ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
dhin rain teraa naam vakhaanaa ||1||
Day and night, I chant Your Name. ||1||
ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
mai niragun gun naahee koi ||
I am worthless; I have no virtue at all.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karan karaavanahaar prabh soi ||1|| rahaau ||
God is the Creator, the Cause of all causes. ||1||Pause||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
moorakh mugadh agiaan aveechaaree ||
I am foolish, stupid, ignorant and thoughtless;
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਮਨਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
naam tere kee aas man dhaaree ||2||
Your Name is my mind's only hope. ||2||
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
jap tap sa(n)jam karam na saadhaa ||
I have not practiced chanting, deep meditation, self-discipline or good actions;
ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਾ ॥੩॥
naam prabhoo kaa maneh araadhaa ||3||
but within my mind, I have worshipped God's Name. ||3||
ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਥੋਰੀ ॥
kichhoo na jaanaa mat meree thoree ||
I know nothing, and my intellect is inadequate.
ਬਿਨਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੬੯॥
binavat naanak oT prabh toree ||4||18||69||
Prays Nanak, O God, You are my only Support. ||4||18||69||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਖਰ ਦੁਇ ਇਹ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
har har akhar dhui ieh maalaa ||
These two words, Har, Har, make up my maalaa.
ਜਪਤ ਜਪਤ ਭਏ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥
japat japat bhe dheen dhiaalaa ||1||
Continually chanting and reciting this rosary, God has become merciful to me, His humble servant. ||1||
ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੀ ॥
karau benatee satigur apunee ||
I offer my prayer to the True Guru.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa raakhahu saranaiee mo kau dheh hare har japanee ||1|| rahaau ||
Shower Your Mercy upon me, and keep me safe in Your Sanctuary; please, give me the maalaa, the rosary of Har, Har. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਮਾਲਾ ਉਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
har maalaa ur a(n)tar dhaarai ||
One who enshrines this rosary of the Lord's Name within his heart,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
janam maran kaa dhookh nivaarai ||2||
is freed of the pains of birth and death. ||2||
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਮਾਲੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
hiradhai samaalai mukh har har bolai ||
The humble being who contemplates the Lord within his heart, and chants the Lord's Name, Har, Har, with his mouth,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ॥੩॥
so jan it ut kateh na ddolai ||3||
never wavers, here or hereafter. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥
kahu naanak jo raachai nai ||
Says Nanak, one who is imbued with the Name,
ਹਰਿ ਮਾਲਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੭੦॥
har maalaa taa kai sa(n)g jai ||4||19||70||
goes to the next world with the maalaa of the Lord's Name. ||4||19||70||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis kaa sabh kichh tis kaa hoi ||
All things belong to Him - let yourself belong to Him as well.
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
tis jan lep na biaapai koi ||1||
No stain clings to such a humble being. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
har kaa sevak sadh hee mukataa ||
The Lord's servant is liberated forever.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kichh karai soiee bhal jan kai at niramal dhaas kee jugataa ||1|| rahaau ||
Whatever He does, is pleasing to His servant; the way of life of His slave is immaculately pure. ||1||Pause||
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
sagal tiaag har saranee aaiaa ||
One who renounces everything, and enters the Lord's Sanctuary
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
tis jan kahaa biaapai maiaa ||2||
- how can Maya cling to him? ||2||
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
naam nidhaan jaa ke man maeh ||
With the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, in his mind,
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
tis kau chi(n)taa supanai naeh ||3||
he suffers no anxiety, even in dreams. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kahu naanak gur pooraa paiaa ||
Says Nanak, I have found the Perfect Guru.
ਭਰਮੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਸਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੭੧॥
bharam moh sagal binasaiaa ||4||20||71||
My doubts and attachments have been totally obliterated. ||4||20||71||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||
Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਉ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
jau suprasa(n)n hoio prabh meraa ||
When my God is totally pleased with me,
ਤਾਂ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
taa(n) dhookh bharam kahu kaise neraa ||1||
then, tell me, how can suffering or doubt draw near me? ||1||
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥
sun sun jeevaa soi tum(h)aaree ||
Continually listening to Your Glory, I live.
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਕਉ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
moh niragun kau leh udhaaree ||1|| rahaau ||
I am worthless - save me, O Lord! ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
miT giaa dhookh bisaaree chi(n)taa ||
My suffering has been ended, and my anxiety is forgotten.
ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਪਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
fal paiaa jap satigur ma(n)taa ||2||
I have obtained my reward, chanting the Mantra of the True Guru. ||2||
ਸੋਈ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
soiee sat sat hai soi ||
He is True, and True is His glory.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਰਖੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥੩॥
simar simar rakh ka(n)Th paroi ||3||
Remembering, remembering Him in meditation, keep Him clasped to your heart. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉਨ ਉਹ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
kahu naanak kaun uh karamaa ||
Says Nanak, what action is there left to do,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੭੨॥
jaa kai man vasiaa har naamaa ||4||21||72||
by one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name? ||4||21||72||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ॥
kaam karodh aha(n)kaar vigoote ||
Sexual desire, anger, and egotism lead to ruin.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੧॥
har simaran kar har jan chhooTe ||1||
Meditating on the Lord, the Lord's humble servants are redeemed. ||1||
ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
soi rahe maiaa madh maate ||
The mortals are asleep, intoxicated with the wine of Maya.
ਜਾਗਤ ਭਗਤ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaagat bhagat simarat har raate ||1|| rahaau ||
The devotees remain awake, imbued with the Lord's meditation. ||1||Pause||
ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮਿ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਇਆ ॥
moh bharam bahu jon bhavaiaa ||
In emotional attachment and doubt, the mortals wander through countless incarnations.
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
asathir bhagat har charan dhiaaiaa ||2||
The devotees remain ever-stable, meditating on the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||2||
ਬੰਧਨ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
ba(n)dhan a(n)dh koop gireh meraa ||
Bound to household and possessions, the mortals are lost in the deep, dark pit.
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
mukate sa(n)t bujheh har neraa ||3||
The Saints are liberated, knowing the Lord to be near at hand. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
kahu naanak jo prabh saranaiee ||
Says Nanak, one who has taken to God's Sanctuary,
ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੭੩॥
e'eehaa sukh aagai gat paiee ||4||22||73||
obtains peace in this world, and salvation in the world hereafter. ||4||22||73||
