ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਜਾਟਰੋ ਉਠਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

eeh bidh sun kai jaaTaro uTh bhagatee laagaa ||

Hearing this, Dhanna the Jaat applied himself to devotional worship.

ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਸਾਈਆ ਧੰਨਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

mile pratakh gusaieeaa dha(n)naa vaddabhaagaa ||4||2||

The Lord of the Universe met him personally; Dhanna was so very blessed. ||4||2||

ਰੇ ਚਿਤ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਦਯਾਲ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਬਿਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਕੋਈ ॥

re chit chetas kee na dhayaal dhamodhar bibeh na jaanas koiee ||

O my consciousness, why don't you remain conscious of the Merciful Lord? How can you recognize any other?

ਜੇ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

je dhaaveh brahama(n)dd kha(n)dd kau karataa karai su hoiee ||1|| rahaau ||

You may run around the whole universe, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨਨੀ ਕੇਰੇ ਉਦਰ ਉਦਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਕੀਆ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥

jananee kere udhar udhak meh pi(n)dd keeaa dhas dhuaaraa ||

In the water of the mother's womb, He fashioned the body with ten gates.

ਦੇਇ ਅਹਾਰੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਐਸਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

dhei ahaar agan meh raakhai aaisaa khasam hamaaraa ||1||

He gives it sustenance, and preserves it in fire - such is my Lord and Master. ||1||

ਕੁੰਮੀ ਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਤਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪੰਖ ਖੀਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

ku(n)mee jal maeh tan tis baahar pa(n)kh kheer tin naahee ||

The mother turtle is in the water, and her babies are out of the water. She has no wings to protect them, and no milk to feed them.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਸਮਝਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

pooran paramaana(n)dh manohar samajh dhekh man maahee ||2||

The Perfect Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss, the Fascinating Lord takes care of them. See this, and understand it in your mind||2||

ਪਾਖਣਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਤਾ ਤਾ ਚੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

paakhan keeT gupat hoi rahataa taa cho maarag naahee ||

The worm lies hidden under the stone - there is no way for him to escape.

ਕਹੈ ਧੰਨਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਮਤ ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਂਹੀ ॥੩॥੩॥

kahai dha(n)naa pooran taahoo ko mat re jeea ddaraa(n)hee ||3||3||

Says Dhanna, the Perfect Lord takes care of him. Fear not, O my soul. ||3||3||

ਆਸਾ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ

aasaa sekh fareedh jeeau kee baanee

Aasaa, The Word Of Shaykh Fareed Jee:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਦਿਲਹੁ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਜਿੰਨੑ ਸੇਈ ਸਚਿਆ ॥

dhilahu muhabat ji(n)n(h) seiee sachiaa ||

They alone are true, whose love for God is deep and heart-felt.

ਜਿਨੑ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਿ ਕਾਂਢੇ ਕਚਿਆ ॥੧॥

jin(h) man hor mukh hor s kaa(n)dde kachiaa ||1||

Those who have one thing in their heart, and something else in their mouth, are judged to be false. ||1||

ਰਤੇ ਇਸਕ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਰੰਗਿ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕੇ ॥

rate isak khudhai ra(n)g dheedhaar ke ||

Those who are imbued with love for the Lord, are delighted by His Vision.

ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਜਿਨੑ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇ ਭੁਇ ਭਾਰੁ ਥੀਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

visariaa jin(h) naam te bhui bhaar the'ee ||1|| rahaau ||

Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are a burden on the earth. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪਿ ਲੀਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਸੇ ॥

aap le'ee laR lai dhar dharaves se ||

Those whom the Lord attaches to the hem of His robe, are the true dervishes at His Door.

ਤਿਨ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਉ ਆਏ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੇ ॥੨॥

tin dha(n)n janedhee maau aae safal se ||2||

Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them, and fruitful is their coming into the world. ||2||

ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗਮ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਤੂ ॥

paravadhagaar apaar agam bea(n)t too ||

O Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher, You are infinite, unfathomable and endless.

ਜਿਨਾ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਚੁੰਮਾ ਪੈਰ ਮੂੰ ॥੩॥

jinaa pachhaataa sach chu(n)maa pair moo(n) ||3||

Those who recognize the True Lord - I kiss their feet. ||3||

ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਹ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਤੂ ਬਖਸੰਦਗੀ ॥

teree paneh khudhai too bakhasa(n)dhagee ||

I seek Your Protection - You are the Forgiving Lord.

ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦੈ ਖੈਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੰਦਗੀ ॥੪॥੧॥

sekh fareedhai khair dheejai ba(n)dhagee ||4||1||

Please, bless Shaykh Fareed with the bounty of Your meditative worship. ||4||1||

ਆਸਾ ॥

aasaa ||

Aasaa:

ਬੋਲੈ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਲਹ ਲਗੇ ॥

bolai sekh fareedh piaare aleh lage ||

Says Shaykh Fareed, O my dear friend, attach yourself to the Lord.

ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਸੀ ਖਾਕ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਗੋਰ ਘਰੇ ॥੧॥

eih tan hosee khaak nimaanee gor ghare ||1||

This body shall turn to dust, and its home shall be a neglected graveyard. ||1||

ਆਜੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਟਾਕਿਮ ਕੂੰਜੜੀਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਮਚਿੰਦੜੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

aaj milaavaa sekh fareedh Taakim koo(n)jaReeaa manahu machi(n)dhaReeaa ||1|| rahaau ||

You can meet the Lord today, O Shaykh Fareed, if you restrain your bird-like desires which keep your mind in turmoil. ||1||Pause||

ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਘੁਮਿ ਨ ਆਈਐ ॥

je jaanaa mar jaieeaai ghum na aaieeaai ||

If I had known that I was to die, and not return again,

ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਲਗਿ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

jhooThee dhuneeaa lag na aap van(j)aieeaai ||2||

I would not have ruined myself by clinging to the world of falsehood. ||2||

ਬੋਲੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਨ ਬੋਲੀਐ ॥

boleeaai sach dharam jhooTh na boleeaai ||

So speak the Truth, in righteousness, and do not speak falsehood.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੈ ਵਾਟ ਮੁਰੀਦਾ ਜੋਲੀਐ ॥੩॥

jo gur dhasai vaaT mureedhaa joleeaai ||3||

The disciple ought to travel the route, pointed out by the Guru. ||3||

ਛੈਲ ਲੰਘੰਦੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਗੋਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਿਆ ॥

chhail la(n)gha(n)dhe paar goree man dheeriaa ||

Seeing the youths being carried across, the hearts of the beautiful young soul-brides are encouraged.

ਕੰਚਨ ਵੰਨੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕਲਵਤਿ ਚੀਰਿਆ ॥੪॥

ka(n)chan va(n)ne paase kalavat cheeriaa ||4||

Those who side with the glitter of gold, are cut down with a saw. ||4||

ਸੇਖ ਹੈਯਾਤੀ ਜਗਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

sekh haiyaatee jag na koiee thir rahiaa ||

O Shaykh, no one's life is permanent in this world.

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਸਣਿ ਹਮ ਬੈਠੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੈਸਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੫॥

jis aasan ham baiThe kete bais giaa ||5||

That seat, upon which we now sit - many others sat on it and have since departed. ||5||

ਕਤਿਕ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਡਉ ਸਾਵਣਿ ਬਿਜੁਲੀਆਂ ॥

katik koo(n)jaa(n) chet ddau saavan bijuleeaa(n) ||

As the swallows appear in the month of Katik, forest fires in the month of Chayt, and lightning in Saawan,

ਸੀਆਲੇ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਰ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਂ ॥੬॥

seeaale soha(n)dheeaa(n) pir gal baahaReeaa(n) ||6||

and as the bride's arms adorn her husband's neck in winter;||6||

ਚਲੇ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਲੇਇ ਮਨੋ ॥

chale chalanahaar vichaaraa lei mano ||

Just so, the transitory human bodies pass away. Reflect upon this in your mind.

ਗੰਢੇਦਿਆਂ ਛਿਅ ਮਾਹ ਤੁੜੰਦਿਆ ਹਿਕੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥੭॥

ga(n)ddedhiaa(n) chhia maeh tuRa(n)dhiaa hik khino ||7||

It takes six months to form the body, but it breaks in an instant. ||7||

ਜਿਮੀ ਪੁਛੈ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਖੇਵਟ ਕਿੰਨਿ ਗਏ ॥

jimee puchhai asamaan fareedhaa khevaT ki(n)n ge ||

O Fareed, the earth asks the sky, ""Where have the boatmen gone?""

ਜਾਲਣ ਗੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲਿ ਉਲਾਮੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਹੇ ॥੮॥੨॥

jaalan goraa(n) naal ulaame jeea sahe ||8||2||

Some have been cremated, and some lie in their graves; their souls are suffering rebukes. ||8||2||
