ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਅ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਸਿੰਚੇ ਮਾਇ ॥
tirateea bivasathaa si(n)che mai ||
In the third stage of life, he gathers the wealth of Maya.
ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੨॥
biradh bhiaa chhodd chalio pachhutai ||2||
And when he grows old, he must leave all this; he departs regretting and repenting. ||2||
ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪਾਈ ਦ੍ਰੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ॥
chira(n)kaal paiee dhrulabh dheh ||
After a very long time, one obtains this precious human body, so difficult to obtain.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਖੇਹ ॥
naam bihoonee hoiee kheh ||
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it is reduced to dust.
ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇ ਬੁਰੀ ॥
pasoo paret mugadh te buree ||
Worse than a beast, a demon or an idiot,
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਸਿਰੀ ॥੩॥
tiseh na boojhai jin eh siree ||3||
is that one who does not understand who created him. ||3||
ਸੁਣਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
sun karataar govi(n)dh gopaal ||
Listen, O Creator Lord, Lord of the Universe, Lord of the World,
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
dheen dhiaal sadhaa kirapaal ||
Merciful to the meek, forever compassionate
ਤੁਮਹਿ ਛਡਾਵਹੁ ਛੁਟਕਹਿ ਬੰਧ ॥
tumeh chhaddaavahu chhuTakeh ba(n)dh ||
If You emancipate the human, then his bonds are broken.
ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗ ਅੰਧ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥
bakhas milaavahu naanak jag a(n)dh ||4||12||23||
O Nanak, the people of world are blind; please, Lord, forgive them, and unite them with Yourself. ||4||12||23||
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
raamakalee mahalaa panjavaa ||
Raamkalee, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਾਈ ਕਾਛਿ ॥
kar sa(n)jog banaiee kaachh ||
Joining the elements together, the robe of the body is fashioned.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਇਆਨਾ ਰਾਚਿ ॥
tis sa(n)g rahio iaanaa raach ||
The ignorant fool is engrossed in it.
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥
pratipaarai nit saar samaarai ||
He cherishes it, and constantly takes care of it.
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
a(n)t kee baar uooTh sidhaarai ||1||
But at the very last moment, he must arise and depart. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
naam binaa sabh jhooTh paraanee ||
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, everything is false, O mortal.
ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
govidh bhajan bin avar sa(n)g raate te sabh maiaa mooTh paraanee ||1|| rahaau ||
Those who do not vibrate and meditate on the Lord of the Universe, but instead are imbued with other things, - all those mortals are plundered by Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ਨ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
teerath nai na utaras mail ||
Bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, filth is not washed off.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
karam dharam sabh haumai fail ||
Religious rituals are all just egotistical displays.
ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰੈ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
lok pachaarai gat nahee hoi ||
By pleasing and appeasing people, no one is saved.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੇ ਚਲਸਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
naam bihoone chalaseh roi ||2||
Without the Naam, they shall depart weeping. ||2||
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਟੂਟਸਿ ਪਟਲ ॥
bin har naam na TooTas paTal ||
Without the Lord's Name, the screen is not torn away.
ਸੋਧੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਗਲ ॥
sodhe saasatr simirat sagal ||
I have studied all the Shaastras and Simritees.
ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਪਾਏ ॥
so naam japai jis aap japaae ||
He alone chants the Naam, whom the Lord Himself inspires to chant.
ਸਗਲ ਫਲਾ ਸੇ ਸੂਖਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
sagal falaa se sookh samaae ||3||
He obtains all fruits and rewards, and merges in peace. ||3||
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
raakhanahaare raakhahu aap ||
O Savior Lord, please save me!
ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
sagal sukhaa prabh tumarai haath ||
All peace and comforts are in Your Hand, God.
ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
jit laaveh tit laageh suaamee ||
Whatever you attach me to, to that I am attached, O my Lord and Master.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥
naanak saahib a(n)tarajaamee ||4||13||24||
O Nanak, the Lord is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||13||24||
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
raamakalee mahalaa panjavaa ||
Raamkalee, Fifth Mehla:
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
jo kichh karai soiee sukh jaanaa ||
Whatever He does makes me happy.
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਮਝੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
man asamajh saadhasa(n)g pateeaanaa ||
The ignorant mind is encouraged, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਠਹਰਾਇਆ ॥
ddolan te chookaa Thaharaiaa ||
Now, it does not waver at all; it has become stable and steady.
ਸਤਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਲੇ ਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sat maeh le sat samaiaa ||1||
Receiving Truth, it is merged in the True Lord. ||1||
ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ॥
dhookh giaa sabh rog giaa ||
Pain is gone, and all illness is gone.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh kee aagiaa man meh maanee mahaa purakh kaa sa(n)g bhiaa ||1|| rahaau ||
I have accepted the Will of God in my mind, associating with the Great Person, the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਸਗਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ॥
sagal pavitr sarab niramalaa ||
All is pure; all is immaculate.
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ॥
jo varataae soiee bhalaa ||
Whatever exists is good.
ਜਹ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
jeh raakhai soiee mukat thaan ||
Wherever He keeps me, that is the place of liberation for me.
ਜੋ ਜਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
jo japaae soiee naam ||2||
Whatever He makes me chant, is His Name. ||2||
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਧਰਹਿ ॥
aThasaTh teerath jeh saadh pag dhareh ||
That is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, where the Holy place their feet,
ਤਹ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੁ ਜਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰਹਿ ॥
teh baiku(n)Th jeh naam uchareh ||
and that is heaven, where the Naam is chanted.
ਸਰਬ ਅਨੰਦ ਜਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sarab ana(n)dh jab dharasan paieeaai ||
All bliss comes, when one obtains the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.
ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
raam gunaa nit nit har gaieeaai ||3||
I sing continuously, continually, the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥
aape ghaT ghaT rahiaa biaap ||
The Lord Himself is pervading in each and every heart.
ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਗਟ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
dhiaal purakh paragaT parataap ||
The glory of the Merciful Lord is radiant and manifest.
ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਨੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਠੇ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
kapaT khulaane bhram naaThe dhoore ||
The shutters are opened, and doubts have run away.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੫॥
naanak kau gur bheTe poore ||4||14||25||
Nanak has met with the Perfect Guru. ||4||14||25||

ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
koT jaap taap bisraam ||
Millions of meditations and austerities rest in him,
ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
ridh budh sidh sur giaan ||
along with wealth, wisdom, miraculous spiritual powers and angelic spiritual insight.
ਅਨਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਭੋਗ ਰਸੈ ॥
anik roop ra(n)g bhog rasai ||
He enjoys the various shows and forms, pleasures and delicacies;
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh naam nimakh ridhai vasai ||1||
the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within the heart of the Gurmukh. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
har ke naam kee vaddiaaiee ||
Such is the glorious greatness of the Name of the Lord.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
keemat kahan na jaiee ||1|| rahaau ||
Its value cannot be described. ||1||Pause||
ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਧੀਰਜ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
soorabeer dheeraj mat pooraa ||
He alone is brave, patient and perfectly wise;
