ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥੨॥

naanak raam naam dhan keetaa poore gur parasaadh ||2||

Nanak has made the Lord's Name his wealth, by the Grace of the Perfect Guru. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਧੋਹੁ ਨ ਚਲੀ ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲਿ ਲਬਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ॥

dhoh na chalee khasam naal lab moh vigute ||

Deception does not work with our Lord and Master; through their greed and emotional attachment, people are ruined.

ਕਰਤਬ ਕਰਨਿ ਭਲੇਰਿਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤੇ ॥

karatab karan bhaleriaa madh maiaa sute ||

They do their evil deeds, and sleep in the intoxication of Maya.

ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਨਿ ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੁਤੇ ॥

fir fir joon bhavaieean jam maarag mute ||

Time and time again, they are consigned to reincarnation, and abandoned on the path of Death.

ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁਖ ਸੇਤੀ ਜੁਤੇ ॥

keetaa pain aapanaa dhukh setee jute ||

They receive the consequences of their own actions, and are yoked to their pain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਸਭ ਮੰਦੀ ਰੁਤੇ ॥੧੨॥

naanak nai visaariaai sabh ma(n)dhee rute ||12||

O Nanak, if one forgets the Name, all the seasons are evil. ||12||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

salok mahalaa panjavaa ||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਉਠੰਦਿਆ ਬਹੰਦਿਆ ਸਵੰਦਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

auTha(n)dhiaa baha(n)dhiaa sava(n)dhiaa sukh soi ||

While standing up, sitting down and sleeping, be at peace;

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਲਾਹਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

naanak naam salaahiaai man tan seetal hoi ||1||

O Nanak, praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind and body are cooled and soothed. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:

ਲਾਲਚਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਸੁਆਰਥੁ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

laalach aTiaa nit firai suaarath kare na koi ||

Filled with greed, he constantly wanders around; he does not do any good deeds.

ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

jis gur bheTai naanakaa tis man vasiaa soi ||2||

O Nanak, the Lord abides within the mind of one who meets with the Guru. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਸਭੇ ਵਸਤੂ ਕਉੜੀਆ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਉ ਮਿਠਾ ॥

sabhe vasatoo kauReeaa sache naau miThaa ||

All material things are bitter; the True Name alone is sweet.

ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਚਖਿ ਸਾਧੀ ਡਿਠਾ ॥

saadh aaiaa tin har janaa(n) chakh saadhee ddiThaa ||

Those humble servants of the Lord who taste it, come to savor its flavor.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਵੁਠਾ ॥

paarabraham jis likhiaa man tisai vuThaa ||

It comes to dwell within the mind of those who are so pre-destined by the Supreme Lord God.

ਇਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਦੁਯਾ ਕੁਠਾ ॥

eik nira(n)jan rav rahiaa bhaau dhuyaa kuThaa ||

The One Immaculate Lord is pervading everywhere; He destroys the love of duality.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਤੁਠਾ ॥੧੩॥

har naanak ma(n)gai joR kar prabh dhevai tuThaa ||13||

Nanak begs for the Lord's Name, with his palms pressed together; by His Pleasure, God has granted it. ||13||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

salok mahalaa panjavaa ||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਜਾਚੜੀ ਸਾ ਸਾਰੁ ਜੋ ਜਾਚੰਦੀ ਹੇਕੜੋ ॥

jaachaRee saa saar jo jaacha(n)dhee hekaRo ||

The most excellent begging is begging for the One Lord.

ਗਾਲੑੀ ਬਿਆ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਣੀ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ॥੧॥

gaal(h)ee biaa vikaar naanak dhanee vihooneeaa ||1||

Other talk is corrupt, O Nanak, except that of the Lord Master. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:

ਨੀਹਿ ਜਿ ਵਿਧਾ ਮੰਨੁ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਵਿਰਲੋ ਥਿਓ ॥

neeh j vidhaa ma(n)n pachhaanoo viralo thio ||

One who recognizes the Lord is very rare; his mind is pierced through with the Love of the Lord.

ਜੋੜਣਹਾਰਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਪਧਰੋ ॥੨॥

joRanahaaraa sa(n)t naanak paadhar padharo ||2||

Such a Saint is the Uniter, O Nanak - he straightens out the path. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥

soiee sevih jeeaRe dhaataa bakhasi(n)dh ||

Serve Him, O my soul, who is the Giver and the Forgiver.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ਹੋਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥

kilavikh sabh binaas hon simarat govi(n)dh ||

All sinful mistakes are erased, by meditating in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.

ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਦਸਿਆ ਜਪੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੰਤੁ ॥

har maarag saadhoo dhasiaa japeeaai gurma(n)t ||

The Holy Saint has shown me the Way to the Lord; I chant the GurMantra.

ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਆਦ ਸਭਿ ਫਿਕਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦੁ ॥

maiaa suaadh sabh fikiaa har man bhaava(n)dh ||

The taste of Maya is totally bland and insipid; the Lord alone is pleasing to my mind.

ਧਿਆਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਤੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੧੪॥

dhiaai naanak paramesarai jin dhitee ji(n)dh ||14||

Meditate, O Nanak, on the Transcendent Lord, who has blessed you with your soul and your life. ||14||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

salok mahalaa panjavaa ||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਵਤ ਲਗੀ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਖਾਇ ॥

vat lagee sache naam kee jo beeje so khai ||

The time has come to plant the seed of the Lord's Name; one who plants it, shall eat its fruit.

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

tiseh paraapat naanakaa jis no likhiaa aai ||1||

He alone receives it, O Nanak, whose destiny is so pre-ordained. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:

ਮੰਗਣਾ ਤ ਸਚੁ ਇਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪਿ ॥

ma(n)ganaa ta sach ik jis tus dhevai aap ||

If one begs, then he should beg for the Name of the True One, which is given only by His Pleasure.

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥

jit khaadhai man tirapateeaai naanak saahib dhaat ||2||

Eating this gift from the Lord and Master, O Nanak, the mind is satisfied. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਲਾਹਾ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੇ ਖਟਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

laahaa jag meh se khaTeh jin har dhan raas ||

They alone earn profit in this world, who have the wealth of the Lord's Name.

ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਸਚੇ ਦੀ ਆਸ ॥

dhuteeaa bhaau na jaananee sache dhee aas ||

They do not know the love of duality; they place their hopes in the True Lord.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਰੇਵਿਆ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥

nihachal ek sareviaa hor sabh vinaas ||

They serve the One Eternal Lord, and give up everything else.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ॥

paarabraham jis visarai tis birathaa saas ||

One who forgets the Supreme Lord God - useless is his breath.

ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਨ ਰਖਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੧੫॥

ka(n)Th lai jan rakhiaa naanak bal jaas ||15||

God draws His humble servant close in His loving embrace and protects him - Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

salok mahalaa panjavaa ||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੀਹੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

paarabraham furamaiaa meeh vuThaa sahaj subhai ||

The Supreme Lord God gave the Order, and the rain automatically began to fall.

ਅੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਰਜੀ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

a(n)n dha(n)n bahut upajiaa pirathamee rajee tipat aghai ||

Grain and wealth were produced in abundance; the earth was totally satisfied and satiated.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥

sadhaa sadhaa gun ucharai dhukh dhaaladh giaa bilai ||

Forever and ever, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and pain and poverty shall run away.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

poorab likhiaa paiaa miliaa tisai rajai ||

People obtain that which they are pre-ordained to receive, according to the Will of the Lord.

ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥

paramesar jeevaaliaa naanak tisai dhiaai ||1||

The Transcendent Lord keeps you alive; O Nanak, meditate on Him. ||1||
