ਮੇਰੀ ਬਹੁਰੀਆ ਕੋ ਧਨੀਆ ਨਾਉ ॥
meree bahureeaa ko dhaneeaa naau ||
My daughter-in-law was first called Dhannia, the woman of wealth,
ਲੇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਜਨੀਆ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
le raakhio raam janeeaa naau ||1||
but now she is called Raam-jannia, the servant of the Lord. ||1||
ਇਨੑ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰੁ ਧੁੰਧਰਾਵਾ ॥
ein(h) mu(n)ddeean meraa ghar dhu(n)dharaavaa ||
These shaven-headed saints have ruined my house.
ਬਿਟਵਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਊਆ ਲਾਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
biTaveh raam ramuooaa laavaa ||1|| rahaau ||
They have caused my son to start chanting the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunahu meree maiee ||
Says Kabeer, listen, O mother:
ਇਨੑ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੨॥੩॥੩੩॥
ein(h) mu(n)ddeean meree jaat gavaiee ||2||3||33||
these shaven-headed saints have done away with my low social status. ||2||3||33||
ਆਸਾ ॥

Aasaa:
ਰਹੁ ਰਹੁ ਰੀ ਬਹੁਰੀਆ ਘੂੰਘਟੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਾਢੈ ॥
rahu rahu ree bahureeaa ghoo(n)ghaT jin kaaddai ||
Stay, stay, O daughter-in-law - do not cover your face with a veil.
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਲਹੈਗੀ ਨ ਆਢੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
a(n)t kee baar lahaigee na aaddai ||1|| rahaau ||
In the end, this shall not bring you even half a shell. ||1||Pause||
ਘੂੰਘਟੁ ਕਾਢਿ ਗਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਗੈ ॥
ghoo(n)ghaT kaadd giee teree aagai ||
The one before you used to veil her face;
ਉਨ ਕੀ ਗੈਲਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥
aun kee gail toh jin laagai ||1||
do not follow in her footsteps. ||1||
ਘੂੰਘਟ ਕਾਢੇ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
ghoo(n)ghaT kaadde kee ihai baddaiee ||
The only merit in veiling your face is
ਦਿਨ ਦਸ ਪਾਂਚ ਬਹੂ ਭਲੇ ਆਈ ॥੨॥
dhin dhas paa(n)ch bahoo bhale aaiee ||2||
that for a few days, people will say, ""What a noble bride has come"". ||2||
ਘੂੰਘਟੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਤਉ ਪਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ॥
ghoo(n)ghaT tero tau par saachai ||
Your veil shall be true only if
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਕੂਦਹਿ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਚੈ ॥੩॥
har gun gai koodheh ar naachai ||3||
you skip, dance and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਬਹੂ ਤਬ ਜੀਤੈ ॥
kahat kabeer bahoo tab jeetai ||
Says Kabeer, the soul-bride shall win,
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਤੀਤੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੪॥
har gun gaavat janam biteetai ||4||1||34||
only if she passes her life singing the Lord's Praises. ||4||1||34||
ਆਸਾ ॥

Aasaa:
ਕਰਵਤੁ ਭਲਾ ਨ ਕਰਵਟ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
karavat bhalaa na karavaT teree ||
I would rather be cut apart by a saw, than have You turn Your back on me.
ਲਾਗੁ ਗਲੇ ਸੁਨੁ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੧॥
laag gale sun binatee meree ||1||
Hug me close, and listen to my prayer. ||1||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਫੇਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
hau vaaree mukh fer piaare ||
I am a sacrifice to You - please, turn Your face to me, O Beloved Lord.
ਕਰਵਟੁ ਦੇ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karavaT dhe mo kau kaahe kau maare ||1|| rahaau ||
Why do You kill me by turning Your back to me? ||1||Pause||
ਜਉ ਤਨੁ ਚੀਰਹਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਨ ਮੋਰਉ ॥
jau tan cheereh a(n)g na morau ||
Even if You cut my body apart, I shall not pull my limbs away from You.
ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰੈ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੋਰਉ ॥੨॥
pi(n)dd parai tau preet na torau ||2||
Even if my body falls, I shall not break my bonds of love with You. ||2||
ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਬੀਚੁ ਭਇਓ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥
ham tum beech bhio nahee koiee ||
Between You and I, there is no other.
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਸੁ ਕੰਤ ਨਾਰਿ ਹਮ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
tumeh su ka(n)t naar ham soiee ||3||
You are the Husband Lord, and I am the soul-bride. ||3||
ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunahu re loiee ||
Says Kabeer, listen, O people:
ਅਬ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੩੫॥
ab tumaree parateet na hoiee ||4||2||35||
now, I place no reliance in you. ||4||2||35||
ਆਸਾ ॥

Aasaa:
ਕੋਰੀ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
koree ko kaahoo maram na jaanaa(n) ||
No one knows the secret of God, the Cosmic Weaver.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਆਨਿ ਤਨਾਇਓ ਤਾਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh jag aan tanaio taanaa(n) ||1|| rahaau ||
He has stretched out the fabric of the whole world. ||1||Pause||
ਜਬ ਤੁਮ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ॥
jab tum sun le bedh puraanaa(n) ||
When you listen to the Vedas and the Puraanas,
ਤਬ ਹਮ ਇਤਨਕੁ ਪਸਰਿਓ ਤਾਨਾਂ ॥੧॥
tab ham itanak pasario taanaa(n) ||1||
you shall know that the whole world is only a small piece of His woven fabric. ||1||
ਧਰਨਿ ਅਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਕਰਗਹ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
dharan akaas kee karageh banaiee ||
He has made the earth and sky His loom.
ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਾਥ ਚਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
cha(n)dh sooraj dhui saath chalaiee ||2||
Upon it, He moves the two bobbins of the sun and the moon. ||2||
ਪਾਈ ਜੋਰਿ ਬਾਤ ਇਕ ਕੀਨੀ ਤਹ ਤਾਂਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾਂ ॥
paiee jor baat ik keenee teh taa(n)tee man maanaa(n) ||
Placing my feet together, I have accomplished one thing - my mind is pleased with that Weaver.
ਜੋਲਾਹੇ ਘਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਚੀਨੑਾਂ ਘਟ ਹੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾਂ ॥੩॥
jolaahe ghar apanaa cheen(h)aa(n) ghaT hee raam pachhaanaa(n) ||3||
I have come to understand my own home, and recognize the Lord within my heart. ||3||
ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕਾਰਗਹ ਤੋਰੀ ॥
kahat kabeer kaarageh toree ||
Says Kabeer, when my body workshop breaks,
ਸੂਤੈ ਸੂਤ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਕੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੩॥੩੬॥
sootai soot milaae koree ||4||3||36||
the Weaver shall blend my thread with His thread. ||4||3||36||
ਆਸਾ ॥

Aasaa:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਨ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥
a(n)tar mail je teerath naavai tis baiku(n)Th na jaanaa(n) ||
With filth within the heart, even if one bathes at sacred places of pilgrimage, still, he shall not go to heaven.
ਲੋਕ ਪਤੀਣੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਅਯਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
lok pateene kachhoo na hovai naahee raam ayaanaa ||1||
Nothing is gained by trying to please others - the Lord cannot be fooled. ||1||
ਪੂਜਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੀ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
poojahu raam ek hee dhevaa ||
Worship the One Divine Lord.
ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saachaa naavan gur kee sevaa ||1|| rahaau ||
The true cleansing bath is service to the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜਲ ਕੈ ਮਜਨਿ ਜੇ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮੇਂਡੁਕ ਨਾਵਹਿ ॥
jal kai majan je gat hovai nit nit me(n)dduk naaveh ||
If salvation can be obtained by bathing in water, then what about the frog, which is always bathing in water?
ਜੈਸੇ ਮੇਂਡੁਕ ਤੈਸੇ ਓਇ ਨਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
jaise me(n)dduk taise oi nar fir fir jonee aaveh ||2||
As is the frog, so is that mortal; he is reincarnated, over and over again. ||2||
ਮਨਹੁ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਮਰੈ ਬਾਨਾਰਸਿ ਨਰਕੁ ਨ ਬਾਂਚਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
manahu kaThor marai baanaaras narak na baa(n)chiaa jaiee ||
If the hard-hearted sinner dies in Benaares, he cannot escape hell.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਾੜੰਬੈ ਤ ਸਗਲੀ ਸੈਨ ਤਰਾਈ ॥੩॥
har kaa sa(n)t marai haaRa(n)bai ta sagalee sain taraiee ||3||
And even if the Lord's Saint dies in the cursed land of Haramba, still, he saves all his family. ||3||
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਨ ਰੈਨਿ ਬੇਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤਹਾ ਬਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
dhinas na rain bedh nahee saasatr tahaa basai nira(n)kaaraa ||
Where there is neither day nor night, and neither Vedas nor Shaastras, there, the Formless Lord abides.
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਨਰ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਬਾਵਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੩੭॥
keh kabeer nar tiseh dhiaavahu baavariaa sa(n)saaraa ||4||4||37||
Says Kabeer, meditate on Him, O mad-men of the world. ||4||4||37||
