Ang 491 of 1,430

ਇਹੁ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥

eih kaaran karataa kare jotee jot samai ||4||3||5||

This deed was done by the Creator Lord; one's light merges into the Light. ||4||3||5||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

goojaree mahalaa teejaa ||

Goojaree, Third Mehla:

ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਿਐ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

raam raam sabh ko kahai kahiaai raam na hoi ||

Everyone chants the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam; but by such chanting, the Lord is not obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

gur parasaadhee raam man vasai taa fal paavai koi ||1||

By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind, and then, the fruits are obtained. ||1||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

a(n)tar govi(n)dh jis laagai preet ||

One who enshrines love for God within his mind,

ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

har tis kadhe na veesarai har har kareh sadhaa man cheet ||1|| rahaau ||

never forgets the Lord; he continually chants the Lord's Name, Har, Har, in his conscious mind. ||1||Pause||

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਿਨੑ ਕੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਸੈ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਕਹਾਹਿ ॥

hiradhai jin(h) kai kapaT vasai baaharahu sa(n)t kahaeh ||

Those whose hearts are filled with hypocrisy, who are called saints only for their outward show

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

tirasanaa mool na chukiee a(n)t ge pachhutaeh ||2||

- their desires are never satisfied, and they depart grieving in the end. ||2||

ਅਨੇਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਜੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

anek teerath je jatan karai taa a(n)tar kee haumai kadhe na jai ||

Although one may bathe at many places of pilgrimage, still, his ego never departs.

ਜਿਸੁ ਨਰ ਕੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

jis nar kee dhubidhaa na jai dharam rai tis dhei sajai ||3||

That man, whose sense of duality does not depart - the Righteous Judge of Dharma shall punish him. ||3||

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

karam hovai soiee jan paae gurmukh boojhai koiee ||

That humble being, unto whom God showers His Mercy, obtains Him; how few are the Gurmukhs who understand Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥

naanak vichahu haumai maare taa(n) har bheTai soiee ||4||4||6||

O Nanak, if one conquers his ego within, then he comes to meet the Lord. ||4||4||6||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

goojaree mahalaa teejaa ||

Goojaree, Third Mehla:

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

tis jan saa(n)t sadhaa mat nihachal jis kaa abhimaan gavaae ||

That humble being who eliminates his ego is at peace; he is blessed with an ever-stable intellect.

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥

so jan niramal j gurmukh boojhai har charanee chit laae ||1||

That humble being is immaculately pure, who, as Gurmukh, understands the Lord, and focuses his consciousness on the Lord's Feet. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਚੇਤ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਇਛਹਿ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

har chet achet manaa jo ichheh so fal hoiee ||

O my unconscious mind, remain conscious of the Lord, and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪੀਵਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur parasaadhee har ras paaveh peevat raheh sadhaa sukh hoiee ||1|| rahaau ||

By Guru's Grace, you shall obtain the sublime elixir of the Lord; by continually drinking it in, you shall have eternal peace. ||1||Pause||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

satigur bheTe taa paaras hovai paaras hoi ta pooj karaae ||

When one meets the True Guru, he becomes the philosopher's stone, with the ability to transform others, inspiring them to worship the Lord.

ਜੋ ਉਸੁ ਪੂਜੇ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੨॥

jo us pooje so fal paae dheekhiaa dhevai saach bujhaae ||2||

One who worships the Lord in adoration, obtains his rewards; instructing others, he reveals the Truth. ||2||

ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਰਸੈ ਪੂਜ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਮਨ ਪਰਚੇ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ ॥

vin paarasai pooj na hoviee vin man parache avaraa samajhaae ||

Without becoming the philosopher's stone, he does not inspire others to worship the Lord; without instructing his own mind, how can he instruct others?

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾਏ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਓਹੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥

guroo sadhaae agiaanee a(n)dhaa kis oh maarag paae ||3||

The ignorant, blind man calls himself the guru, but to whom can he show the way? ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥

naanak vin nadharee kichhoo na paieeaai jis nadhar kare so paae ||

O Nanak, without His Mercy, nothing can be obtained. One upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, obtains Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਰਤਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥

gur parasaadhee dhe vaddiaaiee apanaa sabadh varataae ||4||5||7||

By Guru's Grace, God bestows greatness, and projects the Word of His Shabad. ||4||5||7||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ ॥

goojaree mahalaa teejaa pa(n)chapadhe ||

Goojaree, Third Mehla, Panch-Padhay:

ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾ ਕਾਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

naa kaasee mat uoopajai naa kaasee mat jai ||

Wisdom is not produced in Benares, nor is wisdom lost in Benares.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

satigur miliaai mat uoopajai taa ieh sojhee pai ||1||

Meeting the True Guru, wisdom is produced, and then, one obtains this understanding. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥

har kathaa too(n) sun re man sabadh ma(n)n vasai ||

Listen to the sermon of the Lord, O mind, and enshrine the Shabad of His Word within your mind.

ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

eeh mat teree thir rahai taa(n) bharam vichahu jai ||1|| rahaau ||

If your intellect remains stable and steady, then doubt shall depart from within you. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਨਾਸੁ ॥

har charan ridhai vasai too kilavikh hoveh naas ||

Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet within your heart, and your sins shall be erased.

ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥

pa(n)ch bhoo aatamaa vas kareh taa teerath kareh nivaas ||2||

If your soul overcomes the five elements, then you shall come to have a home at the true place of pilgrimage. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

manmukh ih man mugadh hai sojhee kichhoo na pai ||

This mind of the self-centered manmukh is so stupid; it does not obtain any understanding at all.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੩॥

har kaa naam na bujhiee a(n)t giaa pachhutai ||3||

It does not understand the Name of the Lord; it departs repenting in the end. ||3||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਾਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥

eih man kaasee sabh teerath simirat satigur dheeaa bujhai ||

In this mind are found Benares, all sacred shrines of pilgrimage and the Shaastras; the True Guru has explained this.

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥

aThasaTh teerath tis sa(n)g raheh jin har hiradhai rahiaa samai ||4||

The sixty-eight places of pilgrimage remain with one, whose heart is filled with the Lord. ||4||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਏਕੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

naanak satigur miliaai hukam bujhiaa ek vasiaa man aai ||

O Nanak, upon meeting the True Guru, the Order of the Lord's Will is understood, and the One Lord comes to dwell in the mind.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫॥੬॥੮॥

jo tudh bhaavai sabh sach hai sache rahai samai ||5||6||8||

Those who are pleasing to You, O True Lord, are true. They remain absorbed in You. ||5||6||8||
