ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maiaa moh pareet dhirag sukhee na dheesai koi ||1|| rahaau ||
Cursed is emotional attachment and love of Maya; no one is seen to be at peace. ||1||Pause||
ਦਾਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
dhaanaa dhaataa seelava(n)t niramal roop apaar ||
God is Wise, Giving, Tender-hearted, Pure, Beautiful and Infinite.
ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਊਚਾ ਵਡਾ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
sakhaa sahaiee at vaddaa uoochaa vaddaa apaar ||
He is our Companion and Helper, Supremely Great, Lofty and Utterly Infinite.
ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
baalak biradh na jaaneeaai nihachal tis dharavaar ||
He is not known as young or old; His Court is Steady and Stable.
ਜੋ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jo ma(n)geeaai soiee paieeaai nidhaaraa aadhaar ||2||
Whatever we seek from Him, we receive. He is the Support of the unsupported. ||2||
ਜਿਸੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥
jis pekhat kilavikh hireh man tan hovai saa(n)t ||
Seeing Him, our evil inclinations vanish; mind and body become peaceful and tranquil.
ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਲਾਹਿ ਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥
eik man ek dhiaaieeaai man kee laeh bharaa(n)t ||
With one-pointed mind, meditate on the One Lord, and the doubts of your mind will be dispelled.
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
gun nidhaan navatan sadhaa pooran jaa kee dhaat ||
He is the Treasure of Excellence, the Ever-fresh Being. His Gift is Perfect and Complete.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
sadhaa sadhaa aaraadheeaai dhin visarahu nahee raat ||3||
Forever and ever, worship and adore Him. Day and night, do not forget Him. ||3||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਖਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
jin kau poorab likhiaa tin kaa sakhaa govi(n)dh ||
One whose destiny is so pre-ordained, obtains the Lord of the Universe as his Companion.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਸਭੋ ਸਗਲ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥
tan man dhan arapee sabho sagal vaareeaai ieh ji(n)dh ||
I dedicate my body, mind, wealth and all to Him. I totally sacrifice my soul to Him.
ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਸਦ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
dhekhai sunai hadhoor sadh ghaT ghaT braham ravi(n)dh ||
Seeing and hearing, He is always close at hand. In each and every heart, God is pervading.
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਨੋ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੩॥
akirataghanaa no paaladhaa prabh naanak sadh bakhasi(n)dh ||4||13||83||
Even the ungrateful ones are cherished by God. O Nanak, He is forever the Forgiver. ||4||13||83||
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sireeraag mahalaa panjavaa ||
Siree Raag, Fifth Mehla:
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਆ ਰਖਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
man tan dhan jin prabh dheeaa rakhiaa sahaj savaar ||
This mind, body and wealth were given by God, who naturally adorns us.
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
sarab kalaa kar thaapiaa a(n)tar jot apaar ||
He has blessed us with all our energy, and infused His Infinite Light deep within us.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਖੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
sadhaa sadhaa prabh simareeaai a(n)tar rakh ur dhaar ||1||
Forever and ever, meditate in remembrance on God; keep Him enshrined in your heart. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mere man har bin avar na koi ||
O my mind, without the Lord, there is no other at all.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh saranaiee sadhaa rahu dhookh na viaapai koi ||1|| rahaau ||
Remain in God's Sanctuary forever, and no suffering shall afflict you. ||1||Pause||
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਾਣਕਾ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
ratan padhaarath maanakaa suinaa rupaa khaak ||
Jewels, treasures, pearls, gold and silver-all these are just dust.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪਾ ਕੂੜੇ ਸਭੇ ਸਾਕ ॥
maat pitaa sut ba(n)dhapaa kooRe sabhe saak ||
Mother, father, children and relatives-all relations are false.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਸੁ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੨॥
jin keetaa tiseh na jaaniee manmukh pas naapaak ||2||
The self-willed manmukh is an insulting beast; he does not acknowledge the One who created him. ||2||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
a(n)tar baahar rav rahiaa tis no jaanai dhoor ||
The Lord is pervading within and beyond, and yet people think that He is far away.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਰਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੂਰਿ ॥
tirasanaa laagee rach rahiaa a(n)tar haumai koor ||
They are engrossed in clinging desires; within their hearts there is ego and falsehood.
ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਆਵਹਿ ਵੰਞਹਿ ਪੂਰ ॥੩॥
bhagatee naam vihooniaa aaveh va(n)n(j)h poor ||3||
Without devotion to the Naam, crowds of people come and go. ||3||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ॥
raakh leh prabh karanahaar jeea ja(n)t kar dhiaa ||
Please preserve Your beings and creatures, God; O Creator Lord, please be merciful!
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਖਨਹਾਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਜਮ ਭਇਆ ॥
bin prabh koi na rakhanahaar mahaa bikaT jam bhiaa ||
Without God, there is no saving grace. The Messenger of Death is cruel and unfeeling.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰਉ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੪॥
naanak naam na veesarau kar apunee har miaa ||4||14||84||
O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam! Please bless me with Your Mercy, Lord! ||4||14||84||
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sireeraag mahalaa panjavaa ||
Siree Raag, Fifth Mehla:
ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨੁ ਅਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਜ ਰੂਪ ਮੈ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
meraa tan ar dhan meraa raaj roop mai dhes ||
"My body and my wealth; my ruling power, my beautiful form and country-mine!"
ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਰੰਗ ਅਰੁ ਵੇਸ ॥
sut dhaaraa banitaa anek bahut ra(n)g ar ves ||
You may have children, a wife and many mistresses; you may enjoy all sorts of pleasures and fine clothes.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸਈ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖਿ ॥੧॥
har naam ridhai na vasiee kaaraj kitai na lekh ||1||
And yet, if the Name of the Lord does not abide within the heart, none of it has any use or value. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
mere man har har naam dhiaai ||
O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਕਰਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar sa(n)gat nit saadh kee gur charanee chit lai ||1|| rahaau ||
Always keep the Company of the Holy, and focus your consciousness on the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
naam nidhaan dhiaaieeaai masatak hovai bhaag ||
Those who have such blessed destiny written on their foreheads meditate on the Treasure of the Naam.
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
kaaraj sabh savaare'eh gur kee charanee laag ||
All their affairs are brought to fruition, holding onto the Guru's Feet.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਗੁ ॥੨॥
haumai rog bhram kaTeeaai naa aavai naa jaag ||2||
The diseases of ego and doubt are cast out; they shall not come and go in reincarnation. ||2||
ਕਰਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੂ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਉ ॥
kar sa(n)gat too saadh kee aThasaTh teerath naau ||
Let the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, be your cleansing baths at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਜੀਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਹੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
jeeau praan man tan hare saachaa eh suaau ||
Your soul, breath of life, mind and body shall blossom forth in lush profusion; this is the true purpose of life.
