ਥਿਰੁ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਵਰੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਾਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੧॥
thir suhaag var agam agochar jan naanak prem saadhaaree jeeau ||4||4||11||
Her marriage is eternal; her Husband is Inaccessible and Incomprehensible. O Servant Nanak, His Love is her only Support. ||4||4||11||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
maajh mahalaa panjavaa ||
Maajh, Fifth Mehla:
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਦਰਸਨ ਚਾਹੇ ॥
khojat khojat dharasan chaahe ||
I have searched and searched, seeking the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਨ ਬਨ ਅਵਗਾਹੇ ॥
bhaat bhaat ban ban avagaahe ||
I travelled through all sorts of woods and forests.
ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
niragun saragun har har meraa koiee hai jeeau aan milaavai jeeau ||1||
My Lord, Har, Har, is both absolute and related, unmanifest and manifest; is there anyone who can come and unite me with Him? ||1||
ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ ਬਿਚਰਤ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
khaT saasat bicharat mukh giaanaa ||
People recite from memory the wisdom of the six schools of philosophy;
ਪੂਜਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
poojaa tilak teerath isanaanaa ||
they perform worship services, wear ceremonial religious marks on their foreheads, and take ritual cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਨਿਵਲੀ ਕਰਮ ਆਸਨ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
nivalee karam aasan chauraaseeh in meh saa(n)t na aavai jeeau ||2||
They perform the inner cleansing practice with water and adopt the eighty-four Yogic postures; but still, they find no peace in any of these. ||2||
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਰਖ ਕੀਏ ਜਪ ਤਾਪਾ ॥
anik barakh ke'ee jap taapaa ||
They chant and meditate, practicing austere self-discipline for years and years;
ਗਵਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਭਰਮਾਤਾ ॥
gavan keeaa dharatee bharamaataa ||
they wander on journeys all over the earth;
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
eik khin hiradhai saa(n)t na aavai jogee bahuR bahuR uTh dhaavai jeeau ||3||
and yet, their hearts are not at peace, even for an instant. The Yogi rises up and goes out, over and over again. ||3||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirapaa moh saadh milaiaa ||
By His Mercy, I have met the Holy Saint.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
man tan seetal dheeraj paiaa ||
My mind and body have been cooled and soothed; I have been blessed with patience and composure.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨॥
prabh abinaasee basiaa ghaT bheetar har ma(n)gal naanak gaavai jeeau ||4||5||12||
The Immortal Lord God has come to dwell within my heart. Nanak sings the songs of joy to the Lord. ||4||5||12||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
paarabraham apara(n)par dhevaa ||
The Supreme Lord God is Infinite and Divine;
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
agam agochar alakh abhevaa ||
He is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, Invisible and Inscrutable.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
dheen dhiaal gopaal gobi(n)dhaa har dhiaavahu gurmukh gaatee jeeau ||1||
Merciful to the meek, Sustainer of the World, Lord of the Universe-meditating on the Lord, the Gurmukhs find salvation. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh madhusoodhan nisataare ||
The Gurmukhs are emancipated by the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਗੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh sa(n)gee kirasan muraare ||
The Lord Krishna becomes the Gurmukh's Companion.
ਦਇਆਲ ਦਮੋਦਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਭਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
dhiaal dhamodhar gurmukh paieeaai horat kitai na bhaatee jeeau ||2||
The Gurmukh finds the Merciful Lord. He is not found any other way. ||2||
ਨਿਰਹਾਰੀ ਕੇਸਵ ਨਿਰਵੈਰਾ ॥
nirahaaree kesav niravairaa ||
He does not need to eat; His Hair is Wondrous and Beautiful; He is free of hate.
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਾ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਪੈਰਾ ॥
koT janaa jaa ke poojeh pairaa ||
Millions of people worship His Feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
gurmukh hiradhai jaa kai har har soiee bhagat ikaatee jeeau ||3||
He alone is a devotee, who becomes Gurmukh, whose heart is filled with the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||
ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
amogh dharasan bea(n)t apaaraa ||
Forever fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; He is Infinite and Incomparable.
ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
vadd samarath sadhaa dhaataaraa ||
He is Awesome and All-powerful; He is forever the Great Giver.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੩॥
gurmukh naam japeeaai tit tareeaai gat naanak viralee jaatee jeeau ||4||6||13||
As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be carried across. O Nanak, rare are those who know this state! ||4||6||13||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
maajh mahalaa panjavaa ||
Maajh, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਹਿਆ ਕਰਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
kahiaa karanaa dhitaa lainaa ||
As You command, I obey; as You give, I receive.
ਗਰੀਬਾ ਅਨਾਥਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
gareebaa anaathaa teraa maanaa ||
You are the Pride of the meek and the poor.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh too(n)hai too(n)hai mere piaare teree kudharat kau bal jaiee jeeau ||1||
You are everything; You are my Beloved. I am a sacrifice to Your Creative Power. ||1||
ਭਾਣੈ ਉਝੜ ਭਾਣੈ ਰਾਹਾ ॥
bhaanai ujhaR bhaanai raahaa ||
By Your Will, we wander in the wilderness; by Your Will, we find the path.
ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵਾਹਾ ॥
bhaanai har gun gurmukh gaavaahaa ||
By Your Will, we become Gurmukh and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਭਾਣੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੂਨੀ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
bhaanai bharam bhavai bahu joonee sabh kichh tisai rajaiee jeeau ||2||
By Your Will, we wander in doubt through countless lifetimes. Everything happens by Your Will. ||2||
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
naa ko moorakh naa ko siaanaa ||
No one is foolish, and no one is clever.
ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
varatai sabh kichh teraa bhaanaa ||
Your Will determines everything;
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
agam agochar bea(n)t athaahaa teree keemat kahan na jaiee jeeau ||3||
You are Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, Infinite and Unfathomable. Your Value cannot be expressed. ||3||
ਖਾਕੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
khaak sa(n)tan kee dheh piaare ||
Please bless me with the dust of the Saints, O my Beloved.
ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥
aai piaa har terai dhuaarai ||
I have come and fallen at Your Door, O Lord.
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਆਘਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੪॥
dharasan pekhat man aaghaavai naanak milan subhaiee jeeau ||4||7||14||
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, my mind is fulfilled. O Nanak, with natural ease, I merge into Him. ||4||7||14||
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:
ਦੁਖੁ ਤਦੇ ਜਾ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
dhukh tadhe jaa visar jaavai ||
They forget the Lord, and they suffer in pain.
ਭੁਖ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
bhukh viaapai bahu bidh dhaavai ||
Afflicted with hunger, they run around in all directions.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
simarat naam sadhaa suhelaa jis dhevai dheen dhiaalaa jeeau ||1||
The Lord, Merciful to the meek, bestows meditation on those blessed souls; this Naam forever provides peace.||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥਾ ॥
satigur meraa vadd samarathaa ||
My True Guru is All-Powerful.
