ਆਤਮੁ ਜਿਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਗੰਜਤ ਪਾਗਾ ॥
aatam jitaa gurmatee aaga(n)jat paagaa ||
He conquers his soul, following the Guru's Teachings, and attains the Imperishable Lord.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੋ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਗਾ ॥
jiseh dhiaaiaa paarabraham so kal meh taagaa ||
He alone keeps up in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, who meditates on the Supreme Lord God.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨਾਗਾ ॥
saadhoo sa(n)gat niramalaa aThasaTh majanaagaa ||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he is immaculate, as if he has bathed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
jis prabh miliaa aapanaa so purakh sabhaagaa ||
He alone is a man of good fortune, who has met with God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਵਡ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧੭॥
naanak tis balihaaranai jis evadd bhaagaa ||17||
Nanak is a sacrifice to such a one, whose destiny is so great! ||17||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਜਾਂ ਪਿਰੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਾਂ ਧਨ ਬਾਹਰਿ ॥
jaa(n) pir a(n)dhar taa(n) dhan baahar ||
When the Husband Lord is within the heart, then Maya, the bride, goes outside.
ਜਾਂ ਪਿਰੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਤਾਂ ਧਨ ਮਾਹਰਿ ॥
jaa(n) pir baahar taa(n) dhan maahar ||
When one's Husband Lord is outside of oneself, then Maya, the bride, is supreme.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਫੇਰੁ ਫਿਰਾਹਰਿ ॥
bin naavai bahu fer firaahar ||
Without the Name, one wanders all around.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਜਾਹਰਿ ॥
satigur sa(n)g dhikhaiaa jaahar ||
The True Guru shows us that the Lord is with us.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਰਿ ॥੧॥
jan naanak sache sach samaahar ||1||
Servant Nanak merges in the Truest of the True. ||1||

ਆਹਰ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਆਹਰੁ ਇਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
aahar sabh karadhaa firai aahar ik na hoi ||
Making all sorts of efforts, they wander around; but they do not make even one effort.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤੁ ਆਹਰਿ ਜਗੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak jit aahar jag udharai viralaa boojhai koi ||2||
O Nanak, how rare are those who understand the effort which saves the world. ||2||

ਵਡੀ ਹੂ ਵਡਾ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਰਤਬਾ ॥
vaddee hoo vaddaa apaar teraa maratabaa ||
The greatest of the great, infinite is Your dignity.
ਰੰਗ ਪਰੰਗ ਅਨੇਕ ਨ ਜਾਪਨਿੑ ਕਰਤਬਾ ॥
ra(n)g para(n)g anek na jaapani(h) karatabaa ||
Your colors and hues are so numerous; no one can know Your actions.
ਜੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਲਾ ॥
jeeaa a(n)dhar jeeau sabh kichh jaanalaa ||
You are the Soul within all souls; You alone know everything.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਰੁ ਭਲਾ ॥
sabh kichh terai vas teraa ghar bhalaa ||
Everything is under Your control; Your home is beautiful.
ਤੇਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਵਧਾਈ ਤੁਧੁ ਘਰਿ ॥
terai ghar aana(n)dh vadhaiee tudh ghar ||
Your home is filled with bliss, which resonates and resounds throughout Your home.
ਮਾਣੁ ਮਹਤਾ ਤੇਜੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਜਰਿ ॥
maan mahataa tej aapanaa aap jar ||
Your honor, majesty and glory are Yours alone.
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਤ ਕਤਾ ॥
sarab kalaa bharapoor dhisai jat kataa ||
You are overflowing with all powers; wherever we look, there You are.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਬਿਨਵਤਾ ॥੧੮॥
naanak dhaasan dhaas tudh aagai binavataa ||18||
Nanak, the slave of Your slaves, prays to You alone. ||18||

ਛਤੜੇ ਬਾਜਾਰ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਪਾਰੀਏ ॥
chhataRe baajaar sohan vich vapaare'e ||
Your streets are covered with canopies; under them, the traders look beautiful.
ਵਖਰੁ ਹਿਕੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਟੇ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ॥੧॥
vakhar hik apaar naanak khaTe so dhanee ||1||
O Nanak, he alone is truly a banker, who buys the infinite commodity. ||1||

ਕਬੀਰਾ ਹਮਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਹਮ ਕਿਸ ਹੂ ਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
kabeeraa hamaraa ko nahee ham kis hoo ke naeh ||
Kabeer, no one is mine, and I belong to no one.
ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
jin ih rachan rachaiaa tis hee maeh samaeh ||2||
I am absorbed in the One, who created this creation. ||2||

ਸਫਲਿਉ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਫਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ॥
safaliau birakh suhaavaRaa har safal a(n)mritaa ||
The Lord is the most beautiful fruit tree, bearing fruits of Ambrosial Nectar.
ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚੈ ਉਨੑ ਮਿਲਣ ਕਉ ਕਿਉ ਵੰਞੈ ਘਿਤਾ ॥
man lochai un(h) milan kau kiau va(n)n(j)ai ghitaa ||
My mind longs to meet Him; how can I ever find Him?
ਵਰਨਾ ਚਿਹਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਓਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਜਿਤਾ ॥
varanaa chihanaa baaharaa oh agam ajitaa ||
He has no color or form; He is inaccessible and unconquerable.
ਓਹੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਖੋਲੑੈ ਭਿਤਾ ॥
oh piaaraa jeea kaa jo khol(h)ai bhitaa ||
I love Him with all my soul; He opens the door for me.
ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਸਾੜੀਆ ਮੈ ਦਸਿਹੁ ਮਿਤਾ ॥
sevaa karee tusaaReeaa mai dhasih mitaa ||
I shall serve you forever, if you tell me of my Friend.
ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਬਲੇ ਬਲਿ ਕਿਤਾ ॥
kurabaanee va(n)n(j)aa vaaranai bale bal kitaa ||
I am a sacrifice, a dedicated, devoted sacrifice to Him.
ਦਸਨਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਲਾਇ ਚਿਤਾ ॥
dhasan sa(n)t piaariaa sunahu lai chitaa ||
The Beloved Saints tell us, to listen with our consciousness.
ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ॥੧੯॥
jis likhiaa naanak dhaas tis naau a(n)mrit satigur dhitaa ||19||
One who has such pre-ordained destiny, O slave Nanak, is blessed with the Ambrosial Name by the True Guru. ||19||

Shalok, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਬੀਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਤਸਕਰ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਗਾਹਿ ॥
kabeer dharatee saadh kee tasakar baiseh gaeh ||
Kabeer, the earth belongs to the Holy, but the thieves have come and now sit among them.
ਧਰਤੀ ਭਾਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਆਪਈ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਲਾਹੂ ਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
dharatee bhaar na biaapiee un kau laahoo laeh ||1||
The earth does not feel their weight; even they profit. ||1||
ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Fifth Mehla:
ਕਬੀਰ ਚਾਵਲ ਕਾਰਣੇ ਤੁਖ ਕਉ ਮੁਹਲੀ ਲਾਇ ॥
kabeer chaaval kaarane tukh kau muhalee lai ||
Kabeer, for the sake of the rice, the husks are beaten and threshed.
ਸੰਗਿ ਕੁਸੰਗੀ ਬੈਸਤੇ ਤਬ ਪੂਛੇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥
sa(n)g kusa(n)gee baisate tab poochhe dharam rai ||2||
When one sits in the company of evil people, then he will be called to account by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਇਕਾਤੀਆ ॥
aape hee vadd paravaar aap ikaateeaa ||
He Himself has the greatest family; He Himself is all alone.
ਆਪਣੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਤੀਆ ॥
aapanee keemat aap aape hee jaateeaa ||
He alone knows His own worth.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਪੰਨਿਆ ॥
sabh kichh aape aap aap upa(n)niaa ||
He Himself, by Himself, created everything.
ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਰੰਨਿਆ ॥
aapanaa keetaa aap aap vara(n)niaa ||
Only He Himself can describe His own creation.
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਤੂ ਵੁਠਾ ॥
dha(n)nu su teraa thaan jithai too vuThaa ||
Blessed is Your place, where You dwell, Lord.
