ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥

aaisaa naam nira(n)jan dheau ||

Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord.

ਹਉ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

hau jaachik too alakh abheau ||1|| rahaau ||

I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥

maiaa moh dharakaTee naar || bhoo(n)ddee kaaman kaamaniaar ||

Love of Maya is like a cursed woman, ugly, dirty and promiscuous.

ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥

raaj roop jhooThaa dhin chaar ||

Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days.

ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥

naam milai chaanan a(n)dhiaar ||2||

But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2||

ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

chakh chhoddee sahasaa nahee koi ||

I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts.

ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

baap dhisai vejaat na hoi ||

One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate.

ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥

eke kau naahee bhau koi ||

One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear.

ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

karataa kare karaavai soi ||3||

The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥

sabadh mue man man te maariaa ||

One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind.

ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥

Thaak rahe man saachai dhaariaa ||

Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

avar na soojhai gur kau vaariaa ||

He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥

naanak naam rate nisataariaa ||4||3||

O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

bilaaval mahalaa pehilaa ||

Bilaaval, First Mehla:

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੇ ॥

gur bachanee man sahaj dhiaane ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the mind intuitively meditates on the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੇ ॥

har kai ra(n)g rataa man maane ||

Imbued with the Lord's Love, the mind is satisfied.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਬਉਰਾਨੇ ॥

manmukh bharam bhule bauraane ||

The insane, self-willed manmukhs wander around, deluded by doubt.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੧॥

har bin kiau raheeaai gur sabadh pachhaane ||1||

Without the Lord, how can anyone survive? Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized. ||1||

ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

bin dharasan kaise jeevau meree maiee ||

Without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, how can I live, O my mother?

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

har bin jeearaa reh na sakai khin satigur boojh bujhaiee ||1|| rahaau ||

Without the Lord, my soul cannot survive, even for an instant; the True Guru has helped me understand this. ||1||Pause||

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਹਉ ਮਰਉ ਦੁਖਾਲੀ ॥

meraa prabh bisarai hau marau dhukhaalee ||

Forgetting my God, I die in pain.

ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲੀ ॥

saas giraas japau apune har bhaalee ||

With each breath and morsel of food, I meditate on my Lord, and seek Him.

ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥

sadh bairaagan har naam nihaalee ||

I remain always detached, but I am enraptured with the Lord's Name.

ਅਬ ਜਾਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥੨॥

ab jaane gurmukh har naalee ||2||

Now, as Gurmukh, I know that the Lord is always with me. ||2||

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥

akath kathaa kaheeaai gur bhai ||

The Unspoken Speech is spoken, by the Will of the Guru.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥

prabh agam agochar dhei dhikhai ||

He shows us that God is unapproachable and unfathomable.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

bin gur karanee kiaa kaar kamai ||

Without the Guru, what lifestyle could we practice, and what work could we do?

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

haumai meT chalai gur sabadh samai ||3||

Eradicating egotism, and walking in harmony with the Guru's Will, I am absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||3||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

manmukh vichhuRai khoTee raas ||

The self-willed manmukhs are separated from the Lord, gathering false wealth.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

gurmukh naam milai saabaas ||

The Gurmukhs are celebrated with the glory of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥

har kirapaa dhaaree dhaasan dhaas ||

The Lord has showered His Mercy upon me, and made me the slave of His slaves.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

jan naanak har naam dhan raas ||4||4||

The Name of the Lord is the wealth and capital of servant Nanak. ||4||4||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੧

bilaaval mahalaa teejaa ghar pehilaa

Bilaaval, Third Mehla, First House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ikOankaar satigur prasaadh ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਅੰਗਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥

dhirag dhirag khaiaa dhirag dhirag soiaa dhirag dhirag kaapaR a(n)g chaRaiaa ||

Cursed, cursed is the food; cursed, cursed is the sleep; cursed, cursed are the clothes worn on the body.

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹਿਤ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੁਣਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

dhirag sareer kuTa(n)b sahit siau jit hun khasam na paiaa ||

Cursed is the body, along with family and friends, when one does not find his Lord and Master in this life.

ਪਉੜੀ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

pauRee chhuRakee fir haath na aavai ahilaa janam gavaiaa ||1||

He misses the step of the ladder, and this opportunity will not come into his hands again; his life is wasted, uselessly. ||1||

ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਣਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥

dhoojaa bhaau na dheiee liv laagan jin har ke charan visaare ||

The love of duality does not allow him to lovingly focus his attention on the Lord; he forgets the Feet of the Lord.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤੈ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jagajeevan dhaataa jan sevak tere tin ke tai dhookh nivaare ||1|| rahaau ||

O Life of the World, O Great Giver, you eradicate the sorrows of your humble servants. ||1||Pause||

ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਏਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥

too dhiaal dhiaapat dhaataa kiaa eh ja(n)t vichaare ||

You are Merciful, O Great Giver of Mercy; what are these poor beings?

ਮੁਕਤ ਬੰਧ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਐਸਾ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥

mukat ba(n)dh sabh tujh te hoe aaisaa aakh vakhaane ||

All are liberated or placed into bondage by You; this is all one can say.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੰਧ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

gurmukh hovai so mukat kaheeaai manmukh ba(n)dh vichaare ||2||

One who becomes Gurmukh is said to be liberated, while the poor self-willed manmukhs are in bondage. ||2||

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

so jan mukat jis ek liv laagee sadhaa rahai har naale ||

He alone is liberated, who lovingly focuses his attention on the One Lord, always dwelling with the Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

tin kee gahan gat kahee na jaiee sachai aap savaare ||

His depth and condition cannot be described. The True Lord Himself embellishes him.
