ਰਾਗੁ ਬਿਹਾਗੜਾ ਚਉਪਦੇ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥

Raag Bihaagraa, Chau-Padhay, Fifth Mehla, Second House:
ਦੂਤਨ ਸੰਗਰੀਆ ॥
dhootan sa(n)gareeaa ||
To associate with your arch enemies,
ਭੁਇਅੰਗਨਿ ਬਸਰੀਆ ॥
bhuia(n)gan basareeaa ||
is to live with poisonous snakes;
ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
anik upareeaa ||1||
I have made the effort to shake them off. ||1||
ਤਉ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੀਆ ॥
tau mai har har kareeaa ||
Then, I repeated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tau sukh sahajareeaa ||1|| rahaau ||
and I obtained celestial peace. ||1||Pause||
ਮਿਥਨ ਮੋਹਰੀਆ ॥ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
mithan mohareeaa || an kau mereeaa ||
False is the love of the many emotional attachments,
ਵਿਚਿ ਘੂਮਨ ਘਿਰੀਆ ॥੨॥
vich ghooman ghireeaa ||2||
which suck the mortal into the whirlpool of reincarnation. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਬਟਰੀਆ ॥
sagal baTareeaa ||
All are travellers,
ਬਿਰਖ ਇਕ ਤਰੀਆ ॥
birakh ik tareeaa ||
who have gathered under the world-tree,
ਬਹੁ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
bahu ba(n)dheh pareeaa ||3||
and are bound by their many bonds. ||3||
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧ ਸਫਰੀਆ ॥
thir saadh safareeaa ||
Eternal is the Company of the Holy,
ਜਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰੀਆ ॥
jeh keeratan hareeaa ||
where the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are sung.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਰੀਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak saranareeaa ||4||1||
Nanak seeks this Sanctuary. ||4||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਊ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
har kee gat neh kouoo jaanai ||
No one knows the state of the Lord.
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਪਚਿ ਹਾਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗ ਸਿਆਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jogee jatee tapee pach haare ar bahu log siaane ||1|| rahaau ||
The Yogis, the celibates, the penitents, and all sorts of clever people have failed. ||1||Pause||
ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਉ ਕਰਈ ਰਾਉ ਰੰਕ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
chhin meh raau ra(n)k kau kariee raau ra(n)k kar ddaare ||
In an instant, He changes the beggar into a king, and the king into a beggar.
ਰੀਤੇ ਭਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਸਖਨਾਵੈ ਯਹ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਵਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
reete bhare bhare sakhanaavai yeh taa ko bivahaare ||1||
He fills what is empty, and empties what is full - such are His ways. ||1||
ਅਪਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਹਿ ਦੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
apanee maiaa aap pasaaree aapeh dhekhanahaaraa ||
He Himself spread out the expanse of His Maya, and He Himself beholds it.
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਧਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
naanaa roop dhare bahu ra(n)gee sabh te rahai niaaraa ||2||
He assumes so many forms, and plays so many games, and yet, He remains detached from it all. ||2||
ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਜਿਹ ਸਭ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਾਇਓ ॥
aganat apaar alakh nira(n)jan jeh sabh jag bharamaio ||
Incalculable, infinite, incomprehensible and immaculate is He, who has misled the entire world.
ਸਗਲ ਭਰਮ ਤਜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੩॥੧॥੨॥
sagal bharam taj naanak praanee charan taeh chit laio ||3||1||2||
Cast off all your doubts; prays Nanak, O mortal, focus your consciousness on His Feet. ||3||1||2||

har har naam dhiaaieeaai meree ji(n)dhuRe'e gurmukh naam amole raam ||
Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my soul; as Gurmukh, meditate on the invaluable Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਬੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਝਕੋਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har ras beedhaa har man piaaraa man har ras naam jhakole raam ||
My mind is pierced through by the sublime essence of the Lord's Name. The Lord is dear to my mind. With the sublime essence of the Lord's Name, my mind is washed clean.
