Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib stands at the sacred site where Guru Arjan Dev and his scribe Bhai Gurdas spent over a year in semi-seclusion compiling the Adi Granth, the first edition of the Sikh scripture, completing it in 1604. The Guru chose this quiet spot about one kilometer from the growing bustle around Harmandir Sahib and had a small tank dug nearby, naming it Ramsar after his father Guru Ram Das. It was also here that Guru Arjan Dev composed the Sukhmani Sahib (Psalm of Peace), making this one of the most spiritually significant sites in Sikh history.
