ਕਾਮ ਹੇਤਿ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਲੈ ਫਾਂਕਿਓ ਓਹੁ ਪਰ ਵਸਿ ਭਇਓ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
kaam het ku(n)char lai faa(n)kio oh par vas bhio bichaaraa ||
Lured by sexual desire, the elephant is trapped; the poor beast falls into the power of another.
ਨਾਦ ਹੇਤਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਕੁਰੰਕਾ ਉਸ ਹੀ ਹੇਤ ਬਿਦਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
naadh het sir ddaario kura(n)kaa us hee het bidhaaraa ||2||
Lured by the sound of the hunter's bell, the deer offers its head; because of this enticement, it is killed. ||2||
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥
dhekh kuTa(n)b lobh mohio praanee maiaa kau lapaTaanaa ||
Gazing upon his family, the mortal is enticed by greed; he clings in attachment to Maya.
ਅਤਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਉਨਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਰਾਪਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
at rachio kar leeno apunaa un chhodd saraapar jaanaa ||3||
Totally engrossed in worldly things, he considers them to be his own; but in the end, he shall surely have to leave them behind. ||3||
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਅਵਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਨੇਹਾ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
bin gobi(n)dh avar sa(n)g nehaa oh jaanahu sadhaa dhuhelaa ||
Know it well, that anyone who loves any other than God, shall be miserable forever.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਇਹੈ ਬੁਝਾਇਓ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦ ਕੇਲਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
kahu naanak gur ihai bujhaio preet prabhoo sadh kelaa ||4||2||
Says Nanak, the Guru has explained this to me, that love for God brings lasting bliss. ||4||2||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਓ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਛੁਟਕਾਏ ॥
kar kirapaa dheeo moh naamaa ba(n)dhan te chhuTakaae ||
Granting His Grace, God has blessed me with His Name, and released me of my bonds.
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਸਗਲੋ ਧੰਧਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
man te bisario sagalo dha(n)dhaa gur kee charanee laae ||1||
I have forgotten all worldly entanglements, and I am attached to the Guru's feet. ||1||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਬਿਰਾਨੀ ਛਾਡੀ ॥
saadhasa(n)g chi(n)t biraanee chhaaddee ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have renounced my other cares and anxieties.
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮੋਹ ਮਨ ਬਾਸਨ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਗਡਹਾ ਗਾਡੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aha(n)budh moh man baasan dhe kar gaddahaa gaaddee ||1|| rahaau ||
I dug a deep pit, and buried my egotistical pride, emotional attachment and the desires of my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਿਸ ਕੇ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥
naa ko meraa dhusaman rahiaa naa ham kis ke bairaiee ||
No one is my enemy, and I am no one's enemy.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਾਰੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਓ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
braham pasaar pasaario bheetar satigur te sojhee paiee ||2||
God, who expanded His expanse, is within all; I learned this from the True Guru. ||2||
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਮ ਸਭਨਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਜਨ ॥
sabh ko meet ham aapan keenaa ham sabhanaa ke saajan ||
I am a friend to all; I am everyone's friend.
ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਇਓ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਤਾ ਮੇਲੁ ਕੀਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਾਜਨ ॥੩॥
dhoor paraio man kaa birahaa taa mel keeo merai raajan ||3||
When the sense of separation was removed from my mind, then I was united with the Lord, my King. ||3||
ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਢੀਠਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੂਠਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
binasio ddeeThaa a(n)mrit vooThaa sabadh lago gur meeThaa ||
My stubbornness is gone, Ambrosial Nectar rains down, and the Word of the Guru's Shabad seems so sweet to me.
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਮਈਆ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
jal thal maheeal sarab nivaasee naanak ramieeaa ddeeThaa ||4||3||
He is pervading everywhere, in the water, on the land and in the sky; Nanak beholds the all-pervading Lord. ||4||3||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਬ ਤੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਭਲੇ ਦਿਨਸ ਓਇ ਆਏ ॥
jab te dharasan bheTe saadhoo bhale dhinas oi aae ||
Ever since I obtained the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Holy, my days have been blessed and prosperous.
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
mahaa ana(n)dh sadhaa kar keeratan purakh bidhaataa paae ||1||
I have found lasting bliss, singing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Primal Lord, the Architect of destiny. ||1||
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਜਸੋ ਮਨਿ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
ab moh raam jaso man gaio ||
Now, I sing the Praises of the Lord within my mind.
ਭਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhio pragaas sadhaa sukh man meh satigur pooraa paio ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind has been illumined and enlightened, and it is always at peace; I have found the Perfect True Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਰਿਦ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
gun nidhaan ridh bheetar vasiaa taa dhookh bharam bhau bhaagaa ||
The Lord, the treasure of virtue, abides deep within the heart, and so pain, doubt and fear have been dispelled.
ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
bhiee paraapat vasat agochar raam naam ra(n)g laagaa ||2||
I have obtained the most incomprehensible thing, enshrining love for the Name of the Lord. ||2||
ਚਿੰਤ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ਸੋਚ ਅਸੋਚਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਥਾਕਾ ॥
chi(n)t achi(n)taa soch asochaa sog lobh moh thaakaa ||
I was anxious, and now I am free of anxiety; I was worried, and now I am free of worry; my grief, greed and emotional attachments are gone.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਬਿਬਾਕਾ ॥੩॥
haumai rog miTe kirapaa te jam te bhe bibaakaa ||3||
By His Grace, I am cured of the disease of egotism, and the Messenger of Death no longer terrifies me. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਭਾਣੀ ॥
gur kee Tahal guroo kee sevaa gur kee aagiaa bhaanee ||
Working for the Guru, serving the Guru and the Guru's Command, all are pleasing to me.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਕਾਢੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੪॥
kahu naanak jin jam te kaadde tis gur kai kurabaanee ||4||4||
Says Nanak, He has released me from the clutches of Death; I am a sacrifice to that Guru. ||4||4||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੀ ॥
jis kaa tan man dhan sabh tis kaa soiee sughaR sujaanee ||
Body, mind, wealth and everything belong to Him; He alone is all-wise and all-knowing.
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਉ ਬਿਧਿ ਨੀਕੀ ਖਟਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
tin hee suniaa dhukh sukh meraa tau bidh neekee khaTaanee ||1||
He listens to my pains and pleasures, and then my condition improves. ||1||
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਏਕੈ ਹੀ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
jeea kee ekai hee peh maanee ||
My soul is satisfied with the One Lord alone.
ਅਵਰਿ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
avar jatan kar rahe bahutere tin til nahee keemat jaanee || rahaau ||
People make all sorts of other efforts, but they have no value at all. ||Pause||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਮੰਤਾਨੀ ॥
a(n)mirat naam niramolak heeraa gur dheeno ma(n)taanee ||
The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a priceless jewel. The Guru has given me this advice.
ਡਿਗੈ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
ddigai na ddolai dhiraR kar rahio pooran hoi tirapataanee ||2||
It cannot be lost, and it cannot be shaken off; it remains steady, and I am perfectly satisfied with it. ||2||
ਓਇ ਜੁ ਬੀਚ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਲਾਨੀ ॥
oi ju beech ham tum kachh hote tin kee baat bilaanee ||
Those things which tore me away from You, Lord, are now gone.
