ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥
haumai maar manasaa maneh samaanee gur kai sabadh pachhaataa ||4||
Overcoming my egotism and quieting the desires within my mind, I have come to realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||4||
ਅਚਿੰਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
achi(n)t ka(n)m kareh prabh tin ke jin har kaa naam piaaraa ||
God automatically does the work of those who love the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
gur parasaadh sadhaa man vasiaa sabh kaaj savaaranahaaraa ||
By Guru's Grace, he ever dwells in their minds, and He resolves all their affairs.
ਓਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਵਿਗੁਚੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
onaa kee rees kare su viguchai jin har prabh hai rakhavaaraa ||5||
Whoever challenges them is destroyed; they have the Lord God as their Savior. ||5||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥
bin satigur seve kinai na paiaa manmukh bhauk mue bilalaiee ||
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; the self-willed manmukhs die crying out in pain.
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
aaveh jaaveh Thaur na paaveh dhukh meh dhukh samaiee ||
They come and go, and find no place of rest; in pain and suffering, they perish.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥
gurmukh hovai su a(n)mrit peevai sahaje saach samaiee ||6||
But one who becomes Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, and is easily absorbed in the True Name. ||6||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥
bin satigur seve janam na chhoddai je anek karam karai adhikaiee ||
Without serving the True Guru, one cannot escape reincarnation, even by performing numerous rituals.
ਵੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਤੈ ਵਾਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
vedh paReh tai vaadh vakhaaneh bin har pat gavaiee ||
Those who read the Vedas, and argue and debate without the Lord, lose their honor.
ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਜਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੭॥
sachaa satigur saachee jis baanee bhaj chhooTeh gur saranaiee ||7||
True is the True Guru, and True is the Word of His Bani; in the Guru's Sanctuary, one is saved. ||7||
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥
jin har man vasiaa se dhar saache dhar saachai sachiaaraa ||
Those whose minds are filled with the Lord are judged as true in the Court of the Lord; they are hailed as true in the True Court.
ਓਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਹੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
onaa dhee sobhaa jug jug hoiee koi na meTanahaaraa ||
Their praises echo throughout the ages, and no one can erase them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak tin kai sadh balihaarai jin har raakhiaa ur dhaaraa ||8||1||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts. ||8||1||
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਦੁਤੁਕੀ ॥
soraTh mahalaa teejaa dhutukee ||
Sorat'h, Third Mehla, Dho-Thukay:
ਨਿਗੁਣਿਆ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇ ॥
niguniaa no aape bakhas le bhaiee satigur kee sevaa lai ||
He Himself forgives the worthless, O Siblings of Destiny; He commits them to the service of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਊਤਮ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
satigur kee sevaa uootam hai bhaiee raam naam chit lai ||1||
Service to the True Guru is sublime, O Siblings of Destiny; through it, one's consciousness is attached to the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
har jeeau aape bakhas milai ||
The Dear Lord forgives, and unites with Himself.
ਗੁਣਹੀਣ ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਲਏ ਰਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gunaheen ham aparaadhee bhaiee poorai satigur le ralai || rahaau ||
I am a sinner, totally without virtue, O Siblings of Destiny; the Perfect True Guru has blended me. ||Pause||
ਕਉਣ ਕਉਣ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਬਖਸਿਅਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
kaun kaun aparaadhee bakhasian piaare saachai sabadh veechaar ||
So many, so many sinners have been forgiven, O beloved one, by contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.
ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੇੜੈ ਚਾੜਿ ॥੨॥
bhaujal paar utaarian bhaiee satigur beRai chaaR ||2||
They got on board the boat of the True Guru, who carried them across the terrifying world-ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||2||
ਮਨੂਰੈ ਤੇ ਕੰਚਨ ਭਏ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
manoorai te ka(n)chan bhe bhaiee gur paaras mel milai ||
I have been transformed from rusty iron into gold, O Siblings of Destiny, united in Union with the Guru, the Philosopher's Stone.
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
aap chhodd naau man vasiaa bhaiee jotee jot milai ||3||
Eliminating my self-conceit, the Name has come to dwell within my mind, O Siblings of Destiny; my light has merged in the Light. ||3||
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
hau vaaree hau vaaranai bhaiee satigur kau sadh balihaarai jaau ||
I am a sacrifice, I am a sacrifice, O Siblings of Destiny, I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੪॥
naam nidhaan jin dhitaa bhaiee gurmat sahaj samaau ||4||
He has given me the treasure of the Naam; O Siblings of Destiny, through the Guru's Teachings, I am absorbed in celestial bliss. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur bin sahaj na uoopajai bhaiee poochhahu giaaneeaa jai ||
Without the Guru, celestial peace is not produced, O Siblings of Destiny; go and ask the spiritual teachers about this.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੫॥
satigur kee sevaa sadhaa kar bhaiee vichahu aap gavai ||5||
Serve the True Guru forever, O Siblings of Destiny, and eradicate self-conceit from within. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਉ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਭਉ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gurmatee bhau uoopajai bhaiee bhau karanee sach saar ||
Under Guru's Instruction, the Fear of God is produced, O Siblings of Destiny; true and excellent are the deeds done in the Fear of God.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
prem padhaarath paieeaai bhaiee sach naam aadhaar ||6||
Then, one is blessed with the treasure of the Lord's Love, O Siblings of Destiny, and the Support of the True Name. ||6||
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
jo satigur seveh aapanaa bhaiee tin kai hau laagau pai ||
I fall at the feet of those who serve their True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਕੁਲੁ ਭੀ ਲਈ ਬਖਸਾਇ ॥੭॥
janam savaaree aapanaa bhaiee kul bhee liee bakhasai ||7||
I have fulfilled my life, O Siblings of Destiny, and my family has been saved as well. ||7||
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
sach baanee sach sabadh hai bhaiee gur kirapaa te hoi ||
The True Word of the Guru's Bani, and the True Word of the Shabad, O Siblings of Destiny, are obtained only by Guru's Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak naam har man vasai bhaiee tis bighan na laagai koi ||8||2||
O Nanak, with the Name of the Lord abiding in one's mind, no obstacles stand in one's way, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8||2||
