Gurudwara Shri Bhangani Sahib marks the historic battlefield where Guru Gobind Singh won his first military victory in September 1688. The Battle of Bhangani was fought against a coalition of hill rajas led by Raja Bhim Chand of Kahlur, who had been angered by the Guru's refusal to surrender a trained elephant. Despite being outnumbered, the Guru's forces, bolstered by the Sufi saint Pir Buddhu Shah and his 700 followers, decisively defeated the allied hill armies in a fierce daylong battle near Paonta Sahib.
