ਤੂ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

too sukhadhaataa laih milai ||

You are the Giver of peace; You merge them into Yourself.

ਏਕਸ ਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

ekas te dhoojaa naahee koi ||

Everything comes from the One and only Lord; there is no other at all.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥

gurmukh boojhai sojhee hoi ||9||

The Gurmukh realizes this, and understands. ||9||

ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹ ਥਿਤਂੀ ਤੈ ਸਤ ਵਾਰ ॥

pa(n)dhreh thita(n)ee tai sat vaar ||

The fifteen lunar days, the seven days of the week,

ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਵਾਰ ਵਾਰ ॥

maahaa rutee aaveh vaar vaar ||

the months, seasons, days and nights, come over and over again;

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

dhinas rain tivai sa(n)saar ||

so the world goes on.

ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥

aavaa gaun keeaa karataar ||

Coming and going were created by the Creator Lord.

ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਕਲ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

nihachal saach rahiaa kal dhaar ||

The True Lord remains steady and stable, by His almighty power.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੧॥

naanak gurmukh boojhai ko sabadh veechaar ||10||1||

O Nanak, how rare is that Gurmukh who understands, and contemplates the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||10||1||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

bilaaval mahalaa teejaa ||

Bilaaval, Third Mehla:

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੇ ॥

aadh purakh aape sirasaT saaje ||

The Primal Lord Himself formed the Universe.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਾਜੇ ॥

jeea ja(n)t maiaa moh paaje ||

The beings and creatures are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

dhoojai bhai parapa(n)ch laage ||

In the love of duality, they are attached to the illusory material world.

ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥

aaveh jaaveh mareh abhaage ||

The unfortunate ones die, and continue to come and go.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

satigur bheTiaai sojhee pai ||

Meeting with the True Guru, understanding is obtained.

ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

parapa(n)ch chookai sach samai ||1||

Then, the illusion of the material world is shattered, and one merges in Truth. ||1||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥

jaa kai masatak likhiaa lekh ||

One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

taa kai man vasiaa prabh ek ||1|| rahaau ||

- the One God abides within his mind. ||1||Pause||

ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥

sirasaT upai aape sabh vekhai ||

He created the Universe, and He Himself beholds all.

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

koi na meTai terai lekhai ||

No one can erase Your record, Lord.

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥

sidh saadhik je ko kahai kahaae ||

If someone calls himself a Siddha or a seeker,

ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

bharame bhoolaa aavai jaae ||

he is deluded by doubt, and will continue coming and going.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

satigur sevai so jan boojhai ||

That humble being alone understands, who serves the True Guru.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥

haumai maare taa dhar soojhai ||2||

Conquering his ego, he finds the Lord's Door. ||2||

ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੂਆ ॥

ekas te sabh dhoojaa hooaa ||

From the One Lord, all others were formed.

ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥

eko varatai avar na beeaa ||

The One Lord is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all.

ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

dhooje te je eko jaanai ||

Renouncing duality, one comes to know the One Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥

gur kai sabadh har dhar neesaanai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one knows the Lord's Door, and His Banner.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥

satigur bheTe taa eko paae ||

Meeting the True Guru, one finds the One Lord.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੩॥

vichahu dhoojaa Thaak rahaae ||3||

Duality is subdued within. ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

jis dhaa saahib ddaaddaa hoi ||

One who belongs to the All-powerful Lord and Master

ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

tis no maar na saakai koi ||

no one can destroy him.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

saahib kee sevak rahai saranaiee ||

The Lord's servant remains under His protection;

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

aape bakhase dhe vaddiaaiee ||

The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness.

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

tis te uoopar naahee koi ||

There is none higher than Him.

ਕਉਣੁ ਡਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥

kaun ddarai ddar kis kaa hoi ||4||

Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear? ||4||

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਰੀਰ ॥

gurmatee saa(n)t vasai sareer ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body.

ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿੑ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਪੀਰ ॥

sabadh cheeni(h) fir lagai na peer ||

Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain.

ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

aavai na jai naa dhukh paae ||

You shall not have to come or go, or suffer in sorrow.

ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

naame raate sahaj samaae ||

Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

naanak gurmukh vekhai hadhoor ||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੫॥

meraa prabh sadh rahiaa bharapoor ||5||

My God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5||

ਇਕਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥

eik sevak ik bharam bhulaae ||

Some are selfless servants, while others wander, deluded by doubt.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

aape kare har aap karaae ||

The Lord Himself does, and causes everything to be done.

ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

eko varatai avar na koi ||

The One Lord is all-pervading; there is no other at all.

ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

man ros keejai je dhoojaa hoi ||

The mortal might complain, if there were any other.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥

satigur seve karanee saaree ||

Serve the True Guru; this is the most excellent action.

ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੬॥

dhar saachai saache veechaaree ||6||

In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be judged true. ||6||

ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥

thitee vaar sabh sabadh suhaae ||

All the lunar days, and the days of the week are beautiful, when one contemplates the Shabad.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

satigur seve taa fal paae ||

If one serves the True Guru, he obtains the fruits of his rewards.

ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

thitee vaar sabh aaveh jaeh ||

The omens and days all come and go.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

gur sabadh nihachal sadhaa sach samaeh ||

But the Word of the Guru's Shabad is eternal and unchanging. Through it, one merges in the True Lord.

ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

thitee vaar taa jaa sach raate ||

The days are auspicious, when one is imbued with Truth.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥੭॥

bin naavai sabh bharameh kaache ||7||

Without the Name, all the false ones wander deluded. ||7||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਬਿਗਤੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

manmukh mareh mar bigatee jaeh ||

The self-willed manmukhs die, and dead, they fall into the most evil state.

ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਹਿ ॥

ek na cheteh dhoojai lobhaeh ||

They do not remember the One Lord; they are deluded by duality.

ਅਚੇਤ ਪਿੰਡੀ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥

achet pi(n)ddee agiaan a(n)dhaar ||

The human body is unconscious, ignorant and blind.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ਪਾਰੁ ॥

bin sabadhai kiau paae paar ||

Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over?

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

aap upaae upaavanahaar ||

The Creator Himself creates.

ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥

aape keeton gur veechaar ||8||

He Himself contemplates the Guru's Word. ||8||

ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥

bahute bhekh kareh bhekhadhaaree ||

The religious fanatics wear all sorts of religious robes.

ਭਵਿ ਭਵਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥

bhav bhav bharameh kaachee saaree ||

They roll around and wander around, like the false dice on the board.

ਐਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥

aaithai sukh na aagai hoi ||

They find no peace, here or hereafter.
