ਵਿਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਖ ॥
vin tudh hor j ma(n)ganaa sir dhukhaa kai dhukh ||
To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries.
ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ॥
dheh naam sa(n)tokheeaa utarai man kee bhukh ||
Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied.
ਗੁਰਿ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਨੁਖ ॥੨॥
gur van tin hariaa keetiaa naanak kiaa manukh ||2||
The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. O Nanak, is it any wonder that He blesses human beings as well? ||2||

Pauree:
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
so aaisaa dhaataar manahu na veesarai ||
Such is that Great Giver; may I never forget Him from my mind.
ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾ ਸਰੈ ॥
ghaRee na muhat chasaa tis bin naa sarai ||
I cannot survive without Him, for an instant, for a moment, for a second.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੁਕਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
a(n)tar baahar sa(n)g kiaa ko luk karai ||
Inwardly and outwardly, He is with us; how can we hide anything from Him?
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
jis pat rakhai aap so bhavajal tarai ||
One whose honor He Himself has preserved, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
bhagat giaanee tapaa jis kirapaa karai ||
He alone is a devotee, a spiritual teacher, and a disciplined pratictioner of meditation, whom the Lord has so blessed.
ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥
so pooraa paradhaan jis no bal dharai ||
He alone is perfect and renowned as supreme, whom the Lord has blessed with His power.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ॥
jiseh jaraae aap soiee ajar jarai ||
He alone endures the unendurable, whom the Lord inspires to endure it.
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥
tis hee miliaa sach ma(n)tr gur man dharai ||3||
And he alone meets the True Lord, within whose mind the Guru's Mantra is implanted. ||3||
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਰੰਗੜੇ ਆਲਾਪਤ ਸਭ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
dha(n)nu su raag sura(n)gaRe aalaapat sabh tikh jai ||
Blessed are those beautiful Ragas which, when chanted, quench all thirst.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪਦੇ ਨਾਉ ॥
dha(n)nu su ja(n)t suhaavaRe jo gurmukh japadhe naau ||
Blessed are those beautiful people who, as Gurmukh, chant the Name of the Lord.
ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinee ik man ik araadhiaa tin sadh balihaarai jaau ||
I am a sacrifice to those who single-mindedly worship and adore the One Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਛਦੇ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
tin kee dhooR ham baachhadhe karamee palai pai ||
I yearn for the dust of their feet; by His Grace, it is obtained.
ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jo rate ra(n)g govidh kai hau tin balihaarai jaau ||
I am a sacrifice to those who are imbued with love for the Lord of the Universe.
ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥
aakhaa birathaa jeea kee har sajan melahu rai ||
I tell them the state of my soul, and pray that I may be united with the Sovereign Lord King, my Friend.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur poorai melaiaa janam maran dhukh jai ||
The Perfect Guru has united me with Him, and the pains of birth and death have departed.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
jan naanak paiaa agam roop anat na kaahoo jai ||1||
Servant Nanak has found the inaccessible, infinitely beautiful Lord, and he will not go anywhere else. ||1||

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪਲੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
dha(n)nu su velaa ghaRee dha(n)n dhan moorat pal saar ||
Blessed is that time, blessed is that hour, blessed is that second, excellent is that instant;
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੜਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਰੁ ॥
dha(n)nu su dhinas sa(n)jogaRaa jit ddiThaa gur dharasaar ||
blessed is that day, and that opportunity, when I gazed upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
man keeaa ichhaa pooreeaa har paiaa agam apaar ||
The mind's desires are fulfilled, when the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord is obtained.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟਾ ਮੋਹੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
haumai tuTaa mohaRaa ik sach naam aadhaar ||
Egotism and emotional attachment are eradicated, and one leans only on the Support of the True Name.
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇਵ ਹਰਿ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jan naanak lagaa sev har udhariaa sagal sa(n)saar ||2||
O servant Nanak, one who is committed to the Lord's service - the whole world is saved along with him. ||2||

Pauree:
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
sifat salaahan bhagat virale dhiteean ||
How rare are those who are blessed to praise the Lord, in devotional worship.
ਸਉਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਲੀਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
saupe jis bha(n)ddaar fir puchh na leeteean ||
Those who are blessed with the Lord's treasures are not called to give their account again.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ॥
jis no lagaa ra(n)g se ra(n)g ratiaa ||
Those who are imbued with His Love are absorbed in ecstasy.
ਓਨਾ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਇਕਾ ਉਨ ਭਤਿਆ ॥
onaa iko naam adhaar ikaa un bhatiaa ||
They take the Support of the One Name; the One Name is their only food.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਭੋਗਈ ॥
onaa pichhai jag bhu(n)chai bhogiee ||
For their sake, the world eats and enjoys.
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਬੁ ਓਨਾਹਾ ਜੋਗਈ ॥
onaa piaaraa rab onaahaa jogiee ||
Their Beloved Lord belongs to them alone.
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
jis miliaa gur aai tin prabh jaaniaa ||
The Guru comes and meets them; they alone know God.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਜਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
hau balihaaree tin j khasamai bhaaniaa ||4||
I am a sacrifice to those who are pleasing to their Lord and Master. ||4||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai naal mai dhosatee har ikasai naal mai ra(n)g ||
My friendship is with the One Lord alone; I am in love with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
har iko meraa sajano har ikasai naal mai sa(n)g ||
The Lord is my only friend; my companionship is with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai naal mai gosaTe muh mailaa karai na bha(n)g ||
My conversation is with the One Lord alone; He never frowns, or turns His face away.
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੋੜੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
jaanai birathaa jeea kee kadhe na moRai ra(n)g ||
He alone knows the state of my soul; He never ignores my love.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har iko meraa masalatee bha(n)nan ghaRan samarath ||
He is my only counselor, all-powerful to destroy and create.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਿਆ ਜਗ ਹਥੁ ॥
har iko meraa dhaataar hai sir dhaatiaa jag hath ||
The Lord is my only Giver. He places His hand upon the heads of the generous in the world.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har ikasai dhee mai Tek hai jo sir sabhanaa samarath ||
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ॥
satigur sa(n)t milaiaa masatak dhar kai hath ||
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
