ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

aaisaa giaan beechaarai koiee ||

How rare are those who contemplate this spiritual wisdom.

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

tis te mukat param gat hoiee ||1|| rahaau ||

Through this, the supreme state of liberation is attained. ||1||Pause||

ਦਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਮਹਿ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਉਸਨ ਸੀਤ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੋਈ ॥

dhin meh rain rain meh dhineear usan seet bidh soiee ||

The night is in the day, and the day is in the night. The same is true of hot and cold.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥

taa kee gat mit avar na jaanai gur bin samajh na hoiee ||2||

No one else knows His state and extent; without the Guru, this is not understood. ||2||

ਪੁਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

purakh meh naar naar meh purakhaa boojhahu braham giaanee ||

The female is in the male, and the male is in the female. Understand this, O God-realized being!

ਧੁਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥

dhun meh dhiaan dhiaan meh jaaniaa gurmukh akath kahaanee ||3||

The meditation is in the music, and knowledge is in meditation. Become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken Speech. ||3||

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਪੰਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈ ॥

man meh jot jot meh manooaa pa(n)ch mile gur bhaiee ||

The Light is in the mind, and the mind is in the Light. The Guru brings the five senses together, like brothers.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਿਨ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥੯॥

naanak tin kai sadh balihaaree jin ek sabadh liv laiee ||4||9||

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine love for the One Word of the Shabad. ||4||9||

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

raamakalee mahalaa pehilaa ||

Raamkalee, First Mehla:

ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

jaa har prabh kirapaa dhaaree ||

When the Lord God showered His Mercy,

ਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰੀ ॥

taa haumai vichahu maaree ||

egotism was eradicated from within me.

ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

so sevak raam piaaree || jo gur sabadhee beechaaree ||1||

That humble servant who contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad, is very dear to the Lord. ||1||

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

so har jan har prabh bhaavai ||

That humble servant of the Lord is pleasing to his Lord God;

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਲਾਜ ਛੋਡਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ahinis bhagat kare dhin raatee laaj chhodd har ke gun gaavai ||1|| rahaau ||

day and night, he performs devotional worship, day and night. Disregarding his own honor, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਧੁਨਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਘੋਰਾ ॥

dhun vaaje anahadh ghoraa ||

The unstruck melody of the sound current resonates and resounds;

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮੋਰਾ ॥

man maaniaa har ras moraa ||

my mind is appeased by the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

gur poorai sach samaiaa ||

Through the Perfect Guru, I am absorbed in Truth.

ਗੁਰੁ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

gur aadh purakh har paiaa ||2||

Through the Guru, I have found the Lord, the Primal Being. ||2||

ਸਭਿ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥

sabh naadh bedh gurbaanee ||

Gurbani is the sound current of the Naad, the Vedas, everything.

ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣੀ ॥

man raataa saarigapaanee ||

My mind is attuned to the Lord of the Universe.

ਤਹ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਤਪ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

teh teerath varat tap saare ||

He is my sacred shrine of pilgrimage, fasting and austere self-discipline.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

gur miliaa har nisataare ||3||

The Lord saves, and carries across, those who meet with the Guru. ||3||

ਜਹ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥

jeh aap giaa bhau bhaagaa ||

One whose self-conceit is gone, sees his fears run away.

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

gur charanee sevak laagaa ||

That servant grasps the Guru's feet.

ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

gur satigur bharam chukaiaa ||

The Guru, the True Guru, has expelled my doubts.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

kahu naanak sabadh milaiaa ||4||10||

Says Nanak, I have merged into the Word of the Shabad. ||4||10||

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

raamakalee mahalaa pehilaa ||

Raamkalee, First Mehla:

ਛਾਦਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਮਾਗਤੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥

chhaadhan bhojan maagat bhaagai ||

He runs around, begging for clothes and food.

ਖੁਧਿਆ ਦੁਸਟ ਜਲੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥

khudhiaa dhusaT jalai dhukh aagai ||

He burns with hunger and corruption, and will suffer in the world hereafter.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਨੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥

gurmat nahee leenee dhuramat pat khoiee ||

He does not follow the Guru's Teachings; through his evil-mindedness, he loses his honor.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥

gurmat bhagat paavai jan koiee ||1||

Only through the Guru's Teachings will such a person become devoted. ||1||

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੈ ॥

jogee jugat sahaj ghar vaasai ||

The way of the Yogi is to dwell in the celestial home of bliss.

ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਏਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ek dhirasaT eko kar dhekhiaa bheekhiaa bhai sabadh tirapataasai ||1|| rahaau ||

He looks impartially, equally upon all. He receives the charity of the Lord's Love, and the Word of the Shabad, and so he is satisfied. ||1||Pause||

ਪੰਚ ਬੈਲ ਗਡੀਆ ਦੇਹ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

pa(n)ch bail gaddeeaa dheh dhaaree ||

The five bulls, the senses, pull the wagon of the body around.

ਰਾਮ ਕਲਾ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਰੀ ॥

raam kalaa nibahai pat saaree ||

By the Lord's power, one's honor is preserved.

ਧਰ ਤੂਟੀ ਗਾਡੋ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰਿ ॥

dhar tooTee gaaddo sir bhaar ||

But when the axle breaks, the wagon falls and crashes.

ਲਕਰੀ ਬਿਖਰਿ ਜਰੀ ਮੰਝ ਭਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

lakaree bikhar jaree ma(n)jh bhaar ||2||

It falls apart, like a pile of logs. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਜੋਗੀ ॥

gur kaa sabadh veechaar jogee ||

Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, Yogi.

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਓਗੀ ॥

dhukh sukh sam karanaa sog biogee ||

Look upon pain and pleasure as one and the same, sorrow and separation.

ਭੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

bhugat naam gur sabadh beechaaree ||

Let your food be contemplative meditation upon the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕੰਧੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

asathir ka(n)dh japai nira(n)kaaree ||3||

Your wall shall be permanent, by meditating on the Formless Lord. ||3||

ਸਹਜ ਜਗੋਟਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਾ ॥

sahaj jagoTaa ba(n)dhan te chhooTaa ||

Wear the loin-cloth of poise, and be free of entanglements.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਲੂਟਾ ॥

kaam karodh gur sabadhee looTaa ||

The Guru's Word shall release you from sexual desire and anger.

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥

man meh mu(n)dhraa har gur saranaa ||

In your mind, let your ear-rings be the Sanctuary of the Guru, the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

naanak raam bhagat jan taranaa ||4||11||

O Nanak, worshipping the Lord in deep devotion, the humble are carried across. ||4||11||
