ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirabhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibha(n) gur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤਾ ਸਹਸਾਕਿਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥
koiee paRataa sahasaakirataa koiee paRai puraanaa ||
Some read the Sanskrit scriptures, and some read the Puraanas.
ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
koiee naam japai japamaalee laagai tisai dhiaanaa ||
Some meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and chant it on their malas, focusing on it in meditation.
ਅਬ ਹੀ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
ab hee kab hee kichhoo na jaanaa teraa eko naam pachhaanaa ||1||
I know nothing, now or ever; I recognize only Your One Name, Lord. ||1||
ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਹਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੇ ॥
n jaanaa hare meree kavan gate ||
I do not know, Lord, what my condition shall be.
ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਪਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham moorakh agiaan saran prabh teree kar kirapaa raakhahu meree laaj pate ||1|| rahaau ||
I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Please, save my honor and my self-respect. ||1||Pause||
ਕਬਹੂ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਊਭਿ ਚੜਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥
kabahoo jeeaRaa uoobh chaRat hai kabahoo jai piaale ||
Sometimes, the soul soars high in the heavens, and sometimes it falls to the depths of the nether regions.
ਲੋਭੀ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੨॥
lobhee jeeaRaa thir na rahat hai chaare ku(n)ddaa bhaale ||2||
The greedy soul does not remain stable; it searches in the four directions. ||2||
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਹਿ ਮਾਈ ॥
maran likhai ma(n)ddal meh aae jeevan saajeh maiee ||
With death pre-ordained, the soul comes into the world, gathering the riches of life.
ਏਕਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਆਈ ॥੩॥
ek chale ham dhekheh suaamee bhaeh bala(n)tee aaiee ||3||
I see that some have already gone, O my Lord and Master; the burning fire is coming closer! ||3||
ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
n kisee kaa meet na kisee kaa bhaiee naa kisai baap na maiee ||
No one has any friend, and no one has any brother; no one has any father or mother.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
pranavat naanak je too dheveh a(n)te hoi sakhaiee ||4||1||
Prays Nanak, if You bless me with Your Name, it shall be my help and support in the end. ||4||1||
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Raamkalee, First Mehla:
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ॥
sarab jot teree pasar rahee ||
Your Light is prevailing everywhere.
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਨਰਹਰੀ ॥੧॥
jeh jeh dhekhaa teh naraharee ||1||
Wherever I look, there I see the Lord. ||1||
ਜੀਵਨ ਤਲਬ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jeevan talab nivaar suaamee ||
Please rid me of the desire to live, O my Lord and Master.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਗਾਡਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਉਤਰਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
a(n)dh koop maiaa man gaaddiaa kiau kar utarau paar suaamee ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind is entangled in the deep dark pit of Maya. How can I cross over, O Lord and Master? ||1||Pause||
ਜਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jeh bheetar ghaT bheetar basiaa baahar kaahe naahee ||
He dwells deep within, inside the heart; how can He not be outside as well?
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
tin kee saar kare nit saahib sadhaa chi(n)t man maahee ||2||
Our Lord and Master always takes care of us, and keeps us in His thoughts. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
aape neRai aape dhoor ||
He Himself is near at hand, and He is far away.
ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
aape sarab rahiaa bharapoor ||
He Himself is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
satagur milai a(n)dheraa jai ||
Meeting the True Guru, the darkness is dispelled.
