ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
so naam japai jo jan tudh bhaavai ||1|| rahaau ||
He alone is pleasing to Your Will, who chants the Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
tan man seetal jap naam teraa ||
My body and mind are cooled and soothed, chanting the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਢਹੈ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
har har japat ddahai dhukh dderaa ||2||
Meditating on the Lord, Har, Har, the house of pain is demolished. ||2||
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
hukam boojhai soiee paravaan ||
He alone, who understands the Command of the Lord's Will, is approved.
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
saach sabadh jaa kaa neesaan ||3||
The True Shabad of the Word of God is his trademark and insignia. ||3||
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai har naam dhiraRaiaa ||
The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me.
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੫੯॥
bhanat naanak merai man sukh paiaa ||4||8||59||
Prays Nanak, my mind has found peace. ||4||8||59||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਹਾ ਪਠਾਵਹੁ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਜਾੲਂੀ ॥
jahaa paThaavahu teh teh jaae(n)ee ||
Wherever You send me, there I go.
ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾੲਂੀ ॥੧॥
jo tum dheh soiee sukh paae(n)ee ||1||
Whatever You give me, brings me peace. ||1||
ਸਦਾ ਚੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥
sadhaa chere govi(n)dh gosaiee ||
I am forever the chaylaa, the humble disciple, of the Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World.
ਤੁਮੑਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾੲਂੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tum(h)ree kirapaa te tirapat aghaae(n)ee ||1|| rahaau ||
By Your Grace, I am satisfied and satiated. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮਰਾ ਦੀਆ ਪੈਨੑਉ ਖਾੲਂੀ ॥
tumaraa dheeaa pain(h)au khaae(n)ee ||
Whatever You give me, I wear and eat.
ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਲਾੲਂੀ ॥੨॥
tau prasaadh prabh sukhee valaae(n)ee ||2||
By Your Grace, O God, my life passes peacefully. ||2||
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆੲਂੀ ॥
man tan a(n)tar tujhai dhiaae(n)ee ||
Deep within my mind and body, I meditate on You.
ਤੁਮੑਰੈ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਲਾੲਂੀ ॥੩॥
tum(h)rai lavai na kouoo laae(n)ee ||3||
I recognize none as equal to You. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਤ ਇਵੈ ਧਿਆੲਂੀ ॥
kahu naanak nit ivai dhiaae(n)ee ||
Says Nanak, this is my continual meditation:
ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਤਹ ਲਗਿ ਪਾੲਂੀ ॥੪॥੯॥੬੦॥
gat hovai sa(n)teh lag paae(n)ee ||4||9||60||
that I may be emancipated, clinging to the Feet of the Saints. ||4||9||60||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
uooThat baiThat sovat dhiaaieeaai ||
While standing up, and sitting down, and even while asleep, meditate on the Lord.
ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਤ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
maarag chalat hare har gaieeaai ||1||
Walking on the Way, sing the Praises of the Lord. ||1||
ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸੁਨੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ॥
sravan suneejai a(n)mirat kathaa ||
With your ears, listen to the Ambrosial Sermon.
ਜਾਸੁ ਸੁਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਮਨ ਸਗਲੇ ਲਥਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaas sunee man hoi ana(n)dhaa dhookh rog man sagale lathaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Listening to it, your mind shall be filled with bliss, and the troubles and diseases of your mind shall all depart. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਰਜਿ ਕਾਮਿ ਬਾਟ ਘਾਟ ਜਪੀਜੈ ॥
kaaraj kaam baaT ghaaT japeejai ||
While you work at your job, on the road and at the beach, meditate and chant.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
gur prasaadh har a(n)mrit peejai ||2||
By Guru's Grace, drink in the Ambrosial Essence of the Lord. ||2||
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
dhinas rain har keeratan gaieeaai ||
The humble being who sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, day and night,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਵਾਟ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
so jan jam kee vaaT na paieeaai ||3||
does not have to go with the Messenger of Death. ||3||
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
aaTh pahar jis visareh naahee ||
One who does not forget the Lord, twenty-four hours a day, is emancipated;
ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੬੧॥
gat hovai naanak tis lag paiee ||4||10||61||
O Nanak, I fall at his feet. ||4||10||61||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਸੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
jaa kai simaran sookh nivaas ||
Remembering Him in meditation, one abides in peace;
ਭਈ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦੁਖ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
bhiee kaliaan dhukh hovat naas ||1||
one becomes happy, and suffering is ended. ||1||
ਅਨਦੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥
anadh karahu prabh ke gun gaavahu ||
Celebrate, make merry, and sing God's Glories.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਾਵਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur apanaa sadh sadhaa manaavahu ||1|| rahaau ||
Forever and ever, surrender to the True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
satigur kaa sach sabadh kamaavahu ||
Act in accordance with the Shabad, the True Word of the True Guru.
ਥਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
thir ghar baiThe prabh apanaa paavahu ||2||
Remain steady and stable within the home of your own self, and find God. ||2||
ਪਰ ਕਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਚੀਤ ॥
par kaa buraa na raakhahu cheet ||
Do not harbor evil intentions against others in your mind,
ਤੁਮ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥
tum kau dhukh nahee bhaiee meet ||3||
and you shall not be troubled, O Siblings of Destiny, O friends. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੑਾ ॥
har har ta(n)t ma(n)t gur dheen(h)aa ||
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the Tantric exercise, and the Mantra, given by the Guru.
ਇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਚੀਨੑਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੬੨॥
eih sukh naanak anadhin cheen(h)aa ||4||11||62||
Nanak knows this peace alone, night and day. ||4||11||62||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸੁ ਨੀਚ ਕਉ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
jis neech kau koiee na jaanai ||
That wretched being, whom no one knows
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਉਹੁ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
naam japat uh chahu ku(n)T maanai ||1||
- chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he is honored in the four directions. ||1||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
dharasan maagau dheh piaare ||
I beg for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; please, give it to me, O Beloved!
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਉਨ ਕਉਨ ਨ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tumaree sevaa kaun kaun na taare ||1|| rahaau ||
Serving You, who, who has not been saved? ||1||Pause||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jaa kai nikaT na aavai koiee ||
That person, whom no one wants to be near
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਆ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਈ ॥੨॥
sagal sirasaT uaa ke charan mal dhoiee ||2||
- the whole world comes to wash the dirt of his feet. ||2||
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਕਾਮ ॥
jo praanee kaahoo na aavat kaam ||
That mortal, who is of no use to anyone at all
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥
sa(n)t prasaadh taa ko japeeaai naam ||3||
- by the Grace of the Saints, he meditates on the Naam. ||3||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
saadhasa(n)g man sovat jaage ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the sleeping mind awakens.
ਤਬ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੀਠੇ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੬੩॥
tab prabh naanak meeThe laage ||4||12||63||
Then, O Nanak, God seems sweet. ||4||12||63||

sadhaa sadhaa har naam sam(h)aarau ||1||
Forever and ever, I contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
