ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਹੁ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
nimakh nimakh tum hee pratipaalahu ham baarik tumare dhaare ||1||
Each and every moment, You cherish and nurture me; I am Your child, and I rely upon You alone. ||1||
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਏਕ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
jihavaa ek kavan gun kaheeaai ||
I have only one tongue - which of Your Glorious Virtues can I describe?
ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
besumaar bea(n)t suaamee tero a(n)t na kin hee laheeaai ||1|| rahaau ||
Unlimited, infinite Lord and Master - no one knows Your limits. ||1||Pause||
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਖੰਡਹੁ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਧੀ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ॥
koT paraadh hamaare kha(n)ddahu anik bidhee samajhaavahu ||
You destroy millions of my sins, and teach me in so many ways.
ਹਮ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅਲਪ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਆਪਨ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
ham agiaan alap mat thoree tum aapan biradh rakhaavahu ||2||
I am so ignorant - I understand nothing at all. Please honor Your innate nature, and save me! ||2||
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸਜਨ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
tumaree saran tumaaree aasaa tum hee sajan suhele ||
I seek Your Sanctuary - You are my only hope. You are my companion, and my best friend.
ਰਾਖਹੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਗੋਲੇ ॥੩॥੧੨॥
raakhahu raakhanahaar dhiaalaa naanak ghar ke gole ||3||12||
Save me, O Merciful Saviour Lord; Nanak is the slave of Your home. ||3||12||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਪੂਜਾ ਵਰਤ ਤਿਲਕ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਬਹੁ ਦੈਨ ॥
poojaa varat tilak isanaanaa pu(n)n dhaan bahu dhain ||
Worship, fasting, ceremonial marks on one's forehead, cleansing baths, generous donations to charities and self-mortification
ਕਹੂੰ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੰਜਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਮੀਠੇ ਬੈਨ ॥੧॥
kahoo(n) na bheejai sa(n)jam suaamee boleh meeThe bain ||1||
- the Lord Master is not pleased with any of these rituals, no matter how sweetly one may speak. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨ ਚੈਨ ॥
prabh jee ko naam japat man chain ||
Chanting the Name of God, the mind is soothed and pacified.
ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲੈਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bahu prakaar khojeh sabh taa kau bikham na jaiee lain ||1|| rahaau ||
Everyone searches for Him in different ways, but the search is so difficult, and He cannot be found. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਭ੍ਰਮਨ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਉਰਧ ਤਾਪ ਲੈ ਗੈਨ ॥
jaap taap bhraman basudhaa kar uradh taap lai gain ||
Chanting, deep meditation and penance, wandering over the face of the earth, the performance of austerities with the arms stretched up to the sky
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਆਨੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਨ ॥੨॥
eeh bidh neh pateeaano Thaakur jog jugat kar jain ||2||
- the Lord is not pleased by any of these means, though one may follow the path of Yogis and Jains. ||2||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਓ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪੈਨ ॥
a(n)mirat naam niramolak har jas tin paio jis kirapain ||
The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, and the Praises of the Lord are priceless; he alone obtains them, whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭੇਟੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਜਨ ਰੈਨ ॥੩॥੧੩॥
saadhasa(n)g ra(n)g prabh bheTe naanak sukh jan rain ||3||13||
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak lives in the Love of God; his life-night passes in peace. ||3||13||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਛੁਟਕਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
ba(n)dhan te chhuTakaavai prabhoo milaavai har har naam sunaavai ||
Is there anyone who can release me from my bondage, unite me with God, recite the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
asathir kare nihachal ih manooaa bahur na katahoo dhaavai ||1||
and make this mind steady and stable, so that it no longer wanders around? ||1||
ਹੈ ਕੋਊ ਐਸੋ ਹਮਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
hai kouoo aaiso hamaraa meet ||
Do I have any such friend?
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਹੀਉ ਦੇਉ ਅਰਪਉ ਅਪਨੋ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal samagree jeeau heeau dheau arapau apano cheet ||1|| rahaau ||
I would give him all my property, my soul and my heart; I would devote my consciousness to him. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਇਨ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
par dhan par tan par kee ni(n)dhaa in siau preet na laagai ||
Others' wealth, others' bodies, and the slander of others - do not attach your love to them.
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗੁ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਭਾਖਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥੨॥
sa(n)teh sa(n)g sa(n)t sa(n)bhaakhan har keeratan man jaagai ||2||
Associate with the Saints, speak with the Saints, and keep your mind awake to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||2||
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
gun nidhaan dhiaal purakh prabh sarab sookh dhiaalaa ||
God is the treasure of virtue, kind and compassionate, the source of all comfort.
ਮਾਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਉ ਮਾਤਾ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥੧੪॥
maagai dhaan naam tero naanak jiau maataa baal gupaalaa ||3||14||
Nanak begs for the gift of Your Name; O Lord of the world, love him, like the mother loves her child. ||3||14||
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa ||
Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਉਬਾਰਿ ॥
har har leene sa(n)t ubaar ||
The Lord saves His Saints.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har ke dhaas kee chitavai buriaaiee tis hee kau fir maar ||1|| rahaau ||
One who wishes misfortune upon the Lord's slaves, shall be destroyed by the Lord eventually. ||1||Pause||
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਆ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਭਾਗੇ ਹਾਰਿ ॥
jan kaa aap sahaiee hoaa ni(n)dhak bhaage haar ||
He Himself is the help and support of His humble servants; He defeats the slanderers, and chases them away.
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਊਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੂਏ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਨ ਮੰਝਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
bhramat bhramat uoohaa(n) hee mooe baahuR gireh na ma(n)jhaar ||1||
Wandering around aimlessly, they die out there; they never return to their homes again. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
naanak saran pario dhukh bha(n)jan gun gaavai sadhaa apaar ||
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Destroyer of pain; he sings the Glorious Praises of the infinite Lord forever.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਆ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੧੫॥
ni(n)dhak kaa mukh kaalaa hoaa dheen dhuneeaa kai dharabaar ||2||15||
The faces of the slanderers are blackened in the courts of this world, and the world beyond. ||2||15||

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:
ਅਬ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੁ ਚਿਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
ab har raakhanahaar chitaariaa ||
Now, I contemplate and meditate on the Lord, the Saviour Lord.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਗਲਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
patit puneet ke'ee khin bheetar sagalaa rog bidhaariaa ||1|| rahaau ||
He purifies sinners in an instant, and cures all diseases. ||1||Pause||
ਗੋਸਟਿ ਭਈ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਮਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
gosaT bhiee saadh kai sa(n)gam kaam karodh lobh maariaa ||
Talking with the Holy Saints, my sexual desire, anger and greed have been eradicated.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
simar simar pooran naarain sa(n)gee sagale taariaa ||1||
Remembering, remembering the Perfect Lord in meditation, I have saved all my companions. ||1||
