ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਛੂਅ ਡਸਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
naam sunat jan bichhooa ddasaanaa ||2||
If you hear the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you feel like you have been stung by a scorpion. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਝੂਰੈ ॥
maiaa kaaran sadh hee jhoorai ||
You continually yearn for Maya,
ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
man mukh kabeh na usatat karai ||
and you never chant the Lord's Praises with your mouth.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
nirabhau nira(n)kaar dhaataar ||
The Lord is fearless and formless; He is the Great Giver.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
tis siau preet na karai gavaar ||3||
But you do not love Him, you fool! ||3||
ਸਭ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
sabh saahaa sir saachaa saahu ||
God, the True King, is above the heads of all kings.
ਵੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥
vemuhataaj pooraa paatisaahu ||
He is the independent, perfect Lord King.
ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਗਿਰਹ ॥
moh magan lapaTio bhram gireh ||
People are intoxicated by emotional attachment, entangled in doubt and family life.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੀਐ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੩੨॥
naanak tareeaai teree mihar ||4||21||32||
Nanak: they are saved only by Your Mercy, Lord. ||4||21||32||
ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
raamakalee mahalaa panjavaa ||
Raamkalee, Fifth Mehla:
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਜਪਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
rain dhinas japau har naau ||
Night and day, I chant the Lord's Name.
ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਉ ਥਾਉ ॥
aagai dharageh paavau thaau ||
Hereafter, I shall obtain a seat in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
sadhaa ana(n)dh na hovee sog ||
I am in bliss forever; I have no sorrow.
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥੧॥
kabahoo na biaapai haumai rog ||1||
The disease of ego never afflicts me. ||1||
ਖੋਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
khojahu sa(n)tahu har braham giaanee ||
O Saints of the Lord, seek out those who know God.
ਬਿਸਮਨ ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bisaman bisam bhe bisamaadhaa param gat paaveh har simar paraanee ||1|| rahaau ||
You shall be wonderstruck with wonder at the wonderful Lord; meditate in remembrance on the Lord, O mortal, and obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause||
ਗਨਿ ਮਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
gan min dhekhahu sagal beechaar ||
Calculating, measuring, and thinking in every way,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਤਾਰਿ ॥
naam binaa ko sakai na taar ||
see that without the Naam, no one can be carried across.
ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਵ ਨ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
sagal upaav na chaaleh sa(n)g ||
Of all your efforts, none will go along with you.
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
bhavajal tareeaai prabh kai ra(n)g ||2||
You can cross over the terrifying world-ocean only through the love of God. ||2||
ਦੇਹੀ ਧੋਇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥
dhehee dhoi na utarai mail ||
By merely washing the body, one's filth is not removed.
ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
haumai biaapai dhubidhaa fail ||
Afflicted by egotism, duality only increases.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
har har aaukhadh jo jan khai ||
That humble being who takes the medicine of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
taa kaa rog sagal miT jai ||3||
- all his diseases are eradicated. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
kar kirapaa paarabraham dhiaal ||
Take pity on me, O merciful, Supreme Lord God;
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥
man te kabahu na bisar guopaal ||
let me never forget the Lord of the World from my mind.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਹੋਵਾ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
tere dhaas kee hovaa dhoor ||
Let me be the dust of the feet of Your slaves;
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੩੩॥
naanak kee prabh saradhaa poor ||4||22||33||
O God, please fulfill Nanak's hope. ||4||22||33||

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
teree saran poore gurdhev ||
You are my Protection, O perfect Divine Guru.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
tudh bin dhoojaa naahee koi ||
There is no other than You.
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
too samarath pooran paarabraham ||
You are all-powerful, O perfect Supreme Lord God.
ਸੋ ਧਿਆਏ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥੧॥
so dhiaae pooraa jis karam ||1||
He alone meditates on You, whose karma is perfect. ||1||
ਤਰਣ ਤਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
taran taaran prabh tero naau ||
You Name, God, is the boat to carry us across.
ਏਕਾ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ekaa saran gahee man merai tudh bin dhoojaa naahee Thaau ||1|| rahaau ||
My mind has grasped Your protection alone. Other than You, I have no place of rest at all. ||1||Pause||
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
jap jap jeevaa teraa naau ||
Chanting, meditating on Your Name, I live,
ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਉ ਠਾਉ ॥
aagai dharageh paavau Thaau ||
and hereafter, I will obtain a seat in the Court of the Lord.
ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
dhookh a(n)dheraa man te jai ||
Pain and darkness are gone from my mind;
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਰਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
dhuramat binasai raachai har nai ||2||
my evil-mindedness is dispelled, and I am absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||2||
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal siau laagee preet ||
I have enshrined love for the Lord's lotus feet.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
gur poore kee niramal reet ||
The lifestyle of the Perfect Guru is immaculate and pure.
ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ॥
bhau bhaagaa nirabhau man basai ||
My fear has run away, and the fearless Lord dwells within my mind.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਿਤ ਜਪੈ ॥੩॥
a(n)mirat naam rasanaa nit japai ||3||
My tongue continually chants the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਫਾਹੇ ॥
koT janam ke kaaTe faahe ||
The nooses of millions of incarnations are cut away.
ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਧਨੁ ਲਾਹੇ ॥
paiaa laabh sachaa dhan laahe ||
I have obtained the profit of the true wealth.
ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
toT na aavai akhuT bha(n)ddaar ||
This treasure is inexhaustible; it will never run out.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੩੪॥
naanak bhagat soheh har dhuaar ||4||23||34||
O Nanak, the devotees look beautiful in the Court of the Lord. ||4||23||34||

ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮ ॥
ratan javehar naam ||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a jewel, a ruby.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
sat sa(n)tokh giaan ||
It brings Truth, contentment and spiritual wisdom.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਦਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੋਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਹਵਾਲੈ ਹੋਤਾ ॥੧॥
sookh sahaj dhiaa kaa potaa || har bhagataa havaalai hotaa ||1||
The Lord entrusts the treasures of peace, intuition and kindness to His devotees. ||1||
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ॥
mere raam ko bha(n)ddaar ||
This is the treasure of my Lord.
ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਿ ਕਛੁ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khaat kharach kachh toT na aavai a(n)t nahee har paaraavaar ||1|| rahaau ||
Consuming and expending it, it is never used up. The Lord has no end or limitation. ||1||Pause||
ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕ ਹੀਰਾ ॥
keeratan niramolak heeraa ||
The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is a priceless diamond.
ਆਨੰਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥
aana(n)dh gunee gaheeraa ||
It is the ocean of bliss and virtue.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ॥
anahadh baanee poo(n)jee ||
In the Word of the Guru's Bani is the wealth of the unstruck sound current.
ਸੰਤਨ ਹਥਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਕੂੰਜੀ ॥੨॥
sa(n)tan hath raakhee koo(n)jee ||2||
The Saints hold the key to it in their hands. ||2||
