About

Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla Sahib is one of the oldest Sikh shrines in Delhi, named after Abdulla, an Iranian Sufi mystic nicknamed Majnu (lost in love), who ferried people across the Yamuna for free and met Guru Nanak Dev on this hillock in July 1505. During the Guru's stay, prominent Sufi saints of Delhi — including the sajjada nashin of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia's shrine — came to hold spiritual discussions with him. The Gurdwara was built by Sikh General Baghel Singh in 1783 and later embellished by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who also endowed it with a jagir (land grant).
