Gurdwara Guru Ka Mahal marks the residence built by Guru Ram Das in 1573 when he founded the city of Amritsar, making it one of the oldest historical sites in the city. This humble dwelling grew into a place of great significance as Guru Arjan Dev was married and anointed as Guru here, Guru Hargobind was also married here, and it served as the birthplace of both Baba Atal Rai and Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru. The three-story structure houses the Guru Granth Sahib on its top floor and was rebuilt and modernized in 1977.
