Gurudwara Santokhsar Sahib

Gurdwara Santokhsar Sahib marks the site of the first sarovar whose excavation began at Amritsar in 1564, when Bhai Jetha (later Guru Ram Das) was sent by Guru Amar Das to find a suitable location. Named after the yogi Santakha who had been meditating at the site awaiting a Guru's blessing, the tank was left incomplete until Guru Arjan Dev finished the excavation between 1587 and 1589 under the supervision of Baba Buddha. It is one of the five sacred sarovars of Amritsar and was restored through kar-seva in 1919 after falling into neglect during the turbulent 18th century.
