About

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial and Gurdwara in Mehrauli, near the Qutub Minar, marks the site where the great Sikh warrior Banda Singh Bahadur was tortured to death on June 19, 1716 by order of Mughal Emperor Farrukh Siyar, along with his four-year-old son Ajai Singh and forty Sikh companions. Originally a yogi named Madho Das, he was transformed into a Sikh warrior by Guru Gobind Singh and went on to establish the first Sikh sovereign state. The modest marble structure includes a 50-meter memorial pillar and draws over 30,000 devotees during its annual Vaisakhi celebrations.
