ਜੀਵਨੈ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੈ ਸਾਸਾ ॥
jeevanai kee aas kareh jam nihaarai saasaa ||
You hope for long life, while Death counts your breaths.
ਬਾਜੀਗਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਚੇਤਿ ਢਾਲਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੩॥੧॥੨੩॥
baajeegaree sa(n)saar kabeeraa chet ddaal paasaa ||3||1||23||
The world is a game, O Kabeer, so throw the dice consciously. ||3||1||23||

ਤਨੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਪੁਨ ਰਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਉ ਪਾਚਉ ਤਤ ਬਰਾਤੀ ॥
tan rainee man pun rap kar hau paachau tat baraatee ||
I make my body the dying vat, and within it, I dye my mind. I make the five elements my marriage guests.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਿਉ ਭਾਵਰਿ ਲੈਹਉ ਆਤਮ ਤਿਹ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
raam rai siau bhaavar laihau aatam teh ra(n)g raatee ||1||
I take my marriage vows with the Lord, my King; my soul is imbued with His Love. ||1||
ਗਾਉ ਗਾਉ ਰੀ ਦੁਲਹਨੀ ਮੰਗਲਚਾਰਾ ॥
gaau gaau ree dhulahanee ma(n)galachaaraa ||
Sing, sing, O brides of the Lord, the marriage songs of the Lord.
ਮੇਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਏ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਭਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mere gireh aae raajaa raam bhataaraa ||1|| rahaau ||
The Lord, my King, has come to my house as my Husband. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾਭਿ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਬੇਦੀ ਰਚਿ ਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਉਚਾਰਾ ॥
naabh kamal meh bedhee rach le braham giaan uchaaraa ||
Within the lotus of my heart, I have made my bridal pavilion, and I have spoken the wisdom of God.
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸੋ ਦੂਲਹੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਸ ਬਡਭਾਗ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
raam rai so dhoolahu paio as baddabhaag hamaaraa ||2||
I have obtained the Lord King as my Husband - such is my great good fortune. ||2||
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਕਉਤਕ ਆਏ ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਉਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
sur nar mun jan kautak aae koT tetees ujaanaa(n) ||
The angles, holy men, silent sages, and the 330,000,000 deities have come in their heavenly chariots to see this spectacle.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਹਿ ਚਲੇ ਹੈ ਪੁਰਖ ਏਕ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥੨॥੨੪॥
keh kabeer moh biaaeh chale hai purakh ek bhagavaanaa ||3||2||24||
Says Kabeer, I have been taken in marriage by the One Supreme Being, the Lord God. ||3||2||24||

ਸਾਸੁ ਕੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਸਸੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੇਠ ਕੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਡਰਉ ਰੇ ॥
saas kee dhukhee sasur kee piaaree jeTh ke naam ddarau re ||
I am bothered by my mother-in-law, Maya, and loved by my father-in-law, the Lord. I fear even the name of my husband's elder brother, Death.
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਨਨਦ ਗਹੇਲੀ ਦੇਵਰ ਕੈ ਬਿਰਹਿ ਜਰਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
sakhee sahelee nanadh gahelee dhevar kai bireh jarau re ||1||
O my mates and companions, my husband's sister, misunderstanding has seized me, and I am burning with the pain of separation from my husband's younger brother, divine knowledge. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਬਉਰੀ ਮੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਰਹਉ ਰੇ ॥
meree mat bauree mai raam bisaario kin bidh rahan rahau re ||
My mind has gone insane, since I forgot the Lord. How can I lead a virtuous lifestyle?
ਸੇਜੈ ਰਮਤੁ ਨੈਨ ਨਹੀ ਪੇਖਉ ਇਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾ ਸਉ ਕਹਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sejai ramat nain nahee pekhau ih dhukh kaa sau kahau re ||1|| rahaau ||
He rests in the bed of my mind, but I cannot see Him with my eyes. Unto whom should I tell my sufferings? ||1||Pause||
ਬਾਪੁ ਸਾਵਕਾ ਕਰੈ ਲਰਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਦ ਮਤਵਾਰੀ ॥
baap saavakaa karai laraiee maiaa sadh matavaaree ||
My step-father, egotism, fights with me, and my mother, desire, is always intoxicated.
ਬਡੇ ਭਾਈ ਕੈ ਜਬ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤੀ ਤਬ ਹਉ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨॥
badde bhaiee kai jab sa(n)g hotee tab hau naeh piaaree ||2||
When I stayed with my elder brother, meditation, then I was loved by my Husband Lord. ||2||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਪੰਚ ਕੋ ਝਗਰਾ ਝਗਰਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
kahat kabeer pa(n)ch ko jhagaraa jhagarat janam gavaiaa ||
Says Kabeer, the five passions argue with me, and in these arguments, my life is wasting away.
ਝੂਠੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥੩॥੨੫॥
jhooThee maiaa sabh jag baadhiaa mai raam ramat sukh paiaa ||3||3||25||
The false Maya has bound the whole world, but I have obtained peace, chanting the Name of the Lord. ||3||3||25||

ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਤੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਤਾਨਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਜਨੇਊ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
ham ghar soot taneh nit taanaa ka(n)Th janeuoo tumaare ||
In my house, I constantly weave the thread, while you wear the thread around your neck, O Brahmin.
ਤੁਮੑ ਤਉ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹੁ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
tum(h) tau bedh paRahu gaitree gobi(n)dh ridhai hamaare ||1||
You read the Vedas and sacred hymns, while I have enshrined the Lord of the Universe in my heart. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨੈਨ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਹਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥
meree jihabaa bisan nain naarain hiradhai baseh gobi(n)dhaa ||
Upon my tongue, within my eyes, and within my heart, abides the Lord, the Lord of the Universe.
ਜਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਜਬ ਪੂਛਸਿ ਬਵਰੇ ਤਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਸਿ ਮੁਕੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jam dhuaar jab poochhas bavare tab kiaa kahas muka(n)dhaa ||1|| rahaau ||
When you are interrogated at Death's door, O mad-man, what will you say then? ||1||Pause||
ਹਮ ਗੋਰੂ ਤੁਮ ਗੁਆਰ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥
ham goroo tum guaar gusaiee janam janam rakhavaare ||
I am a cow, and You are the herdsman, the Sustainer of the World. You are my Saving Grace, lifetime after lifetime.
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਚਰਾਇਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
kabahoo(n) na paar utaar charaih kaise khasam hamaare ||2||
You have never taken me across to graze there - what sort of a herdsman are You? ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਬਾਮੑਨੁ ਮੈ ਕਾਸੀਕ ਜੁਲਹਾ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਮੋਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
too(n) baam(h)n mai kaaseek julahaa boojhahu mor giaanaa ||
You are a Brahmin, and I am a weaver of Benares; can You understand my wisdom?
ਤੁਮੑ ਤਉ ਜਾਚੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਮੋਰ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥੩॥੪॥੨੬॥
tum(h) tau jaache bhoopat raaje har sau mor dhiaanaa ||3||4||26||
You beg from emperors and kings, while I meditate on the Lord. ||3||4||26||

ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੁਪਨ ਸਮਾਨੰ ॥
jag jeevan aaisaa supane jaisaa jeevan supan samaana(n) ||
The life of the world is only a dream; life is just a dream.
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਗਾਠਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੰ ॥੧॥
saach kar ham gaaTh dheenee chhodd param nidhaana(n) ||1||
Believing it to be true, I grasped at it, and abandoned the supreme treasure. ||1||
ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਹਿਤੁ ਕੀਨੑ ॥
baabaa maiaa moh hit keen(h) ||
O Father, I have enshrined love and affection for Maya,
ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੀਨੑ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin giaan ratan hir leen(h) ||1|| rahaau ||
which has taken the jewel of spiritual wisdom away from me. ||1||Pause||
ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਉਰਝੈ ਪਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਗਿ ॥
nain dhekh pata(n)g urajhai pas na dhekhai aag ||
The moth sees with its eyes, but it still becomes entangled; the insect does not see the fire.
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਨ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਚੇਤੈ ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਿਨਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੨॥
kaal faas na mugadh chetai kanik kaamin laag ||2||
Attached to gold and woman, the fool does not think of the noose of Death. ||2||
ਕਰਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਸੋਇ ॥
kar bichaar bikaar parahar taran taaran soi ||
Reflect upon this, and abandon sin; the Lord is a boat to carry you across.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਦੁਤੀਅ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥੫॥੨੭॥
keh kabeer jagajeevan aaisaa dhuteea naahee koi ||3||5||27||
Says Kabeer, such is the Lord, the Life of the World; there is no one equal to Him. ||3||5||27||
