ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਹਿਰਡ ਪਲਾਸ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਹੀਆ ॥੧॥
mil satasa(n)gat param padh paiaa mai hiradd palaas sa(n)g har buheeaa ||1||
Joining the Society of the Saints, I have obtained the supreme status. I am just a castor-oil tree, made fragrant by their association. ||1||
ਜਪਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਈਆ ॥
jap jaga(n)naath jagadhees gusieeaa ||
Meditate on the Lord of the Universe, the Master of the world, the Lord of creation.
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran pare seiee jan ubare jiau prahilaadh udhaar samieeaa ||1|| rahaau ||
Those humble beings who seek the Lord's Sanctuary are saved, like Prahlaad; they are emancipated and merge with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਊਤਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸਭ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹੁਈਆ ॥
bhaar aThaareh meh cha(n)dhan uootam cha(n)dhan nikaT sabh cha(n)dhan huieeaa ||
Of all plants, the sandalwood tree is the most sublime. Everything near the sandalwood tree becomes fragrant like sandalwood.
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਊਭ ਸੁਕ ਹੂਏ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੨॥
saakat kooRe uoobh suk hooe man abhimaan vichhuR dhoor gieeaa ||2||
The stubborn, false faithless cynics are dried up; their egotistical pride separates them far from the Lord. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਈਆ ॥
har gat mit karataa aape jaanai sabh bidh har har aap banieeaa ||
Only the Creator Lord Himself knows the state and condition of everyone; the Lord Himself makes all the arrangements.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੁ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮਿਟਈਆ ॥੩॥
jis satigur bheTe su ka(n)chan hovai jo dhur likhiaa su miTai na miTieeaa ||3||
One who meets the True Guru is transformed into gold. Whatever is pre-ordained, is not erased by erasing. ||3||
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਖੁਲੑਈਆ ॥
ratan padhaarath gurmat paavai saagar bhagat bha(n)ddaar khul(h)ieeaa ||
The treasure of jewels is found in the ocean of the Guru's Teachings. The treasure of devotional worship is opened to me.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਇਕ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਭਈਆ ॥੪॥
gur charanee ik saradhaa upajee mai har gun kahate tirapat na bhieeaa ||4||
Focused on the Guru's Feet, faith wells up within me; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I hunger for more. ||4||
ਪਰਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਕਹੀਆ ॥
param bairaag nit nit har dhiaae mai har gun kahate bhaavanee kaheeaa ||
I am totally detached, continually, continuously meditating on the Lord; chanting the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I express my love for Him.
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਈਆ ॥੫॥
baar baar khin khin pal kaheeaai har paar na paavai parai parieeaa ||5||
Time and time again, each and every moment and instant, I express it. I cannot find the Lord's limits; He is the farthest of the far. ||5||
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
saasat bedh puraan pukaareh dharam karahu khaT karam dhiraRieeaa ||
The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas advise righteous actions, and the performance of the six religious rituals.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਨਾਵ ਭਾਰਿ ਬੁਡਈਆ ॥੬॥
manmukh paakha(n)dd bharam vigoote lobh lahar naav bhaar buddieeaa ||6||
The hypocritical, self-willed manmukhs are ruined by doubt; in the waves of greed, their boat is heavily loaded, and it sinks. ||6||
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
naam japahu naame gat paavahu simirat saasatr naam dhiraRieeaa ||
So chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and through the Naam, find emancipation. The Simritees and Shaastras recommend the Naam.
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥
haumai jai ta niramal hovai gurmukh parachai param padh pieeaa ||7||
Eradicating egotism, one becomes pure. The Gurmukh is inspired, and obtains the supreme status. ||7||
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਰਨੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਈਆ ॥
eih jag varan roop sabh teraa jit laaveh se karam kamieeaa ||
This world, with its colors and forms, is all Yours, O Lord; as You attach us, so do we do our deeds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਈਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥
naanak ja(n)t vajaae vaajeh jit bhaavai tit raeh chalieeaa ||8||2||5||
O Nanak, we are the instruments upon which He plays; as He wills, so is the path we take. ||8||2||5||
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
bilaaval mahalaa chauthhaa ||
Bilaaval, Fourth Mehla:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਈਆ ॥
gurmukh agam agochar dhiaaiaa hau bal bal satigur sat purakhieeaa ||
The Gurmukh meditates on the Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the True Guru, the True Primal Being.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥
raam naam merai praan vasaae satigur paras har naam samieeaa ||1||
He has brought the Lord's Name to dwell upon my breath of life; meeting with the True Guru, I am absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥
jan kee Tek har naam Tikieeaa ||
The Name of the Lord is the only Support of His humble servants.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧਰ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur kee dhar laagaa jaavaa gur kirapaa te har dhar laheeaa ||1|| rahaau ||
I shall live under the protection of the True Guru. By Guru's Grace, I shall attain the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਈਆ ॥
eih sareer karam kee dharatee gurmukh math math tat kaddieeaa ||
This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence.
ਲਾਲੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਈਆ ॥੨॥
laal javehar naam pragaasiaa bhaa(n)ddai bhaau pavai tit ieeaa ||2||
The priceless jewel of the Naam becomes manifest, and it pours into their vessels of love. ||2||
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਭਈਆ ॥
dhaasan dhaas dhaas hoi raheeaai jo jan raam bhagat nij bhieeaa ||
Become the slave of the slave of the slave, of that humble being who has become the devotee of the Lord.
ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥
man budh arap dharau gur aagai gur parasaadhee mai akath kathieeaa ||3||
I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru's Grace, I speak the Unspoken. ||3||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥
manmukh maiaa moh viaape ih man tirasanaa jalat tikhieeaa ||
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥
gurmat naam a(n)mirat jal paiaa agan bujhee gur sabadh bujhieeaa ||4||
Following the Guru's Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru's Shabad has put it out. ||4||
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥
eih man naachai satigur aagai anahadh sabadh dhun toor vajieeaa ||
This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody.
