About
Gurdwara Banda Singh Bahadur in Delhi honors the memory of the legendary Sikh warrior who was transformed from a hermit named Madho Das into a fearless military commander by Guru Gobind Singh. Banda Singh Bahadur went on to establish the first Sikh sovereign state in Punjab, defeating the Mughal governor Wazir Khan of Sirhind who had ordered the execution of Guru Gobind Singh's younger sons. He was captured after an eight-month siege at Gurdas Nangal in 1715 and was publicly tortured and executed in Delhi by Mughal Emperor Farrukh Siyar on June 19, 1716.
