh paavai ||2||
One who is not pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru may do his deeds, but that being will only suffer in terrible pain. ||2||

Pauree:
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਤੁਹਿ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਤੂੰ ਵਡ ਵਡੇ ॥
too(n) sachaa saahib at vaddaa tuh jevadd too(n) vadd vadde ||
O True Lord and Master, You are so very great. As great as You are, You are the greatest of the great.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਸੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਛਡੇ ॥
jis too(n) meleh so tudh milai too(n) aape bakhas laih lekhaa chhadde ||
He alone is united with You, whom You unite with Yourself. You Yourself bless and forgive us, and tear up our accounts.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਗਡ ਗਡੇ ॥
jis no too(n) aap milaidhaa so satigur seve man gadd gadde ||
One whom You unite with Yourself, whole-heartedly serves the True Guru.
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤੂ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਚੰਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਡੇ ॥
too(n) sachaa saahib sach too sabh jeeau pi(n)dd cha(n)m teraa hadde ||
You are the True One, the True Lord and Master; my soul, body, flesh and bones are all Yours.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡ ਵਡੇ ॥੩੩॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥
jiau bhaavai tiau rakh too(n) sachiaa naanak man aas teree vadd vadde ||33||1|| sudh ||
If it pleases You, then save me, True Lord. Nanak places the hopes of his mind in You alone, O greatest of the great! ||33||1|| Sudh||
