ਰਾਜਨ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਇਆ ਤੂ ਨੀਦ ਭਰੇ ਜਾਗਤ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
raajan kiau soiaa too needh bhare jaagat kat naahee raam ||
O king, why are you sleeping? Why don't you wake up to reality?
ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੁ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
maiaa jhooTh rudhan kete bilalaahee raam ||
It is useless to cry and whine about Maya, but so many cry out and bewail.
ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ॥
bilalaeh kete mahaa mohan bin naam har ke sukh nahee ||
So many cry out for Maya, the great enticer, but without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਾਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਹ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
sahas siaanap upaav thaake jeh bhaavat teh jaahee ||
Thousands of clever tricks and efforts will not succeed. One goes wherever the Lord wills him to go.
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥
aadh a(n)te madh pooran sarabatr ghaT ghaT aahee ||
In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is all-pervading everywhere; He is in each and every heart.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮੁ ਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
binava(n)t naanak jin saadhasa(n)gam se pat setee ghar jaahee ||2||
Prays Nanak, those who join the Saadh Sangat go to the house of the Lord with honor. ||2||
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
narapat jaan grahio sevak siaane raam ||
O king of mortals, know that your palaces and wise servants shall be of no use in the end.
ਸਰਪਰ ਵੀਛੁੜਣਾ ਮੋਹੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sarapar veechhuRanaa mohe pachhutaane raam ||
You shall certainly have to separate yourself from them, and their attachment shall make you feel regret.
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
haricha(n)dhauree dhekh bhoolaa kahaa asathit paieeaai ||
Beholding the phantom city, you have gone astray; how can you now find stability?
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਨ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
bin naam har ke aan rachanaa ahilaa janam gavaieeaai ||
Absorbed in things other than the Name of the Lord, this human life is wasted in vain.
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥
hau hau karat na tirasan boojhai neh kaa(n)m pooran giaane ||
Indulging in egotistical actions, your thirst is not quenched. Your desires are not fulfilled, and you do not attain spiritual wisdom.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
binava(n)t naanak bin naam har ke ketiaa pachhutaane ||3||
Prays Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, so many have departed with regret. ||3||
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
dhaar anugraho apanaa kar leenaa raam ||
Showering His blessings, the Lord has made me His own.
ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhujaa geh kaadd leeo saadhoo sa(n)g dheenaa raam ||
Grasping me by the arm, He has pulled me out of the mud, and He has blessed me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥
saadhasa(n)gam har araadhe sagal kalamal dhukh jale ||
Worshipping the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, all my sins and sufferings are burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਦਾਨ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੇ ਚਲੇ ॥
mahaa dharam sudhaan kiriaa sa(n)g terai se chale ||
This is the greatest religion, and the best act of charity; this alone shall go along with you.
ਰਸਨਾ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ॥
rasanaa araadhai ek suaamee har naam man tan bheenaa ||
My tongue chants in adoration the Name of the One Lord and Master; my mind and body are drenched in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਬੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
naanak jis no har milaae so sarab gun parabeenaa ||4||6||9||
O Nanak, whoever the Lord unites with Himself, is filled with all virtues. ||4||6||9||

Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
gur sevaa te sukh paieeaai hor thai sukh na bhaal ||
Serving the Guru, peace is obtained; do not search for peace anywhere else.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੇਦੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
gur kai sabadh man bhedheeaai sadhaa vasai har naal ||
The soul is pierced by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. The Lord dwells ever with the soul.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
naanak naam tinaa kau milai jin har vekhai nadhar nihaal ||1||
O Nanak, they alone obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, who are blessed by the Lord with His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Third Mehla:
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਸੋ ਖਰਚੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
sifat khajaanaa bakhas hai jis bakhasai so kharachai khai ||
The treasure of the Lord's Praise is such a blessed gift; he alone obtains it to spend, unto whom the Lord bestows it.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸਭ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
satigur bin hath na aaviee sabh thake karam kamai ||
Without the True Guru, it does not come to hand; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਧਨਹੀਣੁ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਭੁਖਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak manmukh jagat dhanaheen hai agai bhukhaa k khai ||2||
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs of the world lack this wealth; when they are hungry in the next world, what will they have to eat there? ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਸਭਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
sabh teree too sabhas dhaa sabh tudh upaiaa ||
All are Yours, and You belong to all. You created all.
ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sabhanaa vich too varatadhaa too sabhanee dhiaaiaa ||
You are pervading within all - all meditate on You.
ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
tis dhee too bhagat thai paieh jo tudh man bhaiaa ||
You accept the devotional worship of those who are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
jo har prabh bhaavai so theeaai sabh karan teraa karaiaa ||
Whatever pleases the Lord God happens; all act as You cause them to act.
ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
salaahih har sabhanaa te vaddaa jo sa(n)t janaa(n) kee paij rakhadhaa aaiaa ||1||
Praise the Lord, the greatest of all; He preserves the honor of the Saints. ||1||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa teejaa ||
Shalok, Third Mehla:
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤਾ ਜਗਿ ਜੀਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
naanak giaanee jag jeetaa jag jeetaa sabh koi ||
O Nanak, the spiritually wise one has conquered all others.
ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naame kaaraj sidh hai sahaje hoi su hoi ||
Through the Name, his affairs are brought to perfection; whatever happens is by His Will.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਚਲੁ ਹੈ ਚਲਾਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
gurmat mat achal hai chalai na sakai koi ||
Under Guru's Instruction, his mind is held steady; no one can make him waver.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagataa kaa har a(n)geekaar kare kaaraj suhaavaa hoi ||
The Lord makes His devotee His own, and his affairs are adjusted.
