ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥੧੭॥
sir sabhanaa samarath nadhar nihaaliaa ||17||
You are the Almighty Overlord of all; You bless us with Your Glance of Grace. ||17||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਸਟ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥
kaam karodh madh lobh moh dhusaT baasanaa nivaar ||
Take away my sexual desire, anger, pride, greed, emotional attachment and evil desires.
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
raakh leh prabh aapane naanak sadh balihaar ||1||
Protect me, O my God; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:
ਖਾਂਦਿਆ ਖਾਂਦਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਘਠਾ ਪੈਨੰਦਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਗੁ ॥
khaa(n)dhiaa khaa(n)dhiaa muh ghaThaa paina(n)dhiaa sabh a(n)g ||
By eating and eating, the mouth is worn out; by wearing clothes, the limbs grow weary.
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਸਚਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੨॥
naanak dhirag tinaa dhaa jeeviaa jin sach na lago ra(n)g ||2||
O Nanak, cursed are the lives of those who are not attuned to the Love of the True Lord. ||2||

Pauree:
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਹੋਵਣਾ ॥
jiau jiau teraa hukam tivai tiau hovanaa ||
As is the Hukam of Your Command, so do things happen.
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਰਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ਖੜੋਵਣਾ ॥
jeh jeh rakheh aap teh jai khaRovanaa ||
Wherever You keep me, there I go and stand.
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੈ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਧੋਵਣਾ ॥
naam terai kai ra(n)g dhuramat dhovanaa ||
With the Love of Your Name, I wash away my evil-mindedness.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਵਣਾ ॥
jap jap tudh nira(n)kaar bharam bhau khovanaa ||
By continually meditating on You, O Formless Lord, my doubts and fears are dispelled.
ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਜੋਵਣਾ ॥
jo terai ra(n)g rate se jon na jovanaa ||
Those who are attuned to Your Love, shall not be trapped in reincarnation.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਵਣਾ ॥
a(n)tar baahar ik nain alovanaa ||
Inwardly and outwardly, they behold the One Lord with their eyes.
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਰੋਵਣਾ ॥
jin(h)ee pachhaataa hukam tin(h) kadhe na rovanaa ||
Those who recognize the Lord's Command never weep.
ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਰੋਵਣਾ ॥੧੮॥
naau naanak bakhasees man maeh parovanaa ||18||
O Nanak, they are blessed with the gift of the Name, woven into the fabric of their minds. ||18||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਮੁਆ ਰਲੰਦੜੋ ਖਾਕ ॥
jeevadhiaa na chetio muaa rala(n)dhaRo khaak ||
Those who do not remember the Lord while they are alive, shall mix with the dust when they die.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਦਾਰਿਆ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਨਪਾਕ ॥੧॥
naanak dhuneeaa sa(n)g gudhaariaa saakat mooR napaak ||1||
O Nanak, the foolish and filthy faithless cynic passes his life engrossed in the world. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:
ਜੀਵੰਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਮਰੰਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
jeeva(n)dhiaa har chetiaa mara(n)dhiaa har ra(n)g ||
One who remembers the Lord while he is alive, shall be imbued with the Lord's Love when he dies.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
janam padhaarath taariaa naanak saadhoo sa(n)g ||2||
The precious gift of his life is redeemed, O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||

Pauree:
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਆਪਿ ਰਖਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ ॥
aadh jugaadhee aap rakhan vaaliaa ||
From the beginning, and through the ages, You have been our Protector and Preserver.
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
sach naam karataar sach pasaariaa ||
True is Your Name, O Creator Lord, and True is Your Creation.
ਊਣਾ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਘਟੇ ਘਟਿ ਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
uoonaa kahee na hoi ghaTe ghaT saariaa ||
You do not lack anything; You are filling each and every heart.
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥
miharavaan samarath aape hee ghaaliaa ||
You are merciful and all-powerful; You Yourself cause us to serve You.
ਜਿਨੑ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲਿਆ ॥
jin(h) man vuThaa aap se sadhaa sukhaaliaa ||
Those whose minds in which You dwell are forever at peace.
ਆਪੇ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਿਆ ॥
aape rachan rachai aape hee paaliaa ||
Having created the creation, You Yourself cherish it.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰਿਆ ॥
sabh kichh aape aap bea(n)t apaariaa ||
You Yourself are everything, O infinite, endless Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਮੑਾਲਿਆ ॥੧੯॥
gur poore kee Tek naanak sa(n)m(h)aaliaa ||19||
Nanak seeks the Protection and Support of the Perfect Guru. ||19||

ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅਰੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਰਖਿਆ ॥
aadh madh ar a(n)t paramesar rakhiaa ||
In the beginning, in the middle and in the end, the Transcendent Lord has saved me.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਖਿਆ ॥
satigur dhitaa har naam a(n)mrit chakhiaa ||
The True Guru has blessed me with the Lord's Name, and I have tasted the Ambrosial Nectar.
ਸਾਧਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ॥
saadhaa sa(n)g apaar anadhin har gun ravai ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day.
ਪਾਏ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਭਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਨਹ ਭਵੈ ॥
paae manorath sabh jonee neh bhavai ||
I have obtained all my objectives, and I shall not wander in reincarnation again.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਥਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਜੋ ਕਰੈ ॥
sabh kichh karate hath kaaran jo karai ||
Everything is in the Hands of the Creator; He does what is done.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੰਤਾ ਧੂਰਿ ਤਰੈ ॥੧॥
naanak ma(n)gai dhaan sa(n)taa dhoor tarai ||1||
Nanak begs for the gift of the dust of the feet of the Holy, which shall deliver him. ||1||

Fifth Mehla:
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
tis no ma(n)n vasai jin upaiaa ||
Enshrine Him in your mind, the One who created you.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਖਸਮੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin jan dhiaaiaa khasam tin sukh paiaa ||
Whoever meditates on the Lord and Master obtains peace.
ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
safal janam paravaan gurmukh aaiaa ||
Fruitful is the birth, and approved is the coming of the Gurmukh.
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੁਝਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਖਸਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
hukamai bujh nihaal khasam furamaiaa ||
One who realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command shall be blessed - so has the Lord and Master ordained.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੁ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
jis hoaa aap kirapaalu su neh bharamaiaa ||
One who is blessed with the Lord's Mercy does not wander.
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦਿਤਾ ਖਸਮਿ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jo jo dhitaa khasam soiee sukh paiaa ||
Whatever the Lord and Master gives him, with that he is content.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਿਤ ॥
naanak jiseh dhiaal bujhaae hukam mit ||
O Nanak, one who is blessed with the kindness of the Lord, our Friend, realizes the Hukam of His Command.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਨਿਤ ॥੨॥
jiseh bhulaae aap mar mar jameh nit ||2||
But those whom the Lord Himself causes to wander, continue to die, and take reincarnation again. ||2||

ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਤਕਾਲਿ ਖਿਨੁ ਟਿਕਣ ਨ ਦਿਤੇ ॥
ni(n)dhak maare tatakaal khin Tikan na dhite ||
The slanderers are destroyed in an instant; they are not spared for even a moment.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਖਵਿ ਸਕਹਿ ਫੜਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੁਤੇ ॥
prabh dhaas kaa dhukh na khav sakeh faR jonee jute ||
God will not endure the sufferings of His slaves, but catching the slanderers, He binds them to the cycle of reincarnation.
