ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
pooraa gur pooree banat banaiee ||
The Perfect Guru has fashioned His perfect fashion.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥
naanak bhagat milee vaddiaaiee ||4||24||
O Nanak, the Lord's devotees are blessed with glorious greatness. ||4||24||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ॥
gur kai sabadh banaavahu ih man ||
I have shaped this mind in the mold of the Guru's Word.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ॥੧॥
gur kaa dharasan sa(n)chahu har dhan ||1||
Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan, I have gathered the wealth of the Lord. ||1||
ਊਤਮ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਉ ॥
uootam mat merai ridhai too(n) aau ||
O sublime understanding, come, enter into my mind,
ਧਿਆਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhiaavau gaavau gun govi(n)dhaa at preetam moh laagai naau ||1|| rahaau ||
that I may meditate and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and love so dearly the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
tirapat aghaavan saachai nai ||
I am satisfied and satiated by the True Name.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
aThasaTh majan sa(n)t dhoorai ||2||
My cleansing bath at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is the dust of the Saints. ||2||
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕ ॥
sabh meh jaanau karataa ek ||
I recognize that the One Creator is contained in all.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੩॥
saadhasa(n)gat mil budh bibek ||3||
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my understanding is refined. ||3||
ਦਾਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਕਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
dhaas sagal kaa chhodd abhimaan ||
I have become the servant of all; I have renounced my ego and pride.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
naanak kau gur dheeno dhaan ||4||25||
The Guru has given this gift to Nanak. ||4||25||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਬੁਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ॥
budh pragaas bhiee mat pooree ||
My intellect has been enlightened, and my understanding is perfect.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਰੀ ॥੧॥
taa te binasee dhuramat dhooree ||1||
Thus my evil-mindedness, which kept me far from Him, has been removed. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਅਲੇ ॥
aaisee gurmat paieeale ||
Such are the Teachings which I have received from the Guru;
ਬੂਡਤ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
booddat ghor a(n)dh koop meh nikasio mere bhaiee re ||1|| rahaau ||
while I was drowning in the pitch black well, I was saved, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਾਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥ ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ॥੨॥
mahaa agaeh agan kaa saagar || gur bohith taare ratanaagar ||2||
The Guru is the boat to cross over the totally unfathomable ocean of fire; He is treasure of jewels. ||2||
ਦੁਤਰ ਅੰਧ ਬਿਖਮ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
dhutar a(n)dh bikham ieh maiaa ||
This ocean of Maya is dark and treacherous.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gur poorai paragaT maarag dhikhaiaa ||3||
The Perfect Guru has revealed the way to cross over it. ||3||
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕਛੁ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
jaap taap kachh ukat na moree ||
I do not have the ability to chant or practice intense meditation.
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੨੬॥
gur naanak saranaagat toree ||4||26||
Guru Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||4||26||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਤਿਪਦੇ ੨ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa tipadhe 2 ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla, Thi-Padhay:
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
har ras peevat sadh hee raataa ||
One who drinks in the Lord's sublime essence is forever imbued with it,
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa ||
while other essences wear off in an instant.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
har ras ke maate man sadhaa ana(n)dh ||
Intoxicated with the Lord's sublime essence, the mind is forever in ecstasy.
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧॥
aan rasaa meh viaapai chi(n)dh ||1||
Other essences bring only anxiety. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਲਮਸਤੁ ਮਤਵਾਰਾ ॥
har ras peevai alamasat matavaaraa ||
One who drinks in the Lord's sublime essence, is intoxicated and enraptured;
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਛੇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan rasaa sabh hochhe re ||1|| rahaau ||
all other essences have no effect. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
har ras kee keemat kahee na jai ||
The value of the Lord's sublime essence cannot be described.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਾਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
har ras saadhoo haaT samai ||
The Lord's sublime essence permeates the homes of the Holy.
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਕੇਹ ॥
laakh karoree milai na keh ||
One may spend thousands and millions, but it cannot be purchased.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਿ ॥੨॥
jiseh paraapat tis hee dheh ||2||
He alone obtains it, who is so pre-ordained. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਖਿ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
naanak chaakh bhe bisamaadh ||
Tasting it, Nanak is wonder-struck.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
naanak gur te aaiaa saadh ||
Through the Guru, Nanak has obtained this taste.
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
e'eet uoot kat chhodd na jai ||
Here and hereafter, it does not leave him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥੨੭॥
naanak geedhaa har ras maeh ||3||27||
Nanak is imbued and enraptured with the Lord's subtle essence. ||3||27||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
kaam karodh lobh moh miTaavai chhuTakai dhuramat apunee dhaaree ||
If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well;
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥
hoi nimaanee sev kamaaveh taa preetam hoveh man piaaree ||1||
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥
sun su(n)dhar saadhoo bachan udhaaree ||
Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved.
ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਮਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dhookh bhookh miTai tero sahasaa sukh paaveh too(n) sukhaman naaree ||1|| rahaau ||
Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause||
ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
charan pakhaar karau gur sevaa aatam sudh bikh tiaas nivaaree ||
Washing the Guru's feet, and serving Him, the soul is sanctified, and the thirst for sin is quenched.
ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਿ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
dhaasan kee hoi dhaas dhaasaree taa paaveh sobhaa har dhuaaree ||2||
If you become the slave of the slave of the Lord's slaves, then you shall obtain honor in the Court of the Lord. ||2||
ਇਹੀ ਅਚਾਰ ਇਹੀ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥
eihee achaar ihee biauhaaraa aagiaa maan bhagat hoi tum(h)aaree ||
This is right conduct, and this is the correct lifestyle, to obey the Command of the Lord's Will; this is your devotional worship.
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
jo ih ma(n)tr kamaavai naanak so bhaujal paar utaaree ||3||28||
One who practices this Mantra, O Nanak, swims across the terrifying world-ocean. ||3||28||
