About
Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib takes its name from the Bhatt poets, a group of eleven bards whose compositions praising the Sikh Gurus are included in the Guru Granth Sahib. The Bhatts — including Kal Sahar, Bal, Kirat, Gayand, and others — composed devotional verses (swaiyye) honoring the first five Gurus, and their inclusion in the sacred scripture by Guru Arjan Dev affirmed the universal nature of Sikh teachings. This Gurdwara in Delhi preserves the legacy of these poet-devotees and serves as a center for kirtan, the devotional singing tradition that lies at the heart of Sikh worship.
